Just as the kids have their hormonal earthquakes, we have our owns...
;-)

I never thought my 200%feminist body could hold littlemen, but now I am completely smitten and gape in awe at that magic that makes a boy's morph into a man...and think about my responsibility to ensure he'll be a GoodUn for when the right person will come along
(Note the use of neutral: we had a chat about homosexuality during that bath, after a less than politically correct conversation with grandparents back on the continent. I think I put the record straight ;-) thankfully, his school is fantastic from this point of view!!)

I think ironing is awaiting me, too...may be GA tonight

elsie3g · 16/11/2014 21:31

just watched LT in Frankenstein Live at Leeds, worth watching if you get time..first part here

mummyreeds01 · 16/11/2014 21:42

Got feeling there are some of you ladies who might like to check out Our Girl
'whatta man' on You Tube. Bit of a CJ fest there just in case decompression has been too effective!

elsie3g · 16/11/2014 21:42

Also caught up on ep 5 again this eve. Just picked up on the clever and intentional way MD says 'i failed that' when CJ says 'it's chemistry'....remember back to his question/dig in ep 1 about passing Geography...I like how the roles are very much reversed in ep 5. It's more than she's sussed out who she's supposed to be (helped to believe in herself by Smurf, James, Bashinra & Qaseem).

CJ's the one looking nervous at the restaurant, not Molly.

Nickel45 · 16/11/2014 22:07

That made me grin, mummyreeds, thank you!
icemist I'm recording war horse too. Someone said to me recently, it was the best book they had read, so got the book and will read first. Mostly I find watching the film first, ruins the book! But I never have any time to read .... So please let me know if the film is good!
I have just watched Bluestone 42, found an episode on iplayer. I'd never seen it before, but someone mentioned it on here (ages ago). Quite enjoyed it, felt familiar, if that makes sense, but not a patch on OG. Uniforms though ... Wink

Ilovelblue · 16/11/2014 22:14

mummyreeds - just watched that link - nice thing to see just before I go to bed!

SPOfficer · 16/11/2014 22:22

richtea19 good for you applying for a job. Really hope it leads to something but if it doesn't keep trying!

No blisters I am afraid however hard I tried. Mind you little chance of them being tended I think!

Boys enjoyed the game again although there was a complete loss of discipline at the end which resulted in us just throwing soft toys at each other. I got a Mr Bump right in the face ( the irony wasn't lost on me)

Little one wasn't well in the afternoon so ended up on the sofa with him for an hour or so. To pass the time I did something reallysad which I will share with you all a little later!

Rhubarb01 · 16/11/2014 22:28

I love Bluestone 42. Waiting for series 3 next year. Great humour and I've always enjoyed the will they/won't they relationship between Captain Nick and Padre Mary.

monopod · 16/11/2014 22:35

You lot are prolific! Haven't had the chance to check in all day and as usual need to scrabble to absorb it all quickly enough given that I also have coursework to do...

Anyway instead of doing that I have been re watching the hospital scenes. I hate to disagree with what seems to be the accepted opinion but I don't think it's either a wink or an eye roll... The first looks more like a twitch (c'mon, the guy is full to bursting with morphine and has been through the wringer and still looks great; you can forgive him an involuntary twitch Grin). With the second I guess you could interpret the looking away as having been loaded, but I actually think during that conversation he looks away at points where it's tense or uncomfortable and the reason Smurf leaves is because CJ is actually looking directly and silently at Molly during those moments after the looking away and Smurf obviously picks up on not wanting to be the extraneous extra in the room.

I was at Sainsbury's this afternoon but with DH and a sleeping DD in arms so unfortunately didn't get to do the stag scouting bit! I am full of admiration at your John Lewis finds, though, orphan. Love the huggable hottie!

Ilovelblue · 16/11/2014 23:38

elsie3g - not sure about just him being nervous. I think they were BOTH edgy at the restaurant. CJ was drumming his fingers on the table before she arrived and I think we commented last week that she spoke differently at first - somebody (not me but can't recall who it was now) said it was almost like a telephone voice. It didn't really sound like her at all. We put it down to the fact it was the first time they'd seen each other out of uniform, the date itself and the location I think.

Ok so siting with my youngest this afternoon I started to look through all the posts on this thread over the last month, since OG finished. Had the bright idea of doing a bit of number crunching which grew into a lot of number crunching and eventually into a bit of a spreadsheet (God help me).

And here are the headline figures for your consideration:

Since the 20th October this thread has seen exactly 2900 individual posts, an average of 103.5 per day or about one every 15 minutes.

In terms of posts per week, they split out as follows;

Week 1 - 505 posts
Week 2 - 765 posts
Week 3 - 841 posts
Week 4 - 789 posts ( as of 23.30 today)

The most popular day for posting things is a Tuesday with an average of 128.5 posts and the least popular day is a Saturday with an average of 79 posts.

The single largest number of posts occurred on 28th October when 190 were sent which is about one every 8 minutes. I have no earthly idea why this was such a popular day. Second most popular day was Sunday 9th November - this time last week - when we were all coming up with OG toy ideas!

The worst day for posts so far was Saturday 25th October when only 45 were posted.

