Spartak you are very welcome and that is some dedication to do that

Welcome Spartak!
Everybody cheer up for the new members! We could call this the OG Anonymous...at some point someone is expected to stand up and declare "hi, my name is This and I am a OG-holic", at which point we all reply "hello, This!"
:-)

New members, in case you didn't notice, this is the Third Thread of discussion. We are That mental! ;-)

Spartak · 09/11/2014 22:16

Thanks! I feel slightly ridiculous though. I'm 37 and yet I'm gazing at the tv like a lovestruck teenager.

Ilovelblue · 09/11/2014 22:20

Spartak - I am almost 50 and I'm not embarrassed, so why should you be! I suppose I did feel a bit silly at the beginning, now I think about it though. Welcome to the throng. Very dedicated re the DVD by the way!

When I checked in this morning, I think we were on page 11 - we are now up to page 17 and that's just in 3 days! No decompression yet by the looks of it!

icemist · 09/11/2014 22:21

Thats ok, we are all like that. I sent my first ever fanmail at the age of 40!

Some of us have tried to walk away but failed...

Who isn't?! :-)
(Amongst us, I mean)

icemist · 09/11/2014 22:26

its more fun in here than the FB group, there is no talk of a CJ figure or annuals in there.

OP posts:
Spartak · 09/11/2014 22:27

I'm a sucker for a man in uniform.
I dated an Army Captain for a few months. Looked nothing like CJ though. And had some slightly peculiar habits as well. I only stayed with for as long as I did because I liked the uniform.

MumOfTheMoos · 09/11/2014 22:41

Yes, I love the way she lowers the lids of her eyes in desire - such brilliant acting!! Or maybe not...who knows...??

No, honestly, I think her ability to convey female sexual desire so subtly but in an instant so. Powerfully is fab.

I've just watched Downton - it's got really slow, like Julian followes just can't be bothered anymore.

Richtea19 · 09/11/2014 22:44

Icemist, glad you said that about FB I saw the comment about strictly OG related, felt like I was back at school Hmm. Love discussing OG in an imaginary way, ie, dressing up dolls, hot water bottle covers and annuals!
Just about to have a fanFiction fix.
Sweet CJ dreams one and all x

monopod · 09/11/2014 22:46

I just finished watching Ep 2 in between having been distracted by multiple Sunday night chores, guitar practice etc. and finally caught the first wink in the duet scene YEY!!

Agree that Downton is so tiresome now. The only one worth watching is Maggie Smith.

SPOfficer · 09/11/2014 22:49

Welcome Spartak!

Cherin what would be our 12 steps to recovery at OG Anonymous? Would the first be to admit that we are powerless against CJs charms and to stick another episode on. The next 11 steps would then just say ’see step 1'.

mandy214 · 09/11/2014 22:49

No I'm here. Been away for a girlie weekend with no internet access Hmm BUT one of my friends had seen episodes 1-4 and she shared a slight CJ appreciation - sounded promising at the beginning of the weekend - although how you can get to the end of episode 4 and not watch ep5 straight away (as it was still on iplayer) shows she'll never quite reach the same levels of obsession Smile!! And she didn't like know who Alex Clare was and couldn't recite any lines word for word what a disappointment Grin. It was quite funny that it was friends who have known me for 30+ years and never seen me quite like this Grin.

Am off to catch up with the thread.

When is the carol concert?

PassTheSherry · 09/11/2014 22:50

Welcome Spartak (and all other newbies, lurkers etc). The dvd mission was above and beyond, and we all know how the Bossman adores a keen and eager soldier!

Don't worry about the teenage crush - it's a nice reminder that we're still alive that's all. Some people have really embraced it and used it as a catalyst for "moving on up", taken up new challenges etc. It's a good thing if it encourages us to "be brilliant".

elsie3g · 09/11/2014 22:50

You lot are terrible!! I'm forcing myself to watch Downton but I've never got on with it since Matthew left! At 37 (with dh & 3 sprogs) I'm also wondering why I've become so attached to this programme. I hope(!) it's cos like many I'm attracted to Cj and love them chemistry between the main players. I've recently (stopped fast forwarding to the Cj/MJ bits) and have started to watch the whole thing again and as a consequence really appreciate the impact smurf has on Molly. And also the impact Molly has on her parents after the changes in her life - 'who's pulling you up?' [her dad]

Spartak · 09/11/2014 22:57

There's a flaw with the DVD. It can only be rewound in 15 minute chunks. Which means that I can't flick backwards and forwards between my favourite bits so easily.

SPOfficer · 09/11/2014 23:01

Elsie 3g I have been doing exactly the same. Watching the whole thing adds depth and contrast to the central story and reminded me of some really good bits I had forgotten about!

Richtea19 · 09/11/2014 23:04

Threadneedle, thanks for link for FanFict. Very good reading before bedtime.??

orphan · 09/11/2014 23:15

Welcome Spartak Now you've admitted your addiction, the therapy is a lot of fun.
Thinking about the carol concert (whilst gnashing teeth jealously cos I can't go) and wondering what reading BA will be giving. I expect hundreds of female eyes will be trained on his mouth, hoping he'll do a lip bite/mouth twitch...

elsie3g · 09/11/2014 23:30

Cheers SPO. It's a really solid story when watched back in full. The careful interplay between all the combos is lovely. For me Smurf gives Molly as much self belief as Cj. It's as if Smurf is supporting her move up & take control, and Cj learns to appreciate & respect her and holds her hand as she transitions

orphan · 09/11/2014 23:48

Threadneedle just read the link and on that very happy note I'm going to bed. (How soon can the hot water bottle cover be put in production? Though maybe I need a CJ cold compress instead)

Ditto1 · 10/11/2014 00:09

I've had a really good week. Talked DH into helping me join twitter, mumsnet and even buy Dvd's! Dvd's arrived today after Rememberance parades. After putting DD to bed, even talked him into watching original pilot and ep 1. He still doesn't get obsession and wouldn't roll his sleeves up when I asked Confused. DH gone to bed so might gonna need to watch ep 2 on my own now! This GCSE, A Level malarchy is hell Wink

Spartak · 10/11/2014 00:11

Is the pilot worth watching Ditto? I can't find it online other than in sections on you tube, didn't know whether to buy it on DVD.

Ditto1 · 10/11/2014 00:32

I loved it when it was first on TV, and believe it gives you real background to Molly's character. As soon as series was advertised I knew I'd be hooked. Managed to get DH to watch it tonight (I'm sure he thinks I'm in the middle of mid life crisis, to be fair I think he's right, my hormones are all over the place but CJ is definitely not helping that!) I did notice I didn't appreciate the music as much, but worth asking some of our experts on here. Their research is unquestionably accurate and enlightening Smile and I love it! (Reason why I joined)

PassTheSherry · 10/11/2014 01:01

I downloaded the pilot from itunes as the youtube ones had a chunk missing. I really enjoyed it - but it has a slightly grittier tone than the series (her dad is actually quite unpleasant). It's a quality stand alone drama. Hmm - also Mathew McNulty as Corporal Geddings was good - he and Molly had chemistry. Though obviously not at all in the same way as Captain James. It was really interesting to see Molly's backstory and really how far she has come from the somewhat chaotic and dysfunctional home life. She's looks SO different at the beginning too - but you can absolutely believe in her as a character. Lacey Turner does a fantastic job - best acting I've seen her do.
