I'm still stupidly excited about the 'new' Troughton episodes, but just to add to the fun, Watch are showing some seriously classic episodes today from 2pm. Any else watching? And what are you looking forward to as we approach the anniversary episode and beyond?

I love love love Peter Capaldi. It's going to be quite refreshing fancying the Doctor again Grin

oh Adric Sad. never see that episoe before (earthshock, today, 5th doc).

don't know what was more moving, Adric blown up or the end titles eerily without music at all. very surreal.

but the cybermen were brill, best version of them IMO, and Grin Beryl Reid!

KayHarker · 26/10/2013 19:13

I remember Earthshock the first time round. Truly stunning - I don't get all the Adric hate, I really liked him. And yes, I sobbed like a toddler and my daughter did that "Mum, are you crying" thing that is so annoying.

BurlyShassey · 26/10/2013 19:38

I don't get the Adric hate either. its like the Wesley Crusher thing isn't it?

Matthew Waterhouse has aged well. (programme before the episode).

Sarah Sutton-thought she was Janet Ellis for a minute!
and Tegan looked like Sheena Easton when she was younger, DC loved her character in the episode.

its the mark of a good episode in that Im still reeling from it!

btw theres a thread on AIBU about Doctor WHo.

BurlyShassey · 26/10/2013 20:08

Lol, Kay just seen you on the other Dr Who thead! Grin.

and agree with you too.

KayHarker · 26/10/2013 20:22

I'm spreading myself thin cos I started this one Grin

BurlyShassey · 26/10/2013 20:34

so explain your nn in reference to Pat troughton then please!
my next nn will be aWho ref, got it in list. will change soon.

don't know why MNHQ haven't gifted us with a WHO emoticon (dalek/K9/tardis whatever) for its 50th Sad

KayHarker · 26/10/2013 20:39

It's from a book called The Box Of Delights - Troughton was the mysterious Cole Hawlings when it was transferred to the small screen. Highly recommended for nostalgic children's teatime viewing, and Troughton is wonderful in it.

BurlyShassey · 26/10/2013 20:42

ah yes, Ive heard he was in that. vaguely remember it . wasnt he in phoenix and the carpet (think it was called that)too?

KayHarker · 26/10/2013 20:49

There you have me unsure. I vaguely remember it, but I'm not sure he was in it. Shall have to do some investigation.

BurlyShassey · 26/10/2013 20:53

ill google if I can in a mo. my dongles flicking (!) so may lose internet connexion in a mo, so if I suddenly disappear that's the reason!
only get it for a while in the evenings due to area I live in.

KayHarker · 26/10/2013 20:57

I think it's which doesn't have a mention of Troughton, but the comments seem to indicate there is a Who connection.

OP posts:
BurlyShassey · 26/10/2013 21:03

was googling but nothing came up. my utube sgone now.s cant get into your link.

was so sure it was him though. must be mixed up with B.O.D

BurlyShassey · 27/10/2013 18:16

fell asleep during 6th today Sad. liked the sluggy alien thing with the weird laugh but wish theyd shown a better episode.

oh well, 7th and 8th next weekend!

watching the 5 doctors now on dvd.

Davros · 27/10/2013 18:21

Does anyone remember a character in the 80s I think called Herbert who turned out to be H G Wells? He was played by my BIL's nephew. I was so excited at the time and knew him quite well. Shame he didn't get a long term part

footflapper · 27/10/2013 18:33

Think I might do a Dr Who name change for the anniversary

BurlyShassey · 27/10/2013 18:41

Davros no idea!
Got my Dr Who nm all ready. may change sooner than later!

LOVE Anthony Ainly (the master) hes so slimy! Roger Delgado was brilliant too, devious and menacing. but get excited eveyrtime AA comes on in the 5 docs!

RustyBear · 27/10/2013 18:50

HG Wells. I do vaguely remember him, but it was a Colin Baker episode which means I only watched it once...

BurlyShassey · 27/10/2013 18:57

btw- Pater Capaldi was in my dream last night! and with an extra hour too!

he was Malcolm Tucker (altho ive never watched ITTOI) but he was in ''the office''(programme) instead, and I was here too!

nothing steamy happened Angry but it was nice to gaze upon him Smile

Davros · 27/10/2013 19:30

Weird dream! I don't need to change my name I suppose. YES to a DW icon/emoticon, that would be great

Oodisgonnagetya · 27/10/2013 20:35

Emoticon was requested ages ago & a nickname comp.

footflapper · 28/10/2013 10:22

From The Unicorn and the Wasp..

The Doctor: [knocks on the TARDIS door] We'll be late for cocktails!
[TARDIS door opens, Donna steps out, wearing 1920s dress]
Donna Noble: What d'you think? Flapper? Or slapper?
The Doctor: [smiles] Flapper. You look lovely.

Think i'll incorporate this into my name change Wink

KayHarker · 28/10/2013 11:26

A diddy little TARDIS emoticon would be fabulous Grin

BurlyShassey · 02/11/2013 18:39

How 80's synth was the theme today???? it was so bad! and some of the incidental music just did not go with the story.

love Mcoy though and the Brig! and Bessie!

apprantly next weeks 9th doc story is 'bad wolf/parting of the ways'. really thought theyd have shown 'the empty child/doctor dances'. Sad

BerstieSpotts · 02/11/2013 18:43

DP downloaded all of the original episodes so we were going to watch through them but haven't got around to it.

We've just booked cinema tickets for the 50th! Can't wait!
