The interview with the writers said that much - return to where it began, so that would tie in.

Can I ask a question at risk of looking like a prize idiot? Did they ever find the family with the boy that wore the scarf in the photo? I know they traced who sent it to the charity shop, but not who bought it.

Not a stupid question! I don't think they did find the family, or there was never any mention of them. AFAIK there was never any significance other than that they bought the scarf from the charity shop. But maybe there'll be a twist and they will be in one of the last few episodes.

dingit They did track down the family, it turns out they were on holiday in the town and bought the scarf at the second-hand shop.

I can't see this mentioned anywhere else, but it's always bugged me that they didn't check for any other items given to the charity shop from the same house - there must've been more than the scarf and the other items might have provided more clues.... or have I missed something?

There are other items from the same house listed in the book. I may have googled to find out what they were Nothing that gives anything away, just usual junk that you give to charity shops.

Good point sssm surely in real life they would do that, but you are right, I don't think they did in the show. The whole scarf thing is very odd, it's almost like whoever is responsible wanted it to be found as you'd think it would have been burned or something to make sure it was gone forever.
