It's a bit soon for me to have an opinion yet, but it looks interesting enough that I'm recording it to watch later with DH...

In the comments on The Guardian website it says that the photos the old bloke set fire to......they were photos of all the dead/returned people.

Sunnywithshowers · 09/06/2013 23:22

I can't wait for next week.

lilibet · 09/06/2013 23:39

Oh wow, that pilot episode was amazing. We taped it so the adverts weren't too annoying but I was really hoping that it would be a double episode.

This can take over after The Fall finishes tomorrow for my weekly freak out.

SomeDizzyWhore1804 · 09/06/2013 23:45

Loved this!! Can't wait for next week.

NishiNoUsagi · 09/06/2013 23:47

I can see it being on of those that you have to go back and watch again when the season finishes, to pick up on all the hints (like the old man burning the returneds' photos.)

I thought the little boy ended up at the nurses apartment as that's where the crying woman (who the curly haired man was trying to find) used to live. He looked the right age to be her (curly sad woman's) son.. Have I made that up?? I might have just imagined that bit!

NishiNoUsagi · 09/06/2013 23:51

Right, I'll try that again now I've got the cheat sheet for the character's names!

I wondered if creepy boy Victor could be something to do with Simon and Adele?

SomeDizzyWhore1804 · 10/06/2013 08:12

Is anyone else having to sit on their hands not to google spoilers?! I hate that there is a Wikipedia page on it- I could weaken and find out at any time!!! Gah!!!

LizTerrine · 10/06/2013 08:48

Is the guy who stabbed Lucy some kind of Angel of Death - could she possibly be one of les revenants and he is killing them once more?

LizTerrine · 10/06/2013 08:49

Also, Adele's daughter is old enough to be Simon's rather than her new partner's.

VivaLeBeaver · 10/06/2013 08:52

Yes, I think Simon died while Adele was pregnant.

Queen0fFeckingEverything · 10/06/2013 08:54

Nah, surely the girl that came down the stairs when Adele was howling at the door was older than 4?

Queen0fFeckingEverything · 10/06/2013 08:56

Oh but hang on, they didn't all die in the same coach crash though?

spiderlight · 10/06/2013 09:00

I was hoping there'd be a thread on this - wasn't it fab? Very creepy.

VivaLeBeaver · 10/06/2013 09:07

Yes, they've all died at different times. So Simon died I think 11 years ago.

Queen0fFeckingEverything · 10/06/2013 09:11

Oh right, that threw me a bit, I though from reading an article about the series in the Guardian last week that they'd all died in the same accident so was getting a bit confused by it all.

I'm with it now as much as I'm ever 'with' anything that has a plot thicker than Balamory

Badgerwife · 10/06/2013 09:14

We taped this and will probably be watching tonight, I can't wait, I love a scary creepy ghost story. DH is very excited as he heard about it on his music forum a couple of months back and didn't know it was going to come to C4. He loves subtitled French shows (thankfully only the decent ones get shown in this country!), always watches Spiral, which I find too depressing.

Spero · 10/06/2013 09:42

Yes, v confusing in that everything I read before watching said it was just the people in the coach crash coming back - but the curly headed one saw his gravestone saying he had died in 2002 plus the little boy wasnt even on the coach but ghostily hanging about on the road, thus contributing to the crash.

Plus the old man who tied up his returned daughter (?) then killed himself (?) presumably has some very dodgy secret.

So v confused now.

The problem is that I rarely just watch TV anymore, usually doing something else at the same time but no way is my French good enough to understand without subtitles so I probably missed most of it, hence major confusion.

Sunnywithshowers · 10/06/2013 09:56

I thought the old man's returnee was a wife who died years ago.

Did anyone else notice that the firemen said they'd found no bodies at the burned-out building?

gazzalw · 10/06/2013 09:58

I fell asleep watching it so will have catch-up.....brilliant though from what I saw of it

AnneEyhtMeyer · 10/06/2013 10:40

I think I'm going to have make notes so I keep up with the plot!

Definitely think the old man's returnee was his long-dead wife. She looked about half his age. Yes, Sunny, I noticed that about no bodies too. I was Shock.

I read something about there being murders seven years ago and then nothing, but they start up again now, so I guess the murderer in the underpass was a returnee.

I did wonder if Victor was an abortion, but I think that's unlikely as he would then be the only one who had aged.

It really is a great idea for a programme. I love it!

Spero · 10/06/2013 10:54

I think I have got very confused by starting off on assumption that all the returnees were killed in the crash. That makes much more sense re old man if that was his WIFE returning, not daughter.

The only way I got through the Bridge was making myself watch it on ipad in bed with no other distractions so can see will have to try same strategy for this.

teejwood · 10/06/2013 11:13

Watched this last night, on my own and in the dark!
Found the ads really broke the tension more than once, which is a shame as it would have been so much more effective in a straight run.
Still, thank you C4 for bringing this to our screens and brilliant to see so many familiar NNs on the thread Grin

Agree that the people all died at different times and in different ways and that the tunnel murderer is a returnee, too.

Was the barmaid a pros, though? There seemed to be a line that she was sorry it hadn't worked this time, when speaking with Camille's dad, so I got the impression maybe she was a medium or something? If that's the case, maybe that is why the returned tunnel killer went after her - that she would be able to spot them and figure out what was going on?

notahappycamper · 10/06/2013 11:14

Why did the firemen not find a body in the old man's house?
Who is the little boy?
Is the stabber one of the returned?

I love when there are so many questions to be answered.

I agree with someone up post who said this will take over from The Fall for me!

teejwood · 10/06/2013 11:24

Oh - and re the nurse and Victor. She seems too nice to be involved in a murder. Neither of them (she and Victor) seemed to recognise the other. The returnees all turn up looking as they did when they died, so Victor had to be that age when he died and isn't the ghost of a miscarriage/abortion. So it looks like maybe there is not a link between these two.

What if the boy did die a long time ago and his family either moved away or were killed at the same time. Perhaps he has no-one to return to? So if you were a child with no-one to look out for you, would you maybe seek out a calm, caring person who you think might look after you and protect you? That is what I think has happened here.

As for Mr Costa - do we think he somehow has been calling up the dead for a while? It was weird that the butterfly broke out of its case in his home and also he had pictures of at least some of the returnees.
Where that does not tie in though - obviously Victor had returned before, as he was in the road during the coach crash - so maybe Mr Costa had been trying to call up his wife for a while and at that point 4 years ago he managed to call up Victor instead; but Victor had nowhere to go, so it all went quiet again until now? Then Costa is horrified by the reality of what he has done, tries to destroy the evidence/his resurrected wife and then tops himself.

And probably most of that speculation is utter merde - roll on next Sunday!

teejwood · 10/06/2013 11:27

camper maybe you can't find a body of a returnee as they are already dead - hard to have two corpses?! Or Victor seemed able to slip through doors etc - maybe the returnees can dematerialise or something and the wife was able to get away. Maybe she stayed in place long enough to completely guilt-trip Costa into taking his own life, particularly if he was responsible for her death the first time around?
