Oh you know, just a quick idea whilst tidying up toys...(CJ clearly)

Beingfrank · 15/11/2014 10:08

Morning everyone!

Mentions of The Fall in this thread, which I didn't watch last time round, spurred me to read a piece on it in the TV guide. The producer, defending against criticisms of the series 1 ending, says: "it was commissioned as a single series with an open or shut ending after the first five hours. We did the business and got a second series. That's how it works".

Sounds a bit like OG!

icemist · 15/11/2014 10:22

I 'stole' the picture from tumblr, but I'm 99% (sorry CJ) it's ep 2 when they have the bit of banter

Love it Cherin!

I never watched The Fall until thur night. Going to look online and see if I can find the 1st series and watch it before Thursday- I'll have something to talk about with colleagues in work then.
Hubby wants to watch love/hate which Is an Irish drama. It's quite violent and sadly no real talent to look at. No CJ sadly

Promising news Beingfrank about commissioning 2nd series. I have got to the stage though that if there wasn't another OG it would be ok? Does this mean I have started decompression?

Beingfrank · 15/11/2014 10:31

Icemist - the whole series 1 is on iplayer so I have persuaded dh we need to watch it (fast, cos who knows when it will disappear!). Then we can start on series 2. Might help me with my decompression. "The Missing" is not really doing it for me!

orphan · 15/11/2014 10:57

SPOthinking about your meme theory, a successful meme needs a host. The longer and more frequently a host uses a meme, the higher the probability of successful propagation. Considering that the OG meme is on its 4th cycle and has even mutated (having spawned from the unpromising 'Has anyone else watched this drivel?') I think we can be confident of a successful evolution with considerable longevity. (As long as the hosts don't get carted away for'special' treatment...)

icemist · 15/11/2014 11:02

Fab beingfrank I shall watch it tonight. Sorry CJ but I need to watch something else, it's not you. It's me... I need a change, emm something else... I'll come back to you soon

Oh NVM and Richtea am so impressed by your diligence. I love you getting out your 'brag book' NVM and forcing the poor girl to admire CJ!!
Can imagine the story she'd be telling her mates later...
Very jealous of your entire adventure.Smile

monopod · 15/11/2014 11:41

NVM and Richtea, very well done indeed! Wish I could have joined you... wonder if anyone is up for doing a similar tour of the Venice of Wales Grin

Been doing errands this morning and was thrilled when Don't Go Breaking My Heart got played in one of the shops! But the singers weren't a patch on CJ and MD. BA really does have a good voice.

orphan, in response to your question upthread, agree that Dornan is super creepy in it. Teen babysitter - wonder how old she is actually? Are teens so assured as that these days betrays old age or general fuddy-duddiness

orphan · 15/11/2014 12:08

monopod in my experience (ie. My son's girlfriends) teen girls from around the age of 15 or so ( or at least round these parts) are incredibly self assured. I look back to when I was their age and I def fell into the category of child rather than young woman. Still, I can't help thinking the teen in The Fall is playing a very dangerous game.

cherin · 15/11/2014 12:17

You are absolutely bonkers, but in a fantastic way!! Can't believe people usually go to Chatsworth in P&P pilgrimage, or Abbey Road for the zebra crossing, you went to a social housing block in Upton Park!! :-)
It takes a fair amount to impress me, but you did!

In comparison, my obsession expressed itself in the purchase of this extra cheesy plastic stag head at the local 99p store. Changes colour with the led inside! Unfortunately DS thought it was for him, so it now blinks on his desk. Bugger. Plus i can't really drape measuring tape on it. Too small. But I can use it as a model for future drawings ;-)

Nice one NVM and Richtea, SO impressed you actually got into the ground and went to the flat. Brilliant.

There is an Earl of Wakefield in Katherine Road, not far fom the ground (e6 1en), which was shut down end of last year ... No, I don't know it (although do know the area a bit) ... found on google while waiting for the kids! But TG knows the area so would know it (think it was a fans pub, so he would maybe have drunk in there?)

Also found this, about how he got the idea for OG
lifeofwylie.com/2013/03/21/our-girl-lacey-turner/

Right, back to RL and muddy kids!

Ilovelblue · 15/11/2014 13:24

NVM and Richtea - soooooooo impressed with your diligence! Sounds as if you really enjoyed yourselves. Loved the "brag book". How old was said accounts girl? Find it hard to imagine you hadn't seen a little of the filming and then not wanted to watch the series!

