I think maybe Alain witnessed something but is keeping quiet because instead of being at his meeting, he was actually sitting in the woods with a bottle of gin and doesn't want Sylvie to know about it. So he has no alibi.

OR, he was driving home from the meeting drunk and accidentally ran Olleh over, then hid everything so nobody found out. But then there would probably be blood on the road.

Maybe Baptiste has got something up his sleeve and will reveal all before Tony gets the chance to confess.

I read in the newspaper that they have filmed different endings. They will choose based on audience reaction to the storyline. To be honest I think it's a great series because of the acting and production but the lack of progress in the storyline is disappointing.
Last night's episode was great particularly the scene with Emily and Tony in the square. Brilliant acting.

SolomanDaisy · 10/12/2014 10:04

The thing I'm puzzled about is the blood on the coin. Surely if there had been enough blood around the scene to cover the medallion, there would have been blood on the ground, which the forensic team would have found? Unless it had been dropped by someone after they had been in the house where Ollie was taken. But then it would be odd for them to return to the scene and less likely they would drop a coin if they weren't involved in a struggle.

Quadrophonic · 10/12/2014 10:05

The broken telly - could it be that the TV is a CCTV type TV or linked to a camera etc - tha room could be being used by the paedophiles? I think the hotel was full when they originally checked in - that room may be one that they don't usually place guests in?

EauLittleRougeofBethlehem · 10/12/2014 10:07

Yes, there were quite a few theories about the TV containing a hidden camera, I think in thread 2. But a couple of people thought that Tony would have recognised the room when he saw the tape. I don't think it would have been the room he was looking at though :(

TheBigBumTheory · 10/12/2014 10:13

I wondered if he saw something at the hotel reception which had been on the abuse tapes. It rang a bell but he couldn't quite think what was bothering him.

I still think Sylvie knows Ollie is dead, she talked about him in the past tense, 'your boy was always in my prayers' and she said 'you'll always have a home here', like she knows he'll never be found.

BeyondTheTreelights · 10/12/2014 10:24

Btw eau, did you notice emily yesterday, expaining why she wanted to divorce tony to mark "when you feel like you cant breathe, like youre drowning, its time to get out" Wink

I wonder if the tv isnt as significant as we think, its just to show how negatively their business has been affected by it, that they cant afford to replace it? I dont believe that, i do think its significant Grin

Re the blood on the coin, mark did ask malik to give him the forensic analysis he had paid for too - malik did (pay someone too) analyse the blood

funambulist · 10/12/2014 10:24

Yes, I'm worried about Georges taking steps to make sure that Baptiste stops investigating.

I rewatched Tony's pause at the hotel in 2009 to see if there were any clues as to why. I can't discern any. He and Sylvie have a conversation in which Sylvie says that it is good news that the missing boy (Alex) has been found. Tony says that he is still going to stay around. He's going to get the old police files. He thinks he has a couple of leads. He wants to stay in his old room. Sylvie suggests that the room will just be a reminder. Tony says he wants to be reminded. Sylvie says "Yes, of course." She gives Tony the key. He goes out of the lobby. Pauses as though something has just occurred to him and then carries on.

It's driving me mad wondering what it is. I'm sure it's significant. Has anyone got any theories?

I wondered whether it was that the fact that the child had been found would not have been on the news yet indicating a link between Sylvie and the police? But I suspect that news like that would spread very quickly so I don't think that's it.

PeppermintPasty · 10/12/2014 10:25

I did wonder about Baptiste being put with Tony to essentially keep control of him? I wonder if he will be revealed to be involved somehow. How did his daughter get to be in such a bad state? Was she abused as a child too? Or maybe he is a goody, and is fighting it all because he knows his daughter was abused by the paedophile gang years ago?

I just worry Baptiste is going to be revealed as a rotter Sad

BeyondTheTreelights · 10/12/2014 10:25

Bigbum, i did think it was weird that she didnt say "you'll have a home here as long as you need it "

Pinkje · 10/12/2014 10:26

I think there's significance in Mark's son James being a good swimmer. Did Emily look at other pictures then? I like the theory that the abductor took the wrong (swimming) boy.

