I'm still stupidly excited about the 'new' Troughton episodes, but just to add to the fun, Watch are showing some seriously classic episodes today from 2pm. Any else watching? And what are you looking forward to as we approach the anniversary episode and beyond?

How much McGann in that??? Honestly, it's like bloody buses, not a televisual sniff for 17 years then...Christmas. Sorry to mix my metaphors, I've come over all unnecessary...

edamsavestheday · 18/11/2013 22:20

I remember the delicious Mr McGann first from the Monocled Mutineer.... and then I discovered there were a whole family of gorgeous McGann brothers. Those were happy days!

PaulMcGannsMistress · 18/11/2013 23:18

Might watch Withnail and I tomorrow while everyone else is out, just for the sheer damn hell of it.

AnAdventureInCakeAndWine · 19/11/2013 07:23

It's 3.05 on Watch, TheDoctrine, if you have that.

I thought the Ultimate Guide was quite disappointing; too many talking heads who knew no more about the show than I did and not enough actual insight (although I did find McGann's thoughts interesting; he tends to get left out of this sort of programme). And it was too biased towards New Who and too fond of random musical montages instead of actual content. [grumpy old woman emoticon]

TheDoctrineOfWho · 19/11/2013 07:27

Oh no, we don't have Watch any more. That explains it though.

Watch (or whatever it used to be called) is the whole reason I got back into Doctor Who, they used to show new Who back to back in the afternoons when I BF'd DS1 and he fell asleep on my lap so I could keep watching Smile

PaulMcGannsMistress · 19/11/2013 09:06

I enjoyed the Ultimate Guide better than the Doctors:revisited stuff on Watch. And not just because of the obvious. There was more Classic Who than on Watch.

OhYouBadBadKaleds · 19/11/2013 09:17

I've asked for a name changing comp cos I reckon it is such an important occasion - it should be marked formally by mn.

thread here

AnAdventureInCakeAndWine · 19/11/2013 09:27

I didn't catch the Doctors:revisited stuff on Watch Blush. It wasn't bad, it was just what you'd get if you fed a computer a bunch of pop culture documentaries, a few C-list celebrities and a bunch of DW footage and told it to generate a documentary.

I kept wanting to take a set of editing scissors to it and cut out anyone who wasn't actually involved with the show, all the montages, the "so far we've told you" and "later we're going to tell you" sequences, the virtually minute-by-minute recap of "The Parting Of The Ways" and the rather pointless framing sequence with Matt Smith in an unconvincing wig. That would have got it down to about half its length; then I'd put in contributions from writers/directors/producers, talk about plot arcs and how they've been worked into the show, give some more time over to classic companions (Turlough, for example, was easily one of the most interesting companions and I think we saw about two words from him in one clip. Digressing slightly, I think we often get more interesting companions when there's one who isn't there because he/she thinks the Doctor is marvellous or wants to go off on adventures; Turlough's the most extreme example of this but see also Mickey and Rory), find time to at least mention Roger Delgado's name and -- well, a bunch of stuff. I have a mental list.

AnAdventureInCakeAndWine · 19/11/2013 09:33

Oh, and given at least a nod to Big Finish for keeping everything going during the interregnum. And plaudits for RTD for stopping the BBC shutting the BF operation down when Who came back in 2005.

IndiansOnTheRailroad · 19/11/2013 09:36

I suppose the thing I'm looking forward to most is Peter Davison's film which I hope is going to be shown at the excel on Saturday. If it's red button then I will be quite annoyed since we won't be home till late on Sunday, from the event. The thing I was looking forward to most was The Light At The End and obviously we already have that. And I think TDOTD will have to go some to compare (yes it's got Tenny but even so....)

Davros · 19/11/2013 09:43

I thought all the cinema shows were on Saturday to coincide with showing the new episode on TV? Gutted that local fancy dress shop has run out of Fezs although they say they'll have more in before Saturday
Name changing comp not fair to those of us (me!) who already had a DW name

IndiansOnTheRailroad · 19/11/2013 09:51

I'm v afraid that RTD is being airbrushed out of the whole thing. He won't even be at the excel. Phil Collinson will be there, but that's it from the original team (as far as I know. People are still keeping quiet about stuff though for fear of BEING ERASED).

Big Fin have a panel all to themselves at the excel though, and what with that and the official canonization (which was underlined by Moff's post mini side comments) they have had a spectacular month. Even despite the audiogo hoohah.

AnAdventureInCakeAndWine · 19/11/2013 10:02

What was the audiogo hoohah?

IndiansOnTheRailroad · 19/11/2013 11:00

Gone bust. Well - been forced to cease trading. Press releases etc indicate possible legal brouhaha in the future. Best not to speculate. As a result of this, the last instalment of Destiny of The Doctor was massively delayed and all the forthcoming target readings etc I guess are spiked for now - obvs it was the DotD release that was a prob for BF since they produced it for AudioGo and they were selling it themselves as well as it being sold through normal AudioGo outlets. But they have it available for download now so it looks like they've navigated that issue - and Moffs comments etc do indicate a shiny future (new series contract? Would be wonderful. Let's face it, Big Fin IS DW).

OhYouBadBadKaleds · 19/11/2013 11:02

Davros - just keep your name and jump on the thread :) those you are always loyal should go to the top of the list!

AnAdventureInCakeAndWine · 19/11/2013 11:05

Wow, I completely missed that!

PaulMcGannsMistress · 19/11/2013 11:07

Only just changed my name, not changing it again.

OhYouBadBadKaleds · 19/11/2013 11:09

Will put a proviso on the request for comp thread - those already changed or dr who ish dont need to change!!

OhYouBadBadKaleds · 19/11/2013 11:12

I have added in the proviso :)

Mind you, where are our tardis emoticons?? :( and our weeny little daleks.

PaulMcGannsMistress · 19/11/2013 11:31

Finally got around to listening to the end of To the death. :(

IndiansOnTheRailroad · 19/11/2013 11:59

AnAdventure It's been all over the forums... and in the real news too...

IndiansOnTheRailroad · 19/11/2013 12:00

Dark eyes 2 trailer went up yesterday. Supposed to be out in Feb but I'm hoping they will have copies at Big Fin Day 4 in January. They do have form for releasing stuff early to coincide with events...and since McGann will be there it would surely be rude not to have his latest box set available? Grin

PaulMcGannsMistress · 19/11/2013 12:04

Haven't got Dark Eyes yet - I have to rely on birthday and Chrimbo cash for my store of BF.

IndiansOnTheRailroad · 19/11/2013 12:06

They have regular sales, you know. Almost every weekend. Although it's a lottery what will be included at any given time. I wouldn't be surprised if Dark Eyes 1 went on sale to promote Dark Eyes 2 though between now and Jan/Feb

AnAdventureInCakeAndWine · 19/11/2013 12:10

I don't follow the specialist Who forums any more; just checked and there's nothing on Den of Geek or io9, which are where I tend to pick up most snippets, and there's one tiny story on the BBC news website (from the date of which I gather it happened over half term when we were away and without Internet). On Mumsnet it was mentioned once, in passing, on a thread about the fact that John Finnemore was on Only Connect.

On balance, and allowing for differing interpretations of "all over", I think I'll absolve myself for my ignorance Grin.
