Original thread here, disappearing scarves, grey-haired doppelgängers and twin theories abound. Has anyone done a spreadsheet yet?

One more thing bothers me ( last one for now I promise!)

I watched again episode 3 to check Ollie's age and when Julien questions Ian about Greg he puts in front of him his bank statement to show the payment to Greg - there is a long pose on the statement, although I can't see the large cash withdrawals Julien talks about I can see a monthly regular transfer of ÂŁ900 to M T Hughes. It might be that Tony uses his middle name or it could be a family member?

reem1 · 28/11/2014 13:43

mewkins - his exact words were

'Ollie was just a baby. I didn't think that the prison sentence for the father would benefit anyone'

OttiliaVonBCup · 28/11/2014 13:54

'Ollie was just a baby. I didn't think that the prison sentence for the father would benefit anyone'

It's not odd, what he's saying is that Toni as person does belong in prison for what he's done to Greg, but because he's the father then it's better for Ollie if he didn't go.

It doesn't mean he's not Ollie's father.

mewkins · 28/11/2014 14:07

Hmm, well it's a bit odd to refer to someone that you are speaking to in the third person... but I suspect the dialogue is intentionally cryptic!!!

LineRunner · 28/11/2014 14:26

reem, absolutely agree about the 'When Mark and James meet Mr and Mrs Hughes' scene. I mean, if you were a cop who had just volunteered to help with a missing child called Ollie, and you heard a woman screaming 'Ollie' in the town where he just went missing, wouldn't you turn around?

Of course it may just be badly directed or craply plotted...

LilMissVixen · 28/11/2014 15:36

I think Emily's dad uses the term 'father' rather than 'you' when talking to Tony because he's making the point that he kept him out of prison for Ollie and Emily's sake, not for Tony's. Dunno why he would say 'the father' rather than 'Ollie's father though'. So maybe it's just a bit of clunky writing?

I also wondered (more musing than a theory) if the discrepancy in dates could be linked to the time between the attack and it coming to court. Maybe Emily's dad wasn't going to help Tony and wasn't bothered about him going to prison, but Ollie's arrival changed things and so they settled out of court. Also (and I'm way too invested in this) if Ollie was born in Sep/Oct, could Emily (and Tony) have found out she was pregnant around the time of the attack?

emotionsecho · 28/11/2014 15:58

It's about as clear as mud, isn't it?

So Tony killed Ian.
He called Ian a rapist, murderer and paedophile, after looking at the tape, I thought what had happened to Molly was on there but I am sure they were talking about a boy as Ian kept saying "It's not him" and then "but he was a beautiful boy wasn't he?".

What does the journalist know? It can't be about Ian's murder surely?

I laughed when I saw up thread someone wondering if Mark was a real policeman because that is exactly what my dh said.

reem1 · 28/11/2014 16:02

I thought about it too but Ollie would be born in Sept/Oct 2001 so over 18 months later. I made a mistake in one of my previous posts saying Sep/Oct 2000. If he was almost 3 in sept 2004 and about 5 in July 2006 he was most likely to be born Sept/Oct 2001.

And Tony and Emily's dad settled it with Greg in Feb2000 so presumably the case was finished and Greg withdrew charges after accepting the payment.

reem1 · 28/11/2014 16:04

Sorry the above was to LilMissVixen post

edamsavestheday · 28/11/2014 16:26

'Ollie was just a baby. I didn't think that the prison sentence for the father would benefit anyone'

Doesn't sound like a clumsy bit of writing to me - I can easily imagine someone I know using that style in conversation. It adds emphasis, I think.

dingit · 28/11/2014 16:33

How old is James? Sorry if someone's already asked. So could they be talking about two babies? Or did she miscarry?
I'm so confused.

reem1 · 28/11/2014 17:08

Not sure how old James is, but I think it would be something out of Jeremy Kyle show if he turned out to be the baby Emily's dad talked about.

reem1 · 28/11/2014 17:13

One thing I know for sure that if Williams brothers are checking this thread they have enough ideas/theories for 2 more series at least!

SomethingFunny · 28/11/2014 17:34

Ok, so if Ollie was just a baby in early 2000, that would mean he is older than he is claimed to be? Why are the claiming he is only 5 if he is 6? I can't work that out at all.

Does anyone have an age theory?

LineRunner · 28/11/2014 17:35

If they're checking this thread I hope they're not panicking about having written a disappointing ending. Grin

LilMissVixen · 28/11/2014 17:39

Thank you reem1! Blush Of course it's 2001, plus I was mistaking the date of the attack and date it was settled!! So many dates I can't keep up! Thanks for clarifying for me. Think I need to go back and watch it again. Sorry.

LineRunner · 28/11/2014 17:46

Btw, I'm presuming Malik's book isn't published yet? That the cover we saw is a mock up?

The Ollie dates are beyond me. Need to watch episode 2 - 4 again!

mewkins · 28/11/2014 17:52

If it is a disappointing ending I hope they are re-shooting as we type!

EauRouge · 28/11/2014 17:59

And they ought to credit us. Written by Harry & Jack Williams and Mumsnet.

I'm hoping James Nesbitt wouldn't have agreed to be in anything disappointing.

reem1 · 28/11/2014 18:36

SomethingFunny your post made me think! - exactly what it is - why they are claiming that Ollie was younger than he was?? We'll maybe there was no another baby but they are just claiming that Ollie was younger than he really was. Although Julien was looking at hospital record saying that Ollie was almost 3 in Sep2004 it is possible that they were using a wrong date of birth. Hmmm but why???

BeyondTheTreelights · 28/11/2014 18:52

No idea why (i dont have spoilers or anything), just have a random feeling that it was his mum that took him. She knew where they were and he would have gone to her...

Just posting that now in case it turns out i am right!

FallonColby · 28/11/2014 19:07

BeyondTheTreelights you're not alone, I've been thinking that since episode one . I have even thought of a possible theory that would fit two babies but realise that would be entering Channel 5 daytime movie territory!

EauRouge · 28/11/2014 19:09

I thought I'd posted this but I hadn't. I think there must have been two pregnancies- it would be very difficult to pass off a young child as 18 months younger than they actually were, wouldn't it?

mewkins · 28/11/2014 19:49

There is something about Emily....her reaction to Ollie going missing riings true but yes, I wonder if Ollie was theirs in the first place or is himself missing from his real family.
