Am SO annoyed with Game Of Thrones!

I watched the most recent episode last night so if you haven't then THERE WILL BE SPOILERS!!!

The ending pissed me off no end! I started with OMG, then when to WTF and ended up with "fuckin hell" on repeat! Hmm Angry

I now have no real idea what is going on, who I'm meant to invest in or generally where it is going now. I get SO fed up of getting attached to characters in it and thn they suddenly get hacked to bits!

I'm not really sure I want to bother watching it any more - it seems to flit from one thing to another - dyre wolves, dragons, spirit walking in animals, blah blah blah. I will be mega pissed off if I watch all the series and in the end everybody dies!

Am I alone in being pissed off? Confused

:)

This is why I stopped reading the books at around the point the series is at now, and why I didn't even bother with the TV program.

It does seem like the best way to do an epic seven book series is to start a story off, then introduce some new characters, kill some of the main protagonists and take the story in another direction. Never really having a proper plan for where the story is going an whenever you get bored of writing just kill some people and start again! Hmm

It's how he writes.

He has given several interviews about how he had to kill Ned because he was risking becoming a hero, and that he killed Robb because it was getting predictable and people were bonding with him.

I have no doubt that everyone likeable will die by the end.

It will be a turning point for a lot of people though I think. Especially people who aren't into the Bran storyline and watched it for the Starks.

BoyMeetsWorld · 04/06/2013 21:06

Couldn't agree more. But to top it all, I'm pregnant at the moment & ended up in hysterics that she got stabbed through the stomach & the baby killed. I was livid with DH for letting me watch as he's read all the books but he swears that didn't happen in the books. Either way I think it was gratuitous, horrific and nauseating. I love the programme but may have been seriously put off

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 04/06/2013 21:13

I am reading the books and I've just read The Red Wedding part, it left me like this Shock

Your dh is right, Robb's wife doesn't go to the wedding.

I've only seen a few episode's of series 1, but I'm not sure I'll stick with it. The books on the other hand ........

If I invest hours of my life on GoT and I find out that Jon Snow cops it, I will have a SHIT FIT.

Trills · 04/06/2013 21:16

YABU

It is brilliant writing.

That is just how crooked Roose Bolton is.

Walder Frey is risking being damned in the eyes of the Gods by breaking the hospitality agreement, but he doesn't give a shit because he is fed up of not being treated as he thinks he deserves.

Trills · 04/06/2013 21:17

I can understand why it might be upsetting for a pregnant person to watch that particular bit - in the books she was not there (and not pregnant, and not the same person).

katykuns · 04/06/2013 21:21

I remember loads of people saying they wouldn't watch it after Ned was killed, but they are still watching Grin

Trills · 04/06/2013 21:30

They can stop watching if they like. If they miss Joffrey's wedding they'll be very sad though...

CheckpointCharlie · 04/06/2013 21:33

I think you have to read the books to appreciate the enormity of the story! if you have a spare year or two it it so worth it and I know exactly what is going on now is the programmes. Or I do when they don't change the fecking story.... Grin

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 04/06/2013 21:34

Oh you little tease Trills, I haven't got that far yet.

I keep seeing hints about Cat too.

Thurlow · 04/06/2013 21:34

Ilike - ditto, plus I have SO many theories about Jon that I'll just be seriously narked if all my cleverness is ruined.

OP, I imagine you're definitely not alone in being annoyed! I was almost more interested in seeing the reaction of people who haven't read the book than I was in seeing the Red Wedding itself.

The thing is, though, Martin has no interest in is readers getting attached to or investing in the characters. It's all about the story of Westeros and the game that is being played for its throne, which means he is going to kill off whoever he sees fit. I also saw that article about why he killed Robb and he definitely wants to challenge standard conventions, so the murdered hero's son will not get to avenge his father's death etc.

The Red Wedding is kind of the moment when you realise that Martin is willing and capable of killing off characters and storylines without a backwards glance, and I think you either decide for certain that it's not for you, or you finally accept it and read/watch knowing you shouldn't get too attached to any character in particular. Though I did start feeling like that when he cut Jaime's hand off...

PS, to stop me starting another thread, I was talking with DP last night while watching it and realised that the male talent in the show is far less impressive than the female. And I realised this because I was looking at Roose Bolton and thinking... yep, I think I would Blush

Thurlow · 04/06/2013 21:35

Trills Wink

Trills · 04/06/2013 21:36

This is not a spoilers thread so I won't.

PollyPlummer · 04/06/2013 21:41

GRRM didn't just get bored of Robb and Cat he had it planned from the beginning.
Lots of good people die in the books, as they do in real life.

Its reality fantasy or fantilty Wink

PollyPlummer · 04/06/2013 21:46

Oh and Thurlow yes I would too.

jellycake · 04/06/2013 21:48

I knew the Red Wedding was coming up but I was still OMG but Jon and Arya are my fav both in the books and the series. I am ploughing reading through the books but will admit to checking chapter headings to make sure they are still alive and kicking

Thurlow · 04/06/2013 21:56

Hurrah!! I thought I was going mad, he's in The Falls but not particularly attractive in that. And of course Bolton's an arsehole. But at the wedding he had the whole mean and moody arsehole thing going and it made me go a little wibbly.

Btw, does anyone know if the young lad who is torturing Theon has a name? (Maybe so as not to spoil it for the non-readers, if he is who he is supposed to be from the books just nod or something)

Oh, and jelly, I do that to, especially if the chapter ends on a cliffhanger. Even though I did that in book one and accidentally learnt that Ned dies by skipping ahead to a Jon chapter.

PollyPlummer · 04/06/2013 21:57

He is called The Boy. Wink Wink

PollyPlummer · 04/06/2013 21:58

oh sorry yes a nod

Thurlow · 04/06/2013 22:09

Thanks! He might be the one character who is completely different to how I imagined. I thought he was supposed to be older, and ugly?

PollyPlummer · 04/06/2013 22:23

Yes, I think he was supposed to be big, bulky and ugly. I love how the actor portrays him though. Good casting choice I think. I would.

MegBusset · 04/06/2013 22:27

I really fancy just about all the men in GoT Blush

ThatVikRinA22 · 04/06/2013 22:31

i am going to watch again tonight.....but i was just sat open mouthed and going WTAF????????????

BoulevardOfBrokenSleep · 04/06/2013 22:51

I don't have GoT on my telly, I''m guessing they've just done the Red Wedding then?
