"In his book Attack State Red, Col Richard Kemp describes a soldier preparing his kit on the even of battle. The list includes a rifle with grenade launcher, 540 rounds of ammunition, a Claymore off-route anti-personnel mine, twelve UGL high explosive grenades, two L109 high explosive grenades, a full first aid kit complete with extra morphine syrettes, softee jacket, five litres of water, lightweight stretcher, infrared cyalume night sticks, minflares, and camera."

In Afghanistan they also carried upto 5l of water!

Damn you all, I have CJ POV fanfic on my brain now....

firegirl · 06/12/2014 23:06

Wow *icemist, speechless.

pixieg1rl · 06/12/2014 23:06

When they are setting up the med station at the end of episode 5, and also I think in episode 2 someone else is carrying the stretcher for Molly. They take it from their kit and pass it to her.

firegirl · 06/12/2014 23:07

Get on with it pixie!

Ilovelblue · 06/12/2014 23:07

Oooh I got that wrong didn't I? The airline allowance is in kg not pounds but even so it's more than a big suitcase strapped to your back. They must all be very fit.

nickel sounds a thrilling evening. I hate stuff like that - must admit, I would have made an excuse if at all possible! You are braver than I would have been.

firegirl · 06/12/2014 23:10

Keep cross posting with you pixie , meant get on with it about the fanfic, not your comment re the med kit!

firegirl · 06/12/2014 23:16

Sorry pixie that sounds as if I was being a bit rude, not meant that way either! Too many gins, better go to bed!

Nickel45 · 06/12/2014 23:21

Bit squiffy, but lots of loo trips, but not enough time to read everything. Missing you guys. Want to go home but not even had pudding served yet!!

SPOfficer · 06/12/2014 23:27

Right rhubarb I will take smurf. Will bring my huge knowledge of all things Welsh to bear on the resulting narrative (I went to Anglesey once)

nickel just out of interest are you a leery drunk, a crying drink or a fighting drunk. Just need to know what to expect from future posts!Smile

Nickel45 · 07/12/2014 00:11

Hee hee, depends who I'm with! A few nights ago with good friends a loud in a nice way ... Or so I think when I'm drunk... Kind of drunk, tonight a sleepy quiet drunk who hides in the loo a lot kind of drunk .... Not my kinda bag at all.... !! Is it too early to make excuses ... .

Nickel45 · 07/12/2014 00:13

Excuses to leave not for being a bit sleepy!! Shall shut up now!

orphan · 07/12/2014 00:32

Had a particularly crap day dealing with my eldest's teen crisis. Times like today you realise that although they're officially an adult (18)and so grown up in many ways, underneath they're still just your 'baby' and emotionally very vulnerable. Anyway, been a little light relief coming back to catch up on the thread and am really looking forward to the new planned fan fic.
richtea you're clearly Jane Asher going incognito on here!
Gonna hit my pit now ...

pixieg1rl · 07/12/2014 07:07

7am and I'm up watching rutting stags. DS is going through a nature documentary phase.

icemist · 07/12/2014 07:23

Good morning

Have the misfortune of having to go to ikea today. Will need to stay focused as we are only going to a table and chairs and not reindeer/stag inspired things. Will upload the last chapter if I can before we go.

Stay alert and focused icemist, you must walk through Ikea the correct way, don't whatever you do take the wrong turn or we will loose you forever!

I have to say I love a bit of Ikea but I couldn't get DH there without blood and bruises!

Good luck!

Richtea19 · 07/12/2014 07:55

Orphan, whatever age our children are, especially those think they are adults, will always be our baby's and will always need us one way or another. Maybe for support and guidance or most likely money when they are older! Hope all is well though. Boys can be tough , but also the most loveable. I get the best cuddles from my teenager!

icemist · 07/12/2014 08:06

DH is coming cod I don't drive and not paying £35 delivery charge. I've only been once before and have managed to convince DH I know exactly where things are Grin to speed up our visit. I would like a mooch around but can't see that happening so will be straight to where we actually pick up the table and pay straight away

SPO lots of requests for more zombie fic Grin

cherin · 07/12/2014 09:19

Focus up on the ikea mission! As there's not gonna be any phone coverage or Internet connection downstairs, pretend you are in afghan and scrambling up Taliban signals ;-)
Tell yourself that it's you and CJ buying furniture for their first pad together (MD is much more ikea than John Lewis ;-)

cherin · 07/12/2014 09:20

(Before you think something: my flat, and all of the places I every lived in, are ENTIRELY ikea furnished!)

cherin · 07/12/2014 09:23

(I also know most of the catalogues, past and present, off by heart, and I can tell you the name of the lines I like most and if they came in different colours etc. I am that brokenaddicted)

orphan · 07/12/2014 09:29

richtea I know, mine despite his age is still such a great cuddler! The thing is that although it sounds trite it's a fundamental truth that as a parent the only thing you really want for your children is for them to be happy and when they're not, it's so painful.Sad Warning for those of you with younger children: gird your loins for the trials and tribulations of girlfriend/boyfriend crises!! (Combined with the pressure of university applications is not a good mix)
Need to focus up today and think I'll do Jamie Oliver's get ahead gravy and make mince pies. If I was any good at fiddly pastry decoration (which I'm not) I'd put antlers on the mince pie lids...
