Not sure if this has been mentioned but just saw on Twitter the coin had 12 on it which would be the number if years Alain had been sober for in 2006.

mewkins · 10/12/2014 11:08

Is mark going to shop Tony in??? Also... What's the significance of malik saying he is not a bad person he has just done some bad things...

funambulist · 10/12/2014 11:08

I have an awful feeling that when and if we see an re-run of the evening of Ollie's disappearance we'll see Tony go searching in one direction whilst Ollie goes off in another.

funambulist · 10/12/2014 11:14

Maybe the significance of what Malik says is that it could apply to so many of the characters. They still believe that they are good people despite:

Tony: assault, murder
Emily: blaming Tony for Ollie's disappearance
Mark: acting unprofessionally in exploiting his relationship as liaison officer to get close to Emily
Alain: alcoholism
Georges: corruption
Ziane: murder
Ian: paedophilia
Baptiste: shopping his daughter to the police for drugs

Maybe the writers are saying to us that none of the characters are wholly good or bad.

OnlyLovers · 10/12/2014 11:31

Sylvie showed Tony Alain's very first sobriety medal from 20 years ago, which she keeps because she was so proud of his first year sober. It's in response to Tony saying it's 'ridiculous' for him to feel so attached to Ollie's drawing.

The medal from the evidence envelope need not be that one; it could be a more recent one. But I don't know if Alain is now dead. In 2006 and 2009, he seems to spend a lot of time hanging about the hotel looking shifty and coughing/going off for a smoke when someone says something significant.

I'm convinced Mark is a bad un. If he ISN'T, and the actor thinks he's playing him as a good guy, it's not a very good performance! Grin Maybe, as others have suggested, he swapped/planted the medal? I don't know why, though.

I vaguely suspect Baptiste; why is he so invested in the case? And surely his addict daughter will turn out to have been significant?

I also thought Vincent's doctor was a rather funny fish. Is she involved in something somehow? And why are we still seeing so much of him? He must either be involved, or he is there as an example of a somewhat sympathetic paedophile who goes against the popular image – not someone who has a twisted enjoyment of what they do, but someone who is 'wired' that way and is tormented by their feelings.

I too hope it's not as inconclusive as Amber!

Wellthatsit · 10/12/2014 11:32

Ok, how about this?

Ollie wandered off to the woods (Tony thinks he only lost track for a second but actually it was longer), witnessed something that included Alain and it Vincent. When they realise he has seen them, they try to grab him, he runs (remember he is quite a bold kid in general so wouldn't have frozen ). Maybe he get scratches by a tree (hence the blood) but they grab him and sling him in a car, dropping the medallion in the process. This is when blood gets on it. (Or one of them is hurt in the chase too and so us bleeding)

They take Ollie to the house.

After that, ??????

Blood at the house, ?????

SolomanDaisy · 10/12/2014 11:37

Ollie can't have been very seriously injured at the scene or he couldn't have been seen at the window of the house. I think he witnessed something with the caid de cites and I think Vincent might have seen it too. With Ian paying for his alibi he assumes it was paedophile activity, but it was actually unrelated crime. The gang took Ollie to the house and he was accidentally killed there. Perhaps Alain has been in the pay of the Caid de cites for something.

I think that's the nicest possible ending for Tony and Emily - a quick accidental death, rather than abducted by paedophiles.

Wellthatsit · 10/12/2014 11:39

I don't think Mark has swapped anything. Or that he is bad. Only that he is a bit if a duck. Screens Emily's calla. Us a bit manipulative and selfish in his relationship with Emily.

Vincent is involved somehow but it will be a small piece of the jigsaw.

Vincents doctor doesnt like Vincent or what he is, so is just cold yet professional.

Wellthatsit · 10/12/2014 11:40

Duck, not duck

Wellthatsit · 10/12/2014 11:40

I mean dick!

Wellthatsit · 10/12/2014 11:41

Yes to what Soloman says.

Flibbertyjibbet · 10/12/2014 11:42

I just loved the scene after tony said he was going to confess, when julien was so excited about ziane agreeing to talk.
He knew then they had enough to silence malik.
Mark knew all along that Emily wasnt in love with him. But he loves her so much he will help tony out cos helping tony is now also helping Emily.

Flibbertyjibbet · 10/12/2014 11:45

Or mark has found some kind of peace in letting Emily go, after years of trying to isolate her from tony and his endless searching.

Bakeoffcakes · 10/12/2014 11:46

Roll on next Tuesday! It had better be good.

AugustaGloop · 10/12/2014 12:23

I think it will be close to what Solomon described.
Possibly Vincent attempts to abduct him and he escapes and witnesses something Caid related so they have to get rid of him.
I cant quite figure out how Alain/Sylvie fits in but think they must do because of the coin. Also cant quite figure out the scarf.
Think Tony might end up confessing anyway, or alternatively we see a glimpse of a future with Monique.
Think we will learn more about connection between Vincent and Ian. Think he is step son and knows what happened to Molly and was probably abused himself.
Not sure all loose ends will be tied up

3littlerabbits · 10/12/2014 12:38

Who is Monique?!

Vistaverde · 10/12/2014 12:39

I think Solomon's suggestion is the most likely.

I don't trust Mark either but I am not sure how he would have been able to get hold of the coin, or know the significance of it to be able to swap it for something else.

I also think that Malik doesn't know what happened to Ollie. I think he has just put 2 and 2 together and made 5. Partly, because of the phone hacking and also I suspect that Vincent has told him about Ian paying for his alibi.

EauLittleRougeofBethlehem · 10/12/2014 12:40

Monique was the artist in Paris who Tony slept with.

OP posts:
mewkins · 10/12/2014 12:47

I don't think vincent abducted him. He knows something that will help the investigation but he surely didn't do it. He was genuinely perplexed as to why ian paid for his alibi and says very convincingly that he didn't do it so he didn't need to have that alibi. Ian seems to know that he didn't do it as well. Vincent comes across to me as a rather pathetic and weak character who has also been used by those around him. Perhaps his turmoil is knowing that he could have helped/given info but is just so desperate to get away from trouble.

mewkins · 10/12/2014 12:49

Ps. Surely if mark swapped some evidence he would have chosen to swap it for something either more obvious or totally random. Remember, only Tony was able to make the link with the sobriety coin and tbh it was pretty coincidental that he had had that conversation with sylvie at all.

3littlerabbits · 10/12/2014 12:49

Oh yes I remember her now. As if Nesbitt would have had a chance with her in real life!

rumbelina · 10/12/2014 12:54

Monique is probably Georges' niece - wasn't there something about she had to move away to get work?

That could mean she is Alain and Sylvie's daughter and if there IS something bad in the house of Eden then that could explain her disturbing child drawings in her flat.

Just a thought...though I could also go for the unrelated-crime-witnessing scenario.

I just think the medal has got to mean something after everything that's happened to get hold of it.

SomethingFunny · 10/12/2014 12:54

Funbulist, again I completely agree with you. ALL the characters (like real life people) aren't completely good or completely bad. They are just people who sometimes do good things and sometimes bad.

Which is why finding the real baddie is so hard.

Racks brain to think of who's bad side hasn't been shown yet... Silvie?!

BOFster · 10/12/2014 12:57

Monique will turn out to be Molly, I think. She will have some evidence about Ian and play a part in the dénouement.

BOFster · 10/12/2014 13:04

I'm just thinking what a rubbish journo Maliki is: he's all smug with the "I KNOW what happened to Olleh" on the basis of entirely circumstantial evidence. I don't think he's got enough to protect himself from libel charges, much less get it to stand up in court.
