Have just caught up with this and apart from the obvious far-fetchery (exceptionally detailed charity shop records, woman happy to let two random men into her house and then let them wander at will etc.) found it reasonably gripping.

One thing bothers me though. I may have missed it (probably have Hmm) but where did the photo of the boy in the scarf come from in the first place?

It was Bastille Day celebrations in the town that the son disappeared from.

I think he has a friend there who sent them to him & the boy happened to be in them.

I was only half watching.

So is the thought then that Ollie was kidnapped, & held in the cellar whilst the place was empty & being decorated?

then in a clear out the scarf was given to a charity shop but no one noticed that they had never seen it before(?)

The owner of the hotel they are are staying in in the flashback scenes posted the pictures of Bastille Day on Facebook. Tony is obviously in touch with her on FB (and maybe more??) and saw the pics that way.

Aaaah. Thanks both Smile

I think the suggestion is that Ollie was held in the house while it was empty, yes but yet more coincidence in that the owner doesn't appear to have spotted the bed and picture in the cellar in eight years?

Hmmm.

Oh my goodness, the last 5 mins was tense!!!Shock

Re the mum, they're trying to contrast her efforts to move on with Tony's inability to do so. So she sends her missing son's teddies to the local hospital and gets on with planning her wedding while he stumbles around France in the rain still searching for the child.

I don't like James nesbit so don't know if to bother with any more.

i am curious as to what happened, though.

The mum did break down several times, in private didn't she? Maybe the drama is trying to show us that people react differently to the same situation. It doesn't mean they don't care.

It was ok. I agree with others though. The woman letting the 2 men into her home with out more proof of who they wereShock
The mum giving away the boys teddy etc
And the charity shop keeping such details of every piece of crap that came into the shop!!

Sue Ryder keeps details of everything you bring in, then sends you a letter at the end of the year telling you how much the stuff you've donated has raised.

The woman knew James Nesbitt was the father of the missing boy. She said that she recognised him.
I thought that she seemed shaken to see him and that she knows more than she's letting on.

Muddlewitch · 01/11/2014 18:26

I thought the woman who owns the house with the cellar knew more too.

I thought it was really good, didn't realise it was on for eight weeks though I had assumed two or three.

Report
Davros · 01/11/2014 18:26

Yes, I thought she seemed shaken to see him too but maybe because she recognised him from the missing child case but it WAS 8 years before. But then, if she had some connection, why would she let them in and wander around?

I didnt notice the bed in the basement - was that the point when he said 'yes he was here' (just before he saw the pic)

Report
DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 01/11/2014 20:56

It wasn't a bed,I think it was just stuff stacked against the wall.

Finally watched. It's good tho not sure how can string it out for another 7hrs

Got a little confused about the cellar house. So he spots the scarf on someone. They brought it from a charity shop and the cellar lady took it there so was her address in the book - yes unusual to write every donatuin down

So where did she find the scarf? Did she say she rented the house out and was at the same time when boy dissapeered?

Yes strange she never noticed the drawing on wall

Mum didn't aeem that shocked that son was missing first week and yes also weird she got rid of all his belongings :(

When in the cellar house and speaking rapid french shame they didn't have subtitles on like before

I know very basic French but couidnt understand IT

Yes seems the mum is getting on with her life where dad is more can't give up till find him /see a body

Watched it yesterday.
Yes there's alot of annoying co-incidences and 'oh how neatly that happens'

The mum sees a boy , runs after him.. and the Dad just happens to be the Police Officer involved iin their case Hmm

The scarf Hmm

The dad opening a door that just happens to be the cellar. And he just happens to see the picture Hmm

I'll give it a couple of weeks (mind you I didn't 'get' Broadchurch' and gave up after a couple of episodes)

TBH I was just so pissed off at how he lost the child.

I know it's not real, but I was thinking "just go back to the hotel for a bloody drink".

And then that he got sidetracked by the bloody football.

Oh, I'm seeing the McCanns similarity now. Her haircut, physique, praying in the church...

The almost-sex scene was horrible.
