So many loose ends to tie up. I think Monique was just Tony getting carried away in the city of love (such a highly unlikely scenario, but can forgive because everything else is so brilliant - though pics on her wall seemed highly significant at the time). The whole Ian/Molly/strange wife seems a very long time ago now. Vincent must still be significant or why keep showing him? Can't work out why Malik kept the coin. I don't find him realistic at all - he seems pretty well off for a journalist who seems to have made his life's work investigating two unsolved crimes and not yet having published books on either of them. I think if he was a hack of the phone hacking variety he would have run that story for whichever paper he was working for anyway and I don't think he would have deleted the message. He would surely have handed the coin in and then had an exclusive on it. I'm still thinking the boy needs a father thing is significant, but if Greg was Olleh's father wouldn't Emily have mentioned that in a desperate attempt to leave no stone unturned - unless she agreed with abduction thinking Olleh would be better off with him than with his violent drunk, father - (going back to my original theory here) but I have to say seeing Emily this week I can't think of her as anything other than a woman who has lost her child. I'm guessing we will find that the puzzle is unsolvable until we get the final pieces last week which will leave us all feeling a bit Hmm. I'd like to think all the clues are already there and we just need to put them together. MNPD Grin

SomethingFunny · 10/12/2014 13:10

I think Alain and Silvie are definitely involved. They are the only ones who knew Tony and Ollie were going swimming and the only ones who could get hold of the scarf. The scarf (and the fact he wasn't wearing it when abducted) has got to be a massively significant clue in this (or there was a massive screw up!). But I also think Silvie is trying to get the truth to come out now, hence the facebook picture of the scarf sent to Tony in 2014.

There therefore must be someone else involved who does not want the truth to come out now. Someone who had Ziane killed before he could speak. What does Ziane know they didn't want coming out? Only about what he picked up from the drain- which was either the medal or was swapped by Malik or Mark.

The medal, although the same as the ones Alain had and that Silvie showed Tony, isn't necessarily his. Is this the scriptwriters trying to throw us off scent - Alain can't have been the only one in the AA...

Vincent is definitely significant. He knows something vital although he might not know he does. I don't think he was actually involved or knows what happened to Ollie though. Ian providing his alibi might be as simple as Vincent didn't have one and if he is interrogated too much, Ian's behaviour might come to light. I wonder where Vincent actually was that night. Was he at the pool after all? Maybe with Ian.

The Romanian gang have to be connected somehow. I don't want them to be though as they are boring.

My nice little theory is that Alain and Silvie abducted Ollie for their childless daughter Monique, which is why George cannot see much of her anymore. Series 2 is the agonising decision about whether Ollie stays with his new Mum and Dad or returns to the divorced Emily and Tony and whether the whole Ian killing might come out.

Cocolate · 10/12/2014 13:12

So, if the medal had the number 12 on it (though that'd take pretty good eyesight to notice) and that's how many years Alain would have been sober in 2006 (see post a page back) and Sylvie told Alain he'd better get off to his meeting (the evening Olleh went missing) then Alain presumably got the medal at his meeting that evening and dropped it on his way home picking up Olleh/some blood on the way back. Hmmmmm....(still no wiser)

LillianGish · 10/12/2014 13:12

Did anyone notice ifMolly was on the poster of missing children at athe police station?

I like this in fact I only want a happy outcome next Tuesday.

limitedperiodonly · 10/12/2014 13:14

Maybe he thinks he can say that Tony murdered Ian or was involved in his disappearance or Ollie's because that's moreorless what the Express did to Kate and Gerry McCann. They got quite a lot in libel damages for those false allegations.

And the Express keeps being popping up - which is great publicity, because hardly anyone realises it's still going Grin

limitedperiodonly · 10/12/2014 13:16

Did anyone notice if Molly was on the poster of missing children at athe police station?

I didn't think to look for her name. I was trying to look at the dates. There seemed to be some disappearances within a year or two either side, but I didn't get a good enough look.

I'm pretty sure there was at least one that was much earlier too.

SomethingFunny · 10/12/2014 13:21

I looked for Molly but didn't see her.

SomethingFunny · 10/12/2014 13:24

I feel the need to get a massive piece of paper ( as I don't have a big glass screen and I don't think DH would want me to use the window) and write down all the characters, the evidence against them and lines connecting them. I am sure it would show something significant.

But I have to keep spending my time on Christmas stuff instead!

SomethingFunny · 10/12/2014 13:25

Oh and BTW- I would love a webchat with the brothers! I have a lot of questions and praise for them!

EauLittleRougeofBethlehem · 10/12/2014 13:28

Tada! You can't see the dates but the surnames are visible. Can't see any I recognise though.

Ahh yes, after next week I am sure we will still have hundreds of unanswered questions so a webchat for the writers to explain it all would be fab!

On another note I was wikiing organised crime gangs which are rife in France apparently! So I vote for Ollie having been mixed up in it. Eg could have seen something at the garage?

