Just watching it now with DH, kids gone to bed stuffed with chocolate. Anyone else enjoying this as much as I am?

yeah Lou's going to get it I reckon. unless Molly dies saving him.

2rebecca · 16/06/2014 15:47

This is a sequel to the Coen brothers film so I doubt watching the original would spoil anything as reading the synopsis of the original they only sound loosely connected.

mummytime · 16/06/2014 16:37

Its Apple pie.

I'm very curious about what happened in Sioux City, and if Sioux Falls has been mentioned before (they are in different States BTW).

Never mind were the fish a freak storm or did Malvo arrange them somehow? (The driver seemed to have been shot? Last week.)

slartybartfast · 16/06/2014 16:45

I think the fish were a freak storm.
love MArtin Freeman in this too.
and appreciating billy bob with the grey

slartybartfast · 16/06/2014 16:45

Whats Apple pie?

mummytime · 16/06/2014 17:09

Malvo ordered Apple Pie, I can't remember his phrase but he insinuated that Cherry Pie was evil/bad. But he also definitely made a comment about the Apple Pie which drew a comparison between him and Satan in the garden of eden.

Coumarin · 16/06/2014 17:15

"No good ever came from a slice of cherry pie."

BOFster · 16/06/2014 17:17

I'm pretty sure it was cherry pie, because it made me think of Twin Peaks.

Mandy2003 · 16/06/2014 17:46

I am pretty sure Sioux Falls was mentioned before, yes. That's why I wondered.

Mandy2003 · 16/06/2014 18:00

Ha! The Duluth lieutenant says it when telling Gus off for letting Malvo go when he's driving Lester's car Grin

Thymeout · 16/06/2014 18:24

Lou also mentioned Sioux Falls earlier on, when he was talking to Gus about working for an impossible boss. I think whatever happened there was the reason Lou left the police.

BOFster · 16/06/2014 18:46

I'm not sure it had to be directly relevant- it could just be a rare event that put Lou in mind of pure evil, which he senses in Malvo.

I watched the diner scene again, btw. Lou has cherry or apple pie, and Malvo says something like "No good ever came from cherry pie"...it feels significant, but I'm beat if I can work out why, goshdarnit Grin

Thymeout · 16/06/2014 20:03

I think it's an homage to David Lynch and Twin Peaks. Agent Cooper and 'damn fine cherry pie'.

There are also lots of nods to other films by the Coen Bros. I'm no expert but people on the Guardian blog are always picking up on them.

BOFster · 16/06/2014 20:09

Yes, the "choice" presented to Lester echoes the coin flipping in No Country For Old Men, definitely.

2rebecca · 16/06/2014 22:05

I can't believe Lester was stupid enough not to guess what would happen next though. I'm no coward but when Marvo said "just walk away" I would have vanished. I don't understand why Marvo didn't kill him in the lift as well, a less interesting film but more believable. If he was willing to let him live in the lift why hunt him down exposing yourself later.

Thymeout · 17/06/2014 08:27

I think Malvo needed Lester to help him move the bodies. (Tho' he's never been particularly bothered about covering his tracks before.) Then he'd have finished him off.

But this series is all about 'interesting' rather than 'believable'. Having Lester escape moves the action back to Bemidgi into Molly's orbit, as well the opportunity for Lester to expose his darker side by using Linda as a stalking horse.

mileysorearse · 17/06/2014 09:42

It's been bugging me what else I have seen Linda in. If anyone watched Revenge she was the Falcon.

Girlsbrigadewashorrible · 17/06/2014 18:29

Lester should have listened to the advice 'Walk Away'. He has really dug himself deep now.

I thought bbt looked much better with grey/blonde colour hair

Girlsbrigadewashorrible · 17/06/2014 20:07

I agree Susie, he suits being a silver fox. A pair of devil horns would also complete his new look.

Coumarin · 17/06/2014 21:27

Are those his real teeth?

Girlsbrigadewashorrible · 17/06/2014 21:34

Good point about the teeth. That guy gives me the chills.

OP posts:
susiedaisy · 17/06/2014 22:49

I keep looking at his teeth wondering if they are his?

Coumarin · 17/06/2014 23:52

Good dentist teeth though so it helped his cover story there. Grin

Youdontneedacriminallawyer · 18/06/2014 12:44

There's going to be a second series, but it's going to have a different cast.
