O'Connor reveals episode 7 is a big one for Emily and current beau Mark's (Jason Flemyng) characters. "People will think their relationship is one thing and will find out it isn't that, but actually something else entirely," she says. The expository episode for the couple also is special because it takes place in 2009.
Just found the above. What can it mean. I thought they are getting married, are they?

Hahaha Eau, if the water metaphors mean that then I think we will all willingly drown ourselves as well Wink

Digging further seems Emily and Tonys marriage breaks up in 2009. Also in 2009 another boy goes missing.

2009 has been mentioned a number of times.

We've been speculating on the other thread that Mark and Emily were planning to marry in 2014 (she wears an engagement ring only, finally moves in with him, and has €15k presumably from wedding fund to use in the hunt).

But by 2009 the Hughes marriage could be finally over (the "til death do us part" bit being another thing that is missing, overtaken by divorce).

Many hints that 2009 events are big ones. Certainly the iffy welcome Tony got in 2014 was ascribed to 'after what happened last time you were here'

Fab thread Grin I'm totally hooked and yet confused by the story so far!

Can anyone link this start trailer please?

I'm suspicious of Mark. He just happened to be in France holidaying with his same aged son and assigned to the case? He can't even speak French Grin

Talking of Mark not speaking French...have you noticed that they've given the main French characters reasons for speaking such good English? Baptiste's wife is English...Vincent's mum is (apparently) English, I like these little details

Ooh Florence that's interesting ... So we'll think their relationship is one thing but find out it's something else

What do we currently think or what are we meant to currently think about it?

Maybe we find out Emily has been bullying mark all along and he's dependent on her!

Actually have we seen them kiss/hug? I can't remember but that would open it up to them being brother/sister and she's engaged to someone else

Or maybe it's just a pretense... The whole thing has to be kept up... But why?

Also another boy went missing in 2009?

When was Ian killed that was the week Ollie went missing wasn't it? So can't be Ian

When was Zidane put in prison? If before 2009 then can't be him either

This is assuming the cases are linked

Ooh where did you find out that another boy went missing in 2009?

Report
AuntieStella · 03/12/2014 20:33

Well, Ziane smashed up Baptiste's leg in 2006, and in ep1 Tony described him as someone could help if only he wasn't rotting in jail. So

So unless the attack was not as bad as it seemed, plus the contents of the envelope were not what Z feared, he would have been inside continuously for last 8 years and play no direct part in 2009 events. But if not as it seems, perhaps the events of 2009 are what sends him to prison.

They mentioned another disappearance in 2009.

I just looked on digital spy thread and apparently anyone with imdb account can edit like Wikipedia so not bbc doing cast lists...

Yes that's true (something I do occasionally for work). I wonder whether there was an embargo on that young man being listed in later episode until after broadcast, but he/his excited mum have gone ahead and updated IMDB fully. (They might think of it as chiefly an indutry website, in fairness.)

Incidentally, if you have an a/c it is much easier/quicker/more automated to add IMDB credits than to delete them. Not sure if senior producers have a faster route or not.

I don't get the "Scottish Mum and Boy" bit! I watched episode 1 again today and they sounded very English and now it seems they turn up again with French names, in the cafe the Dad was reading the Express (poor bloke) so I assumed they were English. Anyone any ideas?

Report
AuntieStella · 03/12/2014 22:50

My idea is that they were just recycling the extras they had already engaged, rather than employing more actors.

The relationship being something else...
I have assumed that Mark pursued emily but maybe it was the other way round...

I am surprised Tony and emily lasted until 2009 to be honest!

So does another boy go missing in 2009 which reignites the case?

Report
FallonColby · 03/12/2014 22:56

Auntiestella I hope you're right as the family in the cafe fit in to none of my theories Smile.

SolomanDaisy · 03/12/2014 23:04

Possibly the Duchamps are the family of the second missing boy? I think it's a mistake on imdb saying that they are played by the same actors as the Scottish family, as the talktalk listings have them played by different - French - actors.

. Nesbitt says viewers shouldn't discount the first suspect, saying, "He doesn't leave the story. He's too good of an actor to leave."

Very telling!

Also apparently the ending isn't something we'll be able to guess early on so... So what have we learned that implicates anyone else?

Fayefruitloop I take it he means Vincent, I really didn't think he did it but going by his interview with Malik last night he must know what happens, or maybe he did do it and he confesses to him.

Or could Greg be considered a first suspect, in that they mentioned early on that he would have a motive for revenge.

Report
FayeFruitLoop · 03/12/2014 23:36

Yea I think Greg must have a bigger role to play or why introduce him at all?

They could have given out the info that Tony beat him up without even showing the character

Is Vincent a great actor? I haven't been amazingly impressed so far. Believable but not Oscar winning in the way I have been impressed with Tony and Baptiste