Could Malik be related to the murdered wife of Charmartin?

BeyondTheTreelights · 10/12/2014 10:29

Blood on the medallion could be something as convoluted (considering the rest of the programme...) as the suspect had a nosebleed, put the hanky he mopped up with in his pocket along with the coin Grin

Maybe ollie bit him, he put his hand in his pocket to get out a tissue and knocked the coin out with his bloody hand?

Celticlass2 · 10/12/2014 10:29

Can't wait for next week. I hope it's not a crap ending!

BeyondTheTreelights · 10/12/2014 10:30

Oh yeah, a swimmer! More water! Grin

BeyondTheTreelights · 10/12/2014 10:31

There was also a pool behind emily and mark in the other hotel...

EauLittleRougeofBethlehem · 10/12/2014 10:35

OK, expanding on my 'Alain was pissed and ran Olleh over' theory- Alain took his car to the garage to get fixed. He sees the big ear picture in the back of the Hughes' car and comes up with a plan to frame Ian/the paedo ring for Olleh's disappearance. He knows about the ring through his brother, Georges, and gets his help to plant the false evidence. Vincent witnesses the accident but won't come forward because of his involvement in child abuse images/Ian's threats to his mother.

Who wants to pick apart my theory? Grin

OP posts:
Nancy66 · 10/12/2014 10:41

I KNEW phone hacking would play a part. Malik was painted as such a sleazy hack and 2006 was a time when phone hacking was rife.

I don't think Mark is involved. And I'll be really pissed off if Alain is significant. He has been such a minor character, barely half a dozen spoken lines, it will be a real travesty and insult to the viewer if he suddenly is the abductor/killer.

Also, when we saw scenes of Ziane with his son in 2006 wasn't the kid very young? He looked about 18 in 2014 scenes which doesn't add up

Sheitgeist · 10/12/2014 10:44

Maybe ollie bit him, he put his hand in his pocket to get out a tissue and knocked the coin out with his bloody hand?

I like that Beyond! Would explain blood so close to the scene, during the initial struggle.

Could Malik be related to the murdered wife of Charmartin?

Possible, but surely Charmartain's wife was Moroccan, and Malik is a British man of Asian origin?
It was just a story Malik inherited from his late journalist father.
Maybe.

funambulist · 10/12/2014 10:45

Good theory Eau, it's an interesting suggestion that perhaps Ollie's disappearance was an accident, after there have been so many clues to suggest that there was a more sinister reason behind it.

Perhaps Vincent didn't just witness the accident but was involved in some way and that is why he is so distressed and determined to reform. Maybe he was trying to grab Ollie and Ollie ran away into the path of Alain's car. It was dark at that point.

Sheitgeist · 10/12/2014 10:46

Nancy the children in the car were from Ziane's second marriage after he came to France.
He killed the older son's mother before that and fled, leaving him behind.

funambulist · 10/12/2014 10:47

The drain where the coin was found was a roadside drain, so perhaps something significant happened on the road, although I would have thought that there would be blood and tyre tracks at the scene if there had been an accident.

Sheitgeist · 10/12/2014 10:48

Ollie ran away into the path of Alain's car

Oh i do like that... and he was driving drunk at the time. Sylvie knows and is still trying to protect Alain.

Nancy66 · 10/12/2014 10:52

Sheitgiest - ah, thanks. I heard the stuff about him killing the mother but didn't realise there were two wives.

rebelfor · 10/12/2014 10:53

Good theories about the car and Alain drink driving!

BeyondTheTreelights · 10/12/2014 10:58

I would have thought there would be blood and tyre marks or something (though i do like the theory that vincent tried to snatch him, hence the distress)?

Roadside... Well, wherever he went, he'd have to be taken by car as tony started looking straight away.
