This is a thread for all lovers of the daytime soap 'Doctors', BBC1, 1.45pm. All welcome, newbies, regulars, lurkers. Let me entertain you with a festive song:

The 12 Days of Doctors Christmas
On the twelfth day of Christmas
My true love sent to me
Twelve Mandy's fretting
Eleven Chris's whinging
Ten Jimmi's washing
Nine Heston's scripting
Eight Barry's peering
Seven Daniel's flirting
Six Zara's glaring
Five paaaa-tients!
Four sad Robs
Three pies for Al
Two Karens
And a tabard in a pear tree

Xmas Smile Xmas Smile Xmas Smile

The apostrophe police will have a field day with that one ^

(Private note to Kev: go on.....show me your baubles! Xmas Grin)

I'm at work today, and I miss checking in with you all around 1.45!

We're hosting too, but no overnight visitors, just my parents who are local. I did a big stock up Ocado shop for all the normal essentials yesterday because it was the last day before the £9.99 delivery charge kicks in. The goose, veg, sausages and bacon, dairy stuff for Christmas is all due to be delivered by Riverford on Christmas Eve, hoping it comes fairly early as I don't want to be prepping veg all evening. Going to make and freeze stuffing at the weekend. Already made Jamie Oliver's make ahead gravy - if you haven't tried it go on, it's fabulous.

However in amongst all the shopping, card writing, present wrapping, I have hurt my back, so am struggling with the everyday stuff, so I have a mountain of clean clothes to sort, put away, iron etc, the house is depressingly untidy and all I want to do is put my feet up.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 19/12/2013 15:11

I'm back! It is hell out there! Xmas Shock

I got the cheeses, crackers, pigs in blankets, fresh cranberry sauce, parsnips, cabbage, streaky bacon, parsnips, carrots, grapes, broccoli and cauliflower. All had dates beyond the 26th.

I also got a load of milk, butter and part-baked bread to keep us ticking over.

I have cheated with the gravy again this year - I order the pouches from M&S which I will collect with my turkey on Christmas Eve. I got them last year and the gravy was lovely, and no stress at all - a couple of minutes in the microwave. I don't think I will ever make my own gravy at Christmas again.

I still have to get cream, salad stuff and more fruit, but I feel a lot better now. If Christmas happened tomorrow we would be ok, as I have a huge gammon in the fridge ready to cook.

I can't believe how busy it was! The supermarket car park was heaving and the queues at all the tills were long - on a Thursday afternoon! I have never seen Costco so busy during the week, either. Anyone would think it was Christmas next week...

And of course, while I was out I missed a parcel delivery. I expect the postman was hiding behind a bush waiting for me to go out before popping the red card through the door.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 19/12/2013 15:12

I know I said parsnips twice. I did actually get two bags.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 19/12/2013 15:13

Oh WhoKnows I hope your back is better soon. Totally the wrong time of year for something like that, isn't it? Can't you lie back and delegate from the sofa?

AnneEyhtMeyer · 19/12/2013 15:14

Ood I think I am going to prep and freeze the roasties at the weekend. And the mash probably.

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 19/12/2013 15:45

Not really Anne - partly because it's just not in my nature and partly because most of what I need to do occurs while DH is at work, although he is very good at helping when this happens (once or twice a year). Normally it is better in a day or two, but it is worse this time, so I phoned round a few physios yesterday and found a nice local one who spent 90 minutes sorting me out this morning for the very reasonable sum of £40, I am not completely better but definitely a bit improved and she has given me a lot of exercises ant tips to get it better and strengthen things up. How annoying that your postman hid like that!

AnneEyhtMeyer · 19/12/2013 18:01

Oh dear, well I hope you are ok in time for Christmas, WhoKnows. I know what you mean though, I find it difficult to delegate, I'd rather just do stuff myself.

curlyclaz13 · 19/12/2013 18:24

Gosh you lot are organised ! I foolishly expected the farmers market to have venison but they had sold out so have asked the organic man to get me some bloody expensive stuff and am crossing my fingers he can otherwise I have to rethink dinner. veg box comes Tuesday so pot luck on what veg we are having. Only done family cards and nothing is wrapped. Still have presents to buy as well. can I forget it this year ? Small boy crys every time I move more than two foot so can't really do much in the house either.

MsNobodyAgain · 19/12/2013 19:48

Hope you recover soon who.

Absolute loss of a day for me between police visits, CAFCASS interviews, solicitors calls and my ex making ludicrous threats and sneaking into places he shouldn't be.
Xmas Sad

However, hopefully I can book a slot on the Jeremy Kyle Show in the new year Xmas Grin. I have a crush on Jezza (I know...terrible isn't it?)

MsNobodyAgain · 19/12/2013 19:50

Oh Anne, was it really that busy?

I have to go out tomorrow. Will I get the rage?

OP posts:
HoggyTruffle · 19/12/2013 21:37

Don't leave the sprouts until the last minute. I did that one year and the only ones left were posh ones on a stalk. More money for extra work and an inedible stalk. They were a bugger to chop off. I'm sure sprout related injuries must be high on the A&E list at Christmas.

cinnamongreyhound · 19/12/2013 21:58

Glad you've seen someone about your back WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes, dh suffers with his back and has a good physio and swears by Mackenzie stretches.

Sorry to hear that MsNobodyAgain, what an even more rubbish than normal time to be an arse!!

