I also thought Steigs reason for not cleaning off the picture in the basement was a bit shit. If you are a professional cleaner of crime scenes surely your a bit more diligent, seemed like it was deliberately left or faked.

Indianashopgirl · 09/12/2014 16:00

I've said before that the drawing could easily be a copy. The scarf could have been planted later & the video could have been another child as the pic was blurry. None of it is concrete evidence. However, I'm sort of changing my mind on all that now.

I think Mark had some involvement - as in he may have been investigating in France. He mentioned giving up his career for Emily.
A big clue will be we find out what is was Ziane did in Morocco. Malik said that it dawned on him when he saw Ziane on TV. Why ? Did he recognise him or does he look like someone else? Malik said he would tell Baptiste 'who you are'(I think). Was he a criminal who is now in the Police? He also says his career is over. This is when he's in the car with Malik. Why would he feel that then ... Unless it's because Baptiste knows he's been supplying evidence. There must be a link between Charmaintaines & this case. Malik sees it as 'a calling ' almost to solve this case.

When Sieg is sitting in the car watching Ziane retrieve the evidence 'Return to Sender ' is playing on the radio. Is this another little 'placement?'

I think water will feature heavily at the end.
That's it for now. All my 'observations' and view points will undoubtedly be changing in the next 6 hours!

Bit confused as to how long they actually stayed in France after Olly disappeared.

EauLittleRougeofBethlehem · 09/12/2014 17:20

I think it was just over two weeks or thereabouts. Not for much longer than their holiday would have been anyway.

In the last episode, Sylvie hands Tony the big ears drawing, saying she found it in his laundry. Wonder if she took it for some reason?

spaghettiarms1 · 09/12/2014 17:25

SomethingFunny I am liking your Wicker Man theory of the whole town being involved, now that would be creepy (and mean that all of us lot are right because EVERYONE dunnit)

BeyondTheTreelights · 09/12/2014 17:48

Haha, i was thinking it was like the wicker man earlier Grin

SomethingFunny · 09/12/2014 18:12

Thanks! Going off to read about the Wicker man now as I have never heard of it!

SomethingFunny · 09/12/2014 18:16

Have read about it... Oh!!!

forago · 09/12/2014 18:23

Yes, that popped into my head too.

All this analysis is turning us loopy Grin

EauLittleRougeofBethlehem · 09/12/2014 18:46

SomethingFunny, you've never seen The Wicker Man? It's one of my favourite films. Make sure you watch the original first before the Nic Cage remake. The Cage remake is brilliant, but in an unintentionally hilarious sort of way. The original is very creepy.

You must all watch tonight, DH or no DH. Araminta is right, we are all needed to add theories. Not that I'm taking this too seriously or anything....

Heaven forfend Eau

Parlour game 'tis all. Cheery, and light-hearted and wholesome Smile

Sheitgeist · 09/12/2014 18:48

Haha, thank you Araminta I feel totally vindicated now. I will be curled up alone with slanket, a small sherry and a packet of crisps, DCs sleeping upstairs.

Look forward to meeting up with the MNPDers after the event to consider new evidence and trash our earlier theories.

StrychnineStew · 09/12/2014 18:50

And in a light-hearted vein, I've been wondering about how many clean ups that cellar must have had to be forensically spotless.

EauLittleRougeofBethlehem · 09/12/2014 18:54

I would like to know what cleaning products and techniques they use because my house is nowhere near forensically spotless. Maybe series 2 will be Karl Sieg's Cleaning Tips.

I do not think Tony or Baptiste are involved as why would both spend so much time looking for answers, surely they would like it all to be kept quiet, wouldn't they?
The thing in the gutter I thought may be a name badge, only because I remember Vincent wearing one in present day at the fast food place he worked. But how do they actually know that something found in that drain was directly related to the missing boy, I cannot now remember where the drain is/was, can someone remind me??
I'm sure Ziane was involved in a murder in Morocco, how Malik would recognise him I'm not sure. His Father was investigating this murder and could not solve it.
I think Araminta's theory at the beginning of this thread is the best, is Ollie honestly spelt Olleh in this series?? Poor boy.

StrychnineStew · 09/12/2014 18:59

It just seems a bit too convenient that not only did Ollie draw a picture whilst in the cellar but it then wasn't cleaned up.

They are fantastic writers but their weaker point is plot drivers. The postcard sending shop owner, the drawing on the wall, something else I forget now Blush are all structural devices needed to move the investigation on. They seem jarring but I think they are just clumsily conceived by the writers. But I forgive them because the writing is otherwise fantastic (pace, character, suspense).

It just keeps sending us all off down blind alleys, I think .

Jumping in because I have loved this thread & all your theories as much as I love the series!

I am sure that the boy in the window is Ollie, I haven't zoomed in or anything but I didn't get the impression he was smiling & waving for fun, I thought he looked like he was desperately shouting help & trying to attract attention. For that reason I can't believe that he has been taken by someone he knows. I also feel sure that a parent would know their own child. Tony & even Baptiste had no doubt that the boy on film was Ollie.

Mark is a wrong 'un but I can't figure out how. I just don't think that adoption is going to feature. It is possible that James was the intended target. Cannot wait to find out the truth!

tuckingfits · 09/12/2014 19:14

As for whether Ollie is still alive, I can't imagine there being a happy outcome to this even if he is still alive. What has he gone through in the 8 intervening years if he is still alive?

EauLittleRougeofBethlehem · 09/12/2014 19:38

I think Olleh must be dead but that they will find out who, how and when.

I am going to miss this thread when it ends.... good thing Broadchurch season 2 starts in January.