Right that's it. Might gonna need to get a life! Please feel free to mock me unreservedly!

Nickel45 · 17/11/2014 00:03

SPO what can I say! ... Good to see you had a productive afternoon ;) I can't believe we post that much, who would have thought we could find so much to talk about! Wonder what happened on the 25th October?

Glad you posted before I went to bed, had been wondering what you had been up to. I made my kids go for a very long muddy walk to tire them out (didnt work, how do kids have so much energy?). Off to sleep now, night!

Richtea19 · 17/11/2014 07:24

Morning all.

SPO I am so impressed with your dedication to this, a spreadsheet!!!! It is rather worrying how we are posting,no am constantly telling the children to get off their devices, maybe I have a problem now! Might gonna need a therapist!

Well managed to watch all of the first OG last night. It was excellent. I do remember a lot of it but now going back after seeing the series you can pick up on bits that can relate to the series. Can't believe what a scum bag her dad is! MD much better chestnut brown rather dry straw blonde! I won't be re watching it like the episodes..... I wonder why???

Off to the gym this morning, quick warm up run, followed by Body Combat ( that's when I dream of CJ, instructor not that lovely unfortunately) and the. Body Pump, like CJ laying down doing bench presses!!!!!! Ahhhh

firegirl · 17/11/2014 07:29

Morning everyone, I had gone back to lurking on this thread for the past few days but I just had to come back on to say a huge THANK YOU to mummyreed for that youtube link. I thought I'd seen everything CJ related there was on there but that video is brilliant, a real tonic and cheers me up massively very time I watch it, even if I'm in a good mood to start with! Thought decompression had started to set in... no chance! I'm going to try and post the link now, something I've never done before so apologies if it goes wrong...

firegirl · 17/11/2014 07:32

Sorry misread your username meant mummyreeds. Anyway, thanks!

mummyreeds01 · 17/11/2014 08:20

Firegirl., you are welcome. Glad you posted the link, sadly I am not techy enough!

Ilovelblue · 17/11/2014 08:21

SPO immense dedication to the cause, especially on a Sunday. Strange that the week after the series ended had fewer posts than more recently. We must have attracted more contributors maybe?

The best thing about that most recent YouTube video is that I can place every single shot except one. Do I need 100% for my PhD?

SPOfficer · 17/11/2014 08:53

Morning all. Have a day off today! Taking DW out for lunch and some retail therapy. Just dropped the boys off at school. Chilly morning but do you think I could get them to put their coats on?

Anyway thanks for the comments on the analysis. Although I haven't done any analysis on contributors (yet) my feeling from looking at the posts generally is that there are less of us over time but we post more per individual.

Anyway have a nice day everyone and will check in later.

cherin · 17/11/2014 09:02

SPO I agree with your guess. It's quite interesting to see how prolific we are, and how we still find discussion points.
Anyway- I have been on forums for years now, mostly one that dates back to my first pregnancy and my 'late' country, and I have to say we built a real friendship, through thick and thin. I am the one living further away so I physically meet them in RL only every now and then (mostly when they come to London! ;-) but nobody at the beginning would believe that such a virtual medium could lead to real friendship. It did.

orphan · 17/11/2014 09:09

Morning all! Just had a very enjoyable few minutes watching the link. Thank you mummyreeds and firegirl There's a b&w shot of CJ laughing that I absolutely adore. sigh

SPO wow, that's dedication. Are you able to draw up graphs as well? And you do realise we'll expect you to continue this analysis? (Btw, glad Bagpuss, fat furry cat puss survived yesterday.)

pixieg1rl · 17/11/2014 09:26

Excellent dedication there SPO, you are a man after my own heart, I love a good spreadsheet.

Beingfrank · 17/11/2014 09:26

Wow SPO - I love a good spreadsheet! Did that really only take you an hour?!

Going back to Molly's dad, it is interesting how he has become a lot less nasty sine the pilot and through the series. This often happens in tv - eg the Battersbys in Coronation Street, and the Garveys in Benidorm - all mellowed considerably over time. (Honestly I really am not that much of a telly addict, I haven't watched Corrie in over 10 years!).

There are still flashes of bad dad though, especially when money is involved, as if he is trying really hard to change but can't quite manage it. He won't take the news well about the £14k....

SPOfficer · 17/11/2014 10:08

Forgot to say thanksNickel45 for the image last night. Perfect viewing before bedtime!

orphan graphs! Now there's a thought. Now the spreadsheet is set up it is relatively easy to update so will keep it going ( oh dear this really isn't helping)

beingfrank and pixieg1rl data gathering took me an hour and spreadsheet about 30 mins. I am not an accountant or statistician so my efforts are fairly rudimentary. I do like dabbling though!

MumOfTheMoos · 17/11/2014 10:49

Beingfrank, you're right, but I think it's a function of the ability to create a realistic character over time. If you've got an hour to tell a story then characterisation of supporting characters has to be quick and therefore will be more two dimensional. Or, in a soap, where fast plot development is key, you have to give really clear sign posts as to what someone's character is very quickly - no time for subtlety. But where you have a series then you have time to layer in subtleties of characterisation.

That's what I'm really enjoying about Our Girl - the plot development is really good but so is the characterisation of the three main protagonists.