Anyway I am extra convinced that Emily and Tony are just distraught parents. It was so sad to see their family crumble like that - I thought last night's episode was great - showed everyone's human side.

limitedperiodonly · 10/12/2014 13:39

I know mewkins. I was so sad when Malik deleted Emily's message and when Tony checked his phone to see if she'd called.

They might not have made it but that was their last chance gone Sad

rumbelina · 10/12/2014 13:41

I know it was really sad but I did love the phone hacking twist, great stuff.

Redpriestandmozart · 10/12/2014 13:42

Having lurked in all the threads on this, I have my theory.

It was Rev Green in the conservatory with the candlestick!

I think that Eden is the nucleus in all of this. The broken TV in the room is used to video the abuse, run by the Mayor, Ian & Alain. Think Elm House type of place, Silvie and Alain are hugely involved. It is a grotty hotel even by 2006 standards, the doors are filthy, rooms are very outdated. It's where George met his niece, he abused her and she ran away. She is the artist that Tony slept with. They were given this room with Ollie so they could watch him as a potential target.

Vincent did the filming, which is why he said he didn't act on his lusts, by doing this he has full information on all the abusers but Ian kept him in check by threatening his mother.

I am really bad at this sort of thing so probably totally wrong, but so loving these threads :)

rumbelina · 10/12/2014 13:46

I wondered if Ziane being killed was just because he was a rat.

Nothing to do with anyone covering anything up, just a prisoner overhearing that he was going to tell on someone, telling the other prisoners and them deciding this wasn't on.

mewkins · 10/12/2014 13:46

Good theory...but didn't George used to meet his neice at the other hotel...the one that closed down? Also I think that a hidden camera is a bit beyond the technical capabilities of Eden... or maybe that's just how it looks! Agh I have no idea.

mewkins · 10/12/2014 13:48

Yes rumbelina, I am surprised that he hadn't been hurt earlier considering he was an ex copper! Maybe the visit from Baptiste was the thing that tipped the other inmates off that he used to be a police officer.

Indianashopgirl · 10/12/2014 13:58

The guard who was friends with Ian (who was friends with Georges) was the one who shouted to Ziane that he had a visitor. I think they would all know he was a policeman from Day One.

BeyondTheTreelights · 10/12/2014 14:02

Ians wife sais awhile back about "molly and the boy" so i think that suggests vincent was a witness in that rather than sex changed molly! Molly is dead as implied by ian (i did check surnames on the missing poster, dont recall seeing a garrett)

I think monique is the daughter of sylvie and alain, niece of the mayor, and was abused as a child, left to find work, explains the drawings and her 'connection' to tony. I reckon the next episode will feature them meeting at eden, explaining how they knew each other when they met in paris.

I think alain, the mayor and ian are all in cahoots, and that the belgian gang are in child trafficking and the distribution of videos of child abuse. Which is how whoever snatched him (guessing alain, though maybe he gave his brother a medal too...?) knew that the belgian gang would be good at hiding it. Possibly snatched in payment for tapes, or maybe even as a bribe? Or they could just be the local division of a country wide 'thing' employing the belgian gang to do the disposal.

Vincent knows details on the gang through his connections. He 'only watches' but must be getting what he watches from somewhere.

Vistaverde · 10/12/2014 14:14

Just been looking at the "evidence trail" on the BBC website. Am I right in thinking that Amede from the Caid de Cite is the prisoner who overheard the conversation in prison?

www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/articles/5XHNldQJ6QYlSVnpqLb67S9/who-are-the-caid-de-cite.

Nancy66 · 10/12/2014 14:16

they've got a fuck of a lot of loose ends to tie together in 56 minutes!

rumbelina · 10/12/2014 14:18

I just put episode 3 on my headphones at work and when Malik is visiting Ziane in prison he mentions 'when you were in solitary for your own protection' so yes I reckon the other prisoners have probably had it in for him for some time and found a good excuse (not that one is needed) to get him.

Didn't notice the guard - well spotted!

I agree with pretty much all of what BeyondTheTreelights says

MySweetPrince · 10/12/2014 14:21

I think Sylvie is the key. She is involved in some way - either she suspected Alain and covered up for him but now that he is gone feels that she can come clean, or her BIL (the Mayor) had some hold over them....maybe they were being paid for the rooms in the hotel to be used by a paedophile gang. She has been feeding Tony clues for a while to get him back to finding out what happened to Ollie. It was her photo that she posted on facebook for Tony to see that had the boy in the background wearing Ollie's scarf - she must have known that Tony would spot it, and that led him to the couple who told him of the charity shop, which led him to the house and the drawing in the basement. She later shows him Alains sobriety medal - so when Tony sees the one handed in by Mark in yesterdays episode he immediately recocnizes it.

limitedperiodonly · 10/12/2014 14:24

It is a grotty hotel

It's the kind of place I've been lured into so many times in France. Pretty on the outside but when you get into the room your heart sinks and you don't want to put your luggage down, let alone get in the bed.

What got me was the large sofa in the lounge of the hotel Emily and Mark were staying in when she couldn't face the memories - and the opulence Wink - of the Eden.

The colour - shades de merde - and pattern was so provincial French-hotel. From that point of view alone it's really well observed.