Ds2 and I got my last presents today and did food shop to last until after Christmas. Milk will be my problem, my fridge only has room for 6 x 4pinters and my lot drink so much! Dss can drink a 4 Pinter + to himself over a weekend :(. If was pretty busy considering most people should be at work but no unbearable.

Raahh · 19/12/2013 21:58

MsNo -that sounds awful, hope you and the dcs are ok. what a shit time to go through all that? A friend of mine was in court on Monday, her ex ended up being arrested etc the other year, but still maintains she is the unfit parent. Beggars belief.

I was in Aldi at 8.30 this morning (has a £5 off voucher from the SunGrin). Got most of the veg, because only me really eats it. so if it's rubbish, it doesn't matter Dh's brother is coming for lunch- he's in no position to be fussyGrin. He's doing the beef. I always have trout (don't like meat), and we do turkey (just because) and gammon (because the dcs eat it).

I haven't wrapped anything, and haven't sorted ds;s birthday - which is the 29th. It's mine on the 30th, but I've long since given up on that!

Xmas Grin
ClayDavis · 19/12/2013 22:09

I have to go to lidl on Saturday. It's going to be a nightmare isn't it? I still have all my some last minute Christmas shopping to do too. Hopefully I'm getting paid tomorrow or it's going to end up being really, really last minute.

Hope your back gets better soon, Whoknows. This thread has just reminded me I haven't done any of my physio exercises yet today. Should probably do that now.

OodKingWenceslas · 19/12/2013 22:28

MsN FFS, what a pita. Angry

WhoKnowsWhereTheMistletoes · 20/12/2013 00:28

Cinnamon we keep spare milk outside at this time of year, provided it's in the shade it is nearly always cold enough. We only have room for 3 X 4 pint in the fridge.

MsN sorry, that sounds crap.

I've got a day off tomorrow and the DCs will be at school, two more presents to get, unless I get the twitch. Also got a mountain of ironing to tackle.

Raahh · 20/12/2013 07:34

dh has the day off, and we were going to do the last of the main food shop alcohol etc. Then I was going to hit the pound shops for last minute stocking filler stuff (every year I buy pencils/colouring pens/gloves- all of which have going missing by boxing dayGrin)

But dd1, who is rarely ill, woke up at 5, and was sick all over her bed. She hates missing school- she was ill the last day before Christmas last year. I have a feeling it's the combination of over-excitement, the bug doing the rounds and all the crap party food she ate yesterday. She's so upset.

It has put a spanner in the works a bit.

MsNobodyAgain · 20/12/2013 08:23

Poor DD1 Raahh Xmas Sad. Nowt worse than a poorly little 'un.

I am going straight out today then wrapping. I can see gift bags being used copiously.

OP posts:
cinnamongreyhound · 20/12/2013 14:05

Being sick is the worst Raahh! Hope she's feeling better soon, and recovers from her disappointment of missing school!

I've got a few more to wrap plus a couple of birthday presents to wrap and I think I'm done.

MsNobodyAgain · 20/12/2013 14:50

I have wrapped! I am done. Xmas Grin

OP posts:
AnneEyhtMeyer · 20/12/2013 20:59

I went to M&S today and got a lot more stuff as they had cream etc with dates well past the 25th. DD then dragged me around Toys R Us, which was hellish. I just stood there trying to zone it all out, and repeating "No, you can't buy anything, Christmas is next week".

Hope life is treating you better now, MsN.

Raahh - oh poor MiniRaahh, is she on the mend now? Did you leave DH at home with her and sneak out to do the shopping?

OodKingWenceslas · 20/12/2013 21:18

Hope she's better soon Raah

Well done MsN Xmas Grin we are almost there, only a few in the post to wrap bloody twitch

Raahh · 20/12/2013 23:04

Thanks everyone, dd1 finally fell asleep, but has been sick on and off all day.I'm hoping she is a bit better tomorrow. She got a bar of Wonka chocolate from her teacher (chocolate/Wonka has been their topic this term), so she was pleased. She sent it home with ds .

I did go out, and finished the food shop. I just need trout and cream. I no longer care if all the veg goes offGrin. Dh's brother is not a fussy bloke, so it should be okGrin.

I then had to go out and finish getting the stocking fillers. I have topped off my day by wrapping everything (I think)- and for once, it is all labelled. There have been many years when I have neglected to label things.

I watched 'It's a Wonderful life' and drank mulled wine. I hate wrapping presentXmas Grin.

Oh, and I got a Christmas card from my sister. Inside the card was to dh and I- but the card was actually for 'Nanna and Grandad'. I've a feeling it was meant for my BIL's parents. I told my mum, as she passed the cards on vis dh at breakfast club- (so sister will definitely find out)- and I haven't heard a word. Which says a lot about her, really.

OodKingWenceslas · 21/12/2013 08:30

Just been crying at the Xmas appeals thread. I'm feeling very emotional this year. Dh says the same. Dd3 is really getting it for the first time and the fact we have ds at all is beyond words.
Just heard dd3 saying 'happy Christmas my baba' to him

MsNobodyAgain · 21/12/2013 09:26

Ood awwwww, bless you love. X

I have only been on the Xmas Appeal thread to post my thanks. I couldn't read the rest as I get all weepy.

I too look at DS2 and thank God he is here. The first Christmas he had chemo I took sooooooo many pictures as I was scared it would be his last. But now he's fit as a fiddle and it is the first year he has really understood Christmas so it is extra special.

Right, I've gone all weepy now. I only came on the thread to moan my microwave has broken Xmas Grin. No popcorn for movie night then Xmas Sad