Have my young nephew here today and we went to view the army tank which is on display nearby. Fun was had by both of us (me more than him maybe) and he claimed he might want to be a soldier when he grows up.

Got caught out earlier in the morning when I was showing him a photo of himself on my phone and the screensaver came up (CJ, who else)? "Who is the army man" asked my nephew. "Will he be at the tank?" If only I thought "Unfortunately not" was my response.

Back in the mists of distant threads someone (am afraid I can't remember who) mentioned they had bought an Agnes Obel, or maybe it was an Ane Brun album. Am very slightly obsessed with their songs on the soundtrack, so wondered what the verdict on the album was?

Lol ilove if only CJ could appear at the wave of a hand, like a genie from a bottle. Am home alone today so as well as washing immense loads of dirty sports kit, breaking an iron and buying a new one, I'm planning on watching the original Our Girl.

monopod · 15/11/2014 14:03

Orphan, 'twas me who bought the Agnes Obel album (Aventine)! It is really good; I'd definitely recommend it. I think it's better than her debut album (Philharmonics).

I can't remember ever being as self-assured as that as a teen, or even in my twenties. But then I've always been really self-conscious. My kids are only little but I already fear for their teenage years...

threadNneedle · 15/11/2014 14:21

So I broke down and bought the DVD. The Boots on the ground bit is interesting but I feel that there could have been so much more.
Not sure if it's been asked before but what extras would you have liked to see on the DVD?

I would have loved to see the whole duet and even better, a conversation between them later that evening....

icemist · 15/11/2014 15:00

10/10 ladies

If I ever get to London you can bring me on a guided tour Smile

Where did you tell people you were?

All the missing scenes! Them bonding over blisters, the conversation after end Ep 3 more of the kiss in bath - the script says kiss we did not get a kiss stamps feet

OP posts:
orphan · 15/11/2014 15:10

threadneedle yes to your ideas. Also director and actors' commentary would be good. Very def a proper kiss in full lighting. Haven't got the DVD yet. I very nearly bought it, then thought I'd try and exercise self control but my son's getting it for me for Xmas anyway.

monopod thanks, I'll add that to my Xmas list then. Ooh, you've got so much to look forward to re teens!!

Burning question having just watched ep 5 again ( I know I was going to watch the original, but the lure of some of my fave scenes proved too much) : does CJ wink at Molly in the hospital when he's telling her there's nothing in their way any more? He blinks then it def looks like a wink, or is it just a twitch?

Rhubarb01 · 15/11/2014 15:14

Richtea and Nappyvalleymum for services above and beyond the call of duty and for being prepared to risk your own embarrassment for the sake of others I think you should both be awarded the Mumsnet Cross!

threadneedle I though the DVD was a little hastily prepared. I think interviews with the three main leads would have been nice and someone mentioned way back on thread two that they would have liked a director's commentary. I agree.

Beingfrank the comments about the second series of The Fall are interesting. I can help thinking that although there is a strong fan following for OG a lot of the critical reviews weren't so impressive. I think The Fall was generally praised whereas some of the reviews for OG were pretty negative and jumped on some of the implausibilities of the plot. One review said "Nice Action, shame about the dialogue". The Radio Times was not very complimentary at all. Their chief critic really didn't like it and wrote a piece mentioning how miserable Molly was (1st episode and last episode) and how annoying all the BBC trailers were. I suppose The Fall also has GA, a fairly big name and has more potential for overseas sales. I'd like to see a second series of OG but I'm not sure how much weight fan votes alone carry with the decision makers. Shame!

mandy214 · 15/11/2014 16:40

NVM and richtea I think we should have a MN version of the MC - for going above and beyond. "It takes a fair amount to impress me" and you ladies have done that Grin

I can't believe that there were staff at West Ham who didn't know what had happened / about the filming.

Rhubarb01 · 15/11/2014 16:54

Mandy214 it is amazing what people fail to observe. I have watched a Channel 4 comedy being filmed in a busy street with a film crew there, the main actor present and in position and members of the public have wandered about oblivious to proceedings within a few feet of what is going on with no idea that they will later be appearing on TV!

Nickel45 · 15/11/2014 17:26

Just did a big shop in sainsburys and actually had fun! Silly grin on my face when I spotted the stags head, didn't see any checked shirts, but popped into fat face and found checked pj's. Started thinking about CJ in checked pjs.... Had to leave very quickly, mustn't go there ...!

cherin · 15/11/2014 17:30

Yes! CJ in checked pj!! I like it! (I have one, will CJ like me?)
