Sylvie showed the medal toTony so that he would follow a false trail.

Whoreandpeace · 09/12/2014 22:30

Yes, I thought Mark came out looking like a goodie tonight - forcing Malik to hand over the evidence....

Mark could've planted the medal though. Switched it for the real evidence handed over by malik?

Whoreandpeace · 09/12/2014 22:32

Medal is a sobriety medal. Sylvie showed Alain's collection to Tony when he returned to Chalons du Bois.

Whoreandpeace · 09/12/2014 22:32

But why would Ziane hide this evidence?

EauLittleRougeofBethlehem · 09/12/2014 22:32

Right. Alain is the husband of Sylvie- the run the Hotel Eden. Alain is an alcoholic attending AA meetings and for every year of sobriety he is awarded a medal. A sobriety medal with bloodstains is the thing that Ziane found in the drain.

I love this. Mainly because I think Mark is dodgy. But with only one episode to go, not sure how likely it is.

Outside of Baptiste, Emily, Tony and the son, Mark was the only one who knew Ziane was going to talk about the evidence. The killer called him a "rat". I think Mark arranged for Ziane to be killed before he could spill the beans.

Fayzie1 · 09/12/2014 22:35

I think Mark switched the evidence. I think the evidence found in the drain was actually his police ID/warrant card...but he swapped it with the sobriety coin to take the suspicion away from him......I agree with the theory of a staged abduction except instead of James, Ollie was taken.

secretdetective · 09/12/2014 22:35

Think the medal is a red herring, introduced by Mark, who had to produce something for Julien, as Julien sent him to speak to Malik. He did not open it in front of Malik, so we can't be sure that it is the same item that Malik gave him. Also, did Mark say that there was blood on the medal? Would there have been blood on it if it had been dropped at the time that Ollie was abducted from near the pool? Blood was found in the house where Ollie was kept for the night after he was abducted.

Who else knew that Julien and co were going to visit Ziane? Mark? I think Mark is still in the frame. I half thought that Julien was going to unmask him when he arrived on the train - but that would have been an episode too early!!!

Whoreandpeace · 09/12/2014 22:36

But why did Mark then get the evidence from Malik and hand it over in that last scene? Getting Ziane killed because he was about to reveal the same thing doesn't tie up that it was Mark who did that....

BOFster · 09/12/2014 22:36

Is Alain not dead but in prison? Why would a prisoner need to stop Ziane talking?

Blessedandgrateful · 09/12/2014 22:36

Mark is dodgy.
His come on to Emily in the hotel room showed him properly for the first time what a rat he is.

EauLittleRougeofBethlehem · 09/12/2014 22:37

I noticed as well that Mark didn't open the envelope right away (DH and I were yelling at the TV). Surely he would have been keen to find out? Unless he knew what was in there?

OP posts:
Whoreandpeace · 09/12/2014 22:37

Secret Detective I think you're on the money - yes, Mark could have switched the evidence! We didn't see what was in the envelope when Malik gave it to him. He had plenty of time to create different evidence in that envelope.

LauraPashley · 09/12/2014 22:38

I said it was the medal too!! (preens!!)
However I am now questioning everything- would mark have switched the evidence? Or can we finally agree he's not a baddy since he threatened Malik?

Sheitgeist · 09/12/2014 22:38

I think Sylvie is the queen bee..controlling the men

Yes indeed, when the Hugheses first arrived she told Alain to get off to his meeting. I think this was code for him to tell the gang about this new little boy in town.

I was convinced Mark was doing the divorce kidnap thing with James but Ollie was taken by mistake. I'm not now. Mark was pretty tough and effective for once in his meeting with Malik.

And Baptiste with the mayor? Wow!

FallonColby · 09/12/2014 22:39

I think Mark has the real evidence, the medal is a false trail. If Ziane had talked he would probably have revealed that Mark was in on the abduction and asked Ziane to help. My theory anyway. He was intimidating Malik to protect his own interests.

OttiliaVonBCup · 09/12/2014 22:40

They clearly showed the prisoner on the table next to Ziane eavesdropping.

LauraPashley · 09/12/2014 22:40

Oh crossed posts with lots of you! So mark still a baddun?!!

Surreyblah · 09/12/2014 22:41

In the argument with the mayor/police chief Baptiste referred to Ian Garrett (who was v wealthy) having sponsored the chief's career. And Garrett had other "friends" in the police, eg the one who let him in the cell the night tony was arrested.

Perhaps Garrett also knew mark somehow?

The journalist who tapped the phones thought Garrett was the murderer, because of the message from Emily he hacked but also perhaps because of the evidence zianne found.

We only have mark's word for it being the sobriety coin.

Mark also has sticky-out ears, like the drawing.

Whoreandpeace · 09/12/2014 22:41

Yes Mark still a potential baddie.
