MsNobodyAgain · 06/12/2013 14:49

This is a thread for all lovers of the daytime soap 'Doctors', BBC1, 1.45pm. All welcome, newbies, regulars, lurkers. Let me entertain you with a festive song:

The 12 Days of Doctors Christmas
On the twelfth day of Christmas
My true love sent to me
Twelve Mandy's fretting
Eleven Chris's whinging
Ten Jimmi's washing
Nine Heston's scripting
Eight Barry's peering
Seven Daniel's flirting
Six Zara's glaring
Five paaaa-tients!
Four sad Robs
Three pies for Al
Two Karens
And a tabard in a pear tree

Xmas Smile Xmas Smile Xmas Smile

The apostrophe police will have a field day with that one ^

(Private note to Kev: go on.....show me your baubles! Xmas Grin)

You are all much too good. I bought aldi mince pies- and they only had their cheapst, so got some Asda ones 'for best' Xmas Grin.

In my defence, I am going to my mother's late Christmas day, and will get her mince pies. She makes the BEST mince pies- they have a Viennese whirl style topping, rather than a lid, and just melt in the mouth. She's made them for years. They are very naice. Xmas Grin

I have just attempted to clean my oven with one of those'stick the racks in a bag thing'. My expectations are low. It is the first time I've cleaned it for years ever .

BIL is very honoured, hope he appreciates it. Didn't even clean it for his motherGrin

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 23/12/2013 21:52

Raahh - I have given my oven it's annual pre Christmas clean with that stuff for the last few years it's very good. However this year I had half a bottle left over and no bag so I used the stuff on the oven and put the racks in the DW instead and they came out like new and much less mess than the bag.

I'm starting to get my threads confused - my other long running one is Flylady if I start talking about Doctors on there they will take the piss out of me

ClayDavis · 23/12/2013 21:53

That's brave of you Raahh. I'm not sure I'd dare clean my oven. Might need to if I end up doing christmas here. Which is looking increasingly likely. I think it's a bit late notice to do Christmas properly though.

Raahh · 23/12/2013 21:56

ooh- Who - it's good to know they work. It may need more than one go, but I'm happy with 'cleaner' as opposed to ' health hazard' Xmas Grin

ClayDavis · 23/12/2013 22:06

If it works I may attempt to use one. Sounds much less effort than having to scrub it myself.

I never manage Flylady I start with good intentions and then get lost somewhere around 'get dressed to your shoes and shine your sink'.

Hmm. It sounds like our recycling bins have just taken off.

cinnamongreyhound · 23/12/2013 22:09

Dh cleans our oven, he deems it a mans job so let him get on with it.

My friend was telling me yesterday her mum makes mince pies with marshmallow tops. She put them on before bakin so they melt all over the top. I usually but mincemeat but didn't this year and couldn't be bothered to go out again so I won't bother!

Raahh · 23/12/2013 22:09

I sent ds out to retrieve one of our bins. He said it was full of water. But he only noticed after he heard the splash when he put rubbish in itXmas Grin

cinnamongreyhound · 23/12/2013 22:12

What is Flylady?

ClayDavis · 23/12/2013 22:26
Xmas Grin

There are 20 recycling bins between our building and next door and by the sounds of it they're doing circuits of the drive. Having already gone through 3 complete changes of clothes today I have no intention of going and retrieving them. I'm also going to bury my head in the sand about the huge bang just now. The walls, roof and windows appear to be intact so that suits me fine for now.

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 24/12/2013 00:11

Flylady is a system for managing your household, not just the housework, but paperwork, menu planning and everything to do with running a home. It's a website founded by an American woman who posts every day the things you need to be doing and lots of inspirational guff. There is a long running thread in Good Housekeeping, you may have spotted it in Most Active, always has the word Fledgling in the title. I have been bumbling along on it for 4 years now, they are a truly amazing bunch on there.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 24/12/2013 07:08

Went to M&S this morning to pick up my turkey etc and as I was leaving I saw lots of Xmas Shock faces standing around the order collection point. Apparently no venison was delivered. I think some people are having to quickly re-plan their menus!

Popped to Sainsbury's afterwards and it was deserted. M&S had hardly any non-pre-order people too. Think everyone must have shopped yesterday.

My mincemeat that I made last year tastes even better this year. Obviously I had to taste 3 one of the pies for quality control purposes.

cinnamongreyhound · 24/12/2013 07:24

At least 3 one seems necessary Xmas Wink!

We had a horrible night here! I usually sleep through most things but was awake on and off all night. Ds's are still asleep but dh has gone to work so I got with him and made him coffee before he left Xmas Smile

MsNobodyAgain · 24/12/2013 07:43

Bad night here too cinnamon Xmas Sad

Too windy for DS2 and DD kept telling me she felt sick. I was sympathetic at first but after the fifth time of her coming to my bedroom declaring how sick she felt and that she couldn't sleep, I asked her what she expected me to do Xmas Blush.

