I thought it necessary to check out the "Molly" in Episode 4 and given that my hearing is not always the best and subtitles are not unheard of in our house - often I have to say due to mumbling from actors and sudden alterations to sound levels (don't get me started on Jamaica Inn) - anyway with the sound turned up and headphones on I have to agree that there is a very softly spoken "Molly" from CJ as she walks past.

On the mumbling issue, I have to say that if I had not read the script I still would have no idea what Smurf blurted out on the bridge in his moment of anguish as, try as I may, I cannot match the verbal with the written words. Sorry to say this, even CJ occasionally mumbled a bit, but obviously in a very endearing way! As for Molly, crystal clear diction throughout. All those years yelling on Eastenders hasn't been wasted (although I don't watch it - too dreary!)

icemist · 07/11/2014 20:45

its on DVD, TV and iplayer versions.
Someone on tumblr pointed it out. it took me a few attempts to hear it then realised with headphones on I could hear more background noise too- vehicles moving, voices etc its very quick though

Ok i also rewatched ep 4 last night - at the beginning just when they are finishing the run and Kinders is shouting at them, is it just me or does a bit of spit fly out of his mouth and land on his bottom lip? Sorry to lower the tone but these are questions of great import!

icemist · 07/11/2014 21:00

yeah, he's doing a lot of spraying...

I must admit, now that I am a little familiar with the lines, to looking at whats going on elsewhere. Kinders certainly has a very fit body Grin bit he's no CJ

I thought it was just me who thought they were mumbling, ie, maybe my hearing wasn't up to scratch. When I listened to the recording I made straight off the TV, I really struggled sometimes but when I listened to it on iPlayer, it was a lot better and the DVD is also much better. Feel relieved I'm not such an old crock as I feared now!

Ilovelblue · 07/11/2014 21:07

Fit body yes icemist but he really doesn't do anything for me as CJ does.

firegirl · 07/11/2014 21:11

Does anyone know what it is that smurf says when they stop the truck in ep3? Just as CJ gets out to investigate the sheet in the road (Sohail). Smurf asks him something and he replies "have you drawn that gun, Smurf?" I've tried loads of times but I just can't work it out.

icemist · 07/11/2014 21:16

ooh its on the subtitles on the DVD... shall check

I've heard the "Molly"!! Listened to it with earphones and it's quite audible. Try again iheart, it's worth it, cos it does sound quite anguished. Ridiculous, but I feel really happy now!

Rhubarb01 · 07/11/2014 21:18

The script says:

SMURF: "I'll barmer your way, Boss!"

JAMES: "Need you on that gun, Smurf"

I do not know what 'barmer' means. Is it a Welsh expression?

stressybird · 07/11/2014 21:19

Really cheesed off. Been working hard this week and having rushed out to buy the DVD on Monday, have been savouring the moment I'd have time to settle down and watch it. Having suggested to DH that as TV was generally crap on a Friday, perhaps we could watch an episode, he informs me there's something on about Roman history he's going to watch. Am now sitting here sulking and wondering if I can feign sickness tomorrow so that he might consider taking DS to soft play or something. That way, I can 'recover' in bed and watch my favourite bits. Honestly, feel like I'm a moody teenager not getting her own way. Taking all my strength not to stomp off to my room shouting "it's so unfaaaaaaaair!"

firegirl · 07/11/2014 21:24

Thanks Rhubarb. That's been bugging me for a while. No idea what barmer means either. Perhaps someone could tweet Iwan and ask him? Not me. (Scared)

icemist · 07/11/2014 21:27

smurf says ''I'll barmer your way boss''
CJ- ''need you on that gun Smurf''

Can't believe how much more I can hear with headphones. When they kiss you can hear it, not that I was particularly searching for that moment...
Will now have a legitimate excuse to watch the entire series all over again.

icemist · 07/11/2014 21:31

glad you heard it orphan Don't know why its not louder as its quite an aww moment, cos he knows how much he's f**ked up. And he's called her by her 1st name not Dawes.

firegirl · 07/11/2014 21:31

Thanks icemist. Don't suppose you know what "barmer" means?

threadNneedle · 07/11/2014 21:31

Isn't it something to do with the mine sweepy thing (look at me with my army knowledge.) CJ decides to do it himself rather than sending one of his men.

icemist · 07/11/2014 21:33

oh yes I had forgotten that too orphan
i used headphones today to watch the epsiodes

OP posts:
firegirl · 07/11/2014 21:37

I thought that mine sweepy thing was called a vallon or something? And now I have to watch everything all over again with headphones in to see what else I've missed?! Honestly, a CJ obsessive's work is never done...

icemist · 07/11/2014 21:38

the mine sweeper is called 'vallon' cos CJ says i'll vallon the perimeter. but even google doesnt know what 'bamber' means

OP posts:
magcas123 · 07/11/2014 21:39

After reading your posts re CJ saying "Molly" I've just watched the scene with headphones full blast with my eyese closed (of course) and I actually heard it!!! It's when Molly steps out of the wardrobe and passes CJ on her way out! Smile

Rhubarb01 · 07/11/2014 21:43

Do you think its a military slang term or acronym. As threadneedle says he goes himself rather then send one his men (I think somewhere the stupidity of doing that has been mentioned - oh dear, have used the term stupid in connection with CJ - I meant 'plot device'). It sounds like Smurf is volunteering to do something and CJ says he wants him to stay on the gun.

firegirl · 07/11/2014 21:46

I've just checked the iplayer subtitles and "Molly" doesn't come up when he says it, so I presume not on dvd subtitles either? I wonder why because as pointed out previously it's quite a poignant moment and they could have made more of it, especially as it's the first time we hear him say her name. Do you think BA added that bit in himself?

galaxy99 · 07/11/2014 21:51

It's only me now so I'll just have to go and watch episode 4 again with volume on full blast. kinders isn't a patch on CJ but has anyone noticed the looks Kinders gives Molly? He definitely eyes her up when she is on stage at the end of episode 2.

icemist · 07/11/2014 21:52

not on DVD subtitles eitherfiregirl
must be something thats slipped through maybe?
but it does change something- not majorly but its like for that brief moment he's not her Captain he's her equal spent a lot of time thinking this over
