I like Kay Mellor and it has a great cast. Anyone else giving it a go?

OP posts:

oh dear, serious fizzle-out after 5 really good previous episodes. Lots of loose ends and yes, is Rosie REALLY that stupid?

also that's a huge premature baby...

oh well.

Tigresswoods · 09/09/2014 22:32

Shock horror at prison sentence for aggravated robbery "but it's your first offence!"

Is that how it works then? No one goes to prison the first time? No. Bye bye Rick.

Violetcloud · 09/09/2014 22:40

Did anyone notice that Dr Chris was channeling Hugh Grant tonight? He's suddenly turned into a ridiculously awkward British romantic...

Whooshtheyweregone · 09/09/2014 22:47

Yes Violet, I thought exactly the same!

Southeastdweller · 09/09/2014 22:49

Yes I agree about the Doctor. He looks a little like H.G, too.

Surely there has to be a second series with the decent viewing figures and all the loose ends waiting to be tied-up?

DustBunnyFarmer · 09/09/2014 22:52

Their inability to communicate effectively is going to be a huge problem. Gah!

It was infuriating shite tonight. Worst episode so far.

Lilliput · 09/09/2014 22:52

As a midwife I have watched it with different eyes. The newborn babies in tv stuff are always not right. The recent newborn in Eastenders seemed to have a strawberry layer yoghurt smeared on its head when born.
However I quite liked the drama until this week. There were no paeds in the room for delivery and chances are the doc would have used forceps to speed things up. The babies are always too exposed too, wrap the poor little things up!
I was disappointed Hermione's baby wasn't born with fetal alcohol syndrome to add to the drama.
I could go on. But overall I enjoyed it.

MetalLaLa · 09/09/2014 22:53

I said the Hugh Grant observation to my DH, who likes to pretend he isn't watching it with me huge lie

Lilliput · 09/09/2014 22:53

Oh? Last thing. Why are there only 3 midwives in the whole hospital that seem to do everything?

DustBunnyFarmer · 09/09/2014 22:58

I'm not a midwife and even I commented to DH about the lack of paediatrician for the perm delivery this week. Is it the most careless maternity unit in Britain?

DustBunnyFarmer · 09/09/2014 22:59

Damned bloody autocorrect. PREM not perm.

Lilliput · 09/09/2014 22:59

They certainly have staffing issues.

BreconBeBuggered · 09/09/2014 23:38

Perhaps the hospital is twinned with the one in Erinsborough.

Magnolia1975 · 10/09/2014 06:34

Noooooo too many lose ends!

Does rowanna get her divorce & money?
Does Jill halfpenny lose the house?
Do social services get involved?

I could go on....but have work to do.

AppleYumYum · 10/09/2014 08:42

I think two versions of the last episode was filmed, if the ratings were crap then the nice tied up happy ending shown, if they were good then the loose ends version and another series commissioned.

sydneyrose78 · 10/09/2014 14:46

well i though it was a really good series!! so what if there are a couple of mistakes doesn't every programme have mistakes! I really hope we get a second series

DinoSnores · 10/09/2014 16:47

It was all rather painful and ridiculous, but I just kept watching, perhaps so I could criticise the very odd arrangements at the maternity hospital.

There was only one obstetrician in the whole place, who, if he really had been looking after his partner and baby, would have been struck off!

There were no paediatricians at the delivery of a prem baby.

There were only 3 midwives, one of whom just popped in to a patient's house for a cup of coffee!

Hmm, I wonder if it was all set at Mid Staffs Hospital!

Anyway, I imagine I'll watch a second series if there is one! There was definitely part of me that really enjoyed it, perhaps because it was so cliched! Grin

Southeastdweller · 10/09/2014 17:17

Just looked at the production company's website and no news yet of a second series but there's a third series of The Syndicate coming up that's going to be broadcast next year.

sydneyrose78 · 10/09/2014 18:12

apparently there is suppose to be a second series i think the daughter of kay mellor tweeted it x

Doobledootch · 10/09/2014 19:58

They certainly have staffing issues mainly due to the fact the seem to have picked up 4 random people of the street to run their maternity unit!

It was ok and I probably would watch a second series, as I actually enjoyed the picking holes in every some of the storylines.

HoneywithLemon · 10/09/2014 20:43

Well, I stuck with it as I couldn't believe just how bad it was, and hoped it would get better and half the time I'm on my lap top of an evening anyway with only half an eye on the tv. It could have been so much better - accomplished writer, great cast, great subjects, great acting given the awful material. Must try harder, Kay Mellor.

BBQsAreSooooOverrated · 11/09/2014 10:06

Argh there was too many loose ends, really disappointed.
I hope there is another series to tie it up nicely.

Where was Kim at the end? At Neils, Susie's, bed sit?

ruralmyth · 11/09/2014 12:45

I feel very cheated.
Baby Hope was on the brink and being baptised one minute then home the next.
Was Heremoine Norris supposed to have boffed her DP's father?
Why didn't Hugh Grant Dr Chris tell Vicky he was married before?
Would someone break a van window when a baby's been alone in the car for 5 minutes?

Having predicted the 2nd series I'm not sure I can stomach it.

TheDietStartsTomorrow · 11/09/2014 13:01

Here's my endings for you all:

Kim and Neil got together and raised the baby as their own. The brunette was just supposed to be a one night stand because he was lonely but in his heart, Kim was the one for him.

Susie became a new granny instead of new mummy. She never found it in her to be nice to Rosie but ended up as a granny of two by the end of the year.

Dev finally found the balls to stand up to his bully of a wife and told her to shut up and get off his case. Once he grew a pair, the relationship was a lot more balanced and he made tea, she made lunch. Life was bliss. Without the stress of her nagging, he made fewer boobs.

Rowana got her money and moved out. She decided secrets were not good and told her DP she'd previously shagged his dad. He had a tantrum. Cried. Went back home. Punched dad. Rowana cried too. They kissed. He put it behind him but couldn't face dad again. His mum only saw grandchild at their new home.

Rick got out in 6 months. Wrote a book. Made thousands. Got his house and life back. Hope was smaller than her twin but was fine in every other aspect.

Vicky married Doc. He stayed frigidy. She stayed tarty.

Anyone left?

DinoSnores · 11/09/2014 13:48

What about poor Geraldine left holding the fort at the maternity hospital with the Moody Midwife?! You've forgotten all about her. Wink
