Original thread here, disappearing scarves, grey-haired doppelgängers and twin theories abound. Has anyone done a spreadsheet yet?

I don't think that we should necessarily believe Ian when he says he didn't know what happened to Ollie. He has no morality. Why would he tell the truth to Tony?

BingoBonkers · 30/11/2014 07:50

I think Ian definitely knew. He's involved in allsorts of circles/networks. If he didn't know initially I don't think it would have taken much for him to find out.

mewkins · 30/11/2014 08:06

Well yes, but not if he was taken by a family member...

FayeFruitLoop · 30/11/2014 10:23

Grr I can't wait for Tuesday, I keep reading through this thread as though someone's going to reveal what really happens like a spoiler Blush

EauRouge · 30/11/2014 10:38

I wonder if Ian and the paedophile ring is a massive red herring. They may have nothing to do with Olleh's disappearance but are worried about being found out for their other crimes, and their covering up has made it difficult to find out what happened to Olleh.

I agree, I think the paedophile ring probably is a spoiler. But I've just remembered that the when Ian and Tony were asking the man to reopen the case (the police chief/mayor, not sure) and he spoke about meeting his niece, he said he used to meet her at a specific hotel which has now closed down. Which made me think of the Elm Tree Guest House thing. Particularly as they said, but you can meet her at other hotels and he did a Gallic shrug (I think). Maybe there was a hotel at the centre of the paedophile ring, which had to close down after Olly went missing. The garage recommended the Hotel Eden as a specific alternative to the dodgy hotel, knowing there were local rumours about it?

SolomanDaisy · 30/11/2014 10:49

Diversion, not spoiler.

Two more sleeps, then we'll probably be even more confused, and onto thread number 3...

Ohmygrood · 30/11/2014 11:07

Yes if Oliie was taken by a family member Ian wouldn't know about it.

Blondeshavemorefun · 30/11/2014 11:54

Just seems weird that ollie didn't shout or scream etc if a stranger took him

Yet if it was someone he knew mum granny etc then he would have gone happily

Yes it's a noisey pub but someone would have seen it heard something if ollie shouted

kellohitty · 30/11/2014 11:58

Maybe Mary took Molly to safety which is why she "disappeared?". And then had limited contacted with her or none at all (without Ian knowing) to spare her from him.
He then thinks she has been abducted, maybe even suspecting that his wife has done it to protect Molly.

Ohmygrood · 30/11/2014 11:59

ooh that's a good theory kello!

eddiemairswife · 30/11/2014 12:00

I watched the latest episode again last night, as judging from the comments on here I'd missed masses of important detail . The problem is that as so many dramas are filmed in semi-darkness with actors who mumble I tend to have the sub-titles on, so I seem to miss a lot of the important visual clues. One thing puzzles me. If Tony killed Ian on the boat, why wasn't the body discovered? We know it wasn't, because the authorities had to wait 7 years before he was declared dead.

kellohitty · 30/11/2014 12:03

And then (not over invested in this series,oh no,no,no) perhaps a similar thing has happened to Ollie, whereby he's been abducted to protect him from something? So connecting the two cases in that way but not for the same reasons?

Blondeshavemorefun · 30/11/2014 12:05

Maybe Ian survived but he walked away from the boat thinking police would find all the blood etc and think he had been murdered and he dissapeered easily

Yet Tony goes back to the boat to clean up after maybe telling wife and finds Ian gone so cleans up

So Ian thinks police thinks he's dead but tony knows he isn't as body isn't there

BeyondTheTreelights · 30/11/2014 12:18

That could work... Tony leaves, in shock that he has killed someone. Ian then wakes up, with a bit of a headache but not dead. He finds tony and the tapes gone and so disappears because he knows they will be taken to the police. So we all assume he is dead and that someone got rid of the body (possibly even assume tony got rid), when hes really in hiding and will pop up and surprise us in the final episode?

Obviously this theory is buggered if they show tony burying him this week!! Grin

BingoBonkers · 30/11/2014 12:33

I struggle to see how Ian could have survived that though.

EauRouge · 30/11/2014 12:42

Grin at 'a bit of a headache'. I think Ian is dead and that Tony and Emily hide the body. I can't figure out what they will do with the tapes. The obviously don't hand them in but how can they just destroy them? Maybe they stash them along with the body.

dingit · 30/11/2014 12:43

But if police find boat covered in blood, and suspect murder, surely Tonys DNA would be all over the place. So he would have had to cover it up?

SolomanDaisy · 30/11/2014 13:56

Was Ian in the first episode? He's listed on imdb as being in five.

I can't imagine Tony trying to cover up the killing. He is portrayed as having a temper, but covering it up is cold blooded.

EauRouge · 30/11/2014 14:02

I don't think IMDB can be that reliable as a guide, not just because of the flashbacks but also because they sometimes credit people as being in an episode when they are just in the recap bit at the beginning.

Another possibility- if the police chief (Georges?) is in the paedophile ring then maybe he is involved in the cover-up of Ian's murder. Could he be on one of the tapes perhaps?

wideboy26 · 30/11/2014 14:02

Was Tony so traumatised by the whole experience that he went back to Belfast to become a serial killer? No wait - am I getting my TV dramas mixed up?

toldmywrath · 30/11/2014 15:08

He's not as good looking as the serial killer in Belfast-how can you get them mixed up wideboy? Grin
As BeyondtheTreelights said- a washed chicken would probably have done the job just as well!
The boat was probably scuttled so no trace would exist of either Ian or the blood stained boat

thenightsky · 30/11/2014 15:36

Perhaps Tony sinks the boat somewhere deep with dead Ian inside it. The present day film of the boat in the Indian Ocean was only imagined by Mary after all.

DH keeps saying that the painting of Molly looks like a boy. Could Mary have been bringing her son up as a girl due to her husband, Ian's, sexual preference for small boys?