I am sure she felt I'll from running round after a fizzy drink. It's not a bug. Please don't let her get ill.

I am not going out today. I may not even get dressed. Xmas Grin. And being divorced means no in laws. Sweeeeeet!

OP posts:
MsNobodyAgain · 24/12/2013 07:45

*ill not I'll. Sigh.

cinnamongreyhound · 24/12/2013 07:47

My in laws like to be left alone for Christmas! Got the ex wife coming today to pick dss up. She panicking because dh is at work and she doesn't want to get here before him, can't help but have a little giggle to myself about that one!

I felt really sick Sunday and was worried about a bug but it passed after a couple of hours and a walk round the forest, phew! Hope dd is ok, I get snappy at night if they wake me repeatedly for nothing too MsNobodyAgain! Usually let's me know if there's really something up too Xmas Wink

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 24/12/2013 09:08

I did manage to get to sleep. but was woken by a cat walking over my back at some point, heard DH muttering at her.

Bit of damage in the garden, trampoline has blown over and three fence panels are broken (one ours, two belonging to neighbours). Nothing serious though.

Got quite a bit of tidying to do, then quite a bit of food prep (yorkshire pudding batter, veg prep, pigs in blankets, stuff for dessert). The meat and veg is all due to be delivered from the veggie box people, but not sure what time. Also need to walk DD round to deliver a present to her best friend.

Raahh · 24/12/2013 09:39

Well get me- domestic goddess in the making. I am a total convert to 'clean it in the bag ' oven cleaner. It's a Christmas miracle. Why did I leave it in the cupboard for 2 years before using it? Why did i leave it til 2 days before Christmas to get a (nearly) clean oven ?got to be a few years worth close to a decades worth of muck in there.

The innards may need another go in athoer 10 years , but the racks are gleaming.

My mother will be so proud.Xmas Grin

Pity the rest of the house looks like Steptoe's junk year, only insideXmas Grin

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 24/12/2013 10:03
Grin
MsNobodyAgain · 24/12/2013 11:23

I used to like Steptoe.

I am trying to decide what to wear tomorrow. It is slim pickings and I have no control over the room heat being at mums house. Dilemma! I think I will layer up and peel off accordingly.

I am hoping someone has bought the boys new clothes that I can just whack on them and get on with the day.

OP posts:
Raahh · 24/12/2013 13:58

MsN- Grin. I have worn the same skirt on Christmas day for the last 4 years. We go to mum's Christmas late Christmas afternoon, and my dad's on Boxing day. Unfortunately, my sister is usually at both, so i can't get away with wearing the skirt 2 days running and no-one noticing. But this year she will not be at mum's so - huzzah!!!

And dd2 is the best dressed of all of us, as she is only just getting old enough to realise she can have tat for Christmas/birthday, and has had clothes up to now. Plus she has dd1's old stuff- most of which already fits as she is so tall.

Dh needs to buy the winning lottery ticket tonight, or else. Grin

curlyclaz13 · 24/12/2013 14:28

I have no idea what to wear tomorrow, if I ask OH he will say 'a nice dress' which is his default answer, to which I will reply 'and how will I feed ds' which has been my answer for six months ! Don't know if any nice clothes fit me now

ClayDavis · 24/12/2013 14:42

I'll add clean it in the bag oven stuff to the shopping list then. Travel plans are going badly. The trains aren't running and I thin they've given up even trying to put a replacenent bus service on. Just ran out of work 2hrs before I was supposed to saying something about there being a coach going vaguely near somewhere I might want to be and I'll see her next week.

Just made it. God knows where I'm actually going to wake up tomorrow morning. I doubt it will be at my grandparents.

MsNobodyAgain · 24/12/2013 14:57

That sounds incredibly stressful Clay Xmas Sad. Good luck.

curly you have every right to dress for comfort and practicality. Might not make you feel top of the world, but needs must unfortunately.

Raahh Yay for the Christmas skirt! Xmas Grin. Anyway you are missing some qual-e-tay TV. 'Clash of the Titans' is on Channel 5+1. There's a winged horse (Pegasus?), a man that looks like a chimp and a dinosaur thingy as well. They just don't make films like this anymore for good reason.

Ohhhh, I love crap TV Xmas Smile

OP posts:
Raahh · 24/12/2013 15:26

Clash of the titans?? Are there tortoises made up to look like Dinosaurs, you know i love a good tortoise/dino combo.

I love shit telly. Sadly, I will have to record everything tomorrow.

Then I will have to make several attempts to watch the Doctor Who Christmas special. I can't drink during the day tomorrow Sad(i like to have a glass of wine or 6 whilst cooking), as I'm driving to my mum's with the dcs whilst Dh takes bil home. I will leave my car there overnight though (she's only a few miles away), and get in on Boxing day. I'm going to need a drink by then. I'll probably need one by 7amXmas Grin

cinnamongreyhound · 24/12/2013 16:50

I put clash of the titans on for dh and the boys love it!

We have to go through and see what we want to record as my mum bans tv on Christmas Day!!
