Am SO annoyed with Game Of Thrones!

I watched the most recent episode last night so if you haven't then THERE WILL BE SPOILERS!!!

The ending pissed me off no end! I started with OMG, then when to WTF and ended up with "fuckin hell" on repeat! Hmm Angry

I now have no real idea what is going on, who I'm meant to invest in or generally where it is going now. I get SO fed up of getting attached to characters in it and thn they suddenly get hacked to bits!

I'm not really sure I want to bother watching it any more - it seems to flit from one thing to another - dyre wolves, dragons, spirit walking in animals, blah blah blah. I will be mega pissed off if I watch all the series and in the end everybody dies!

Am I alone in being pissed off? Confused

:)

I actually find the tortutre scenes with Alfie Allen, are worse than last night,

the belly/baby was disturbing though.

PollyPlummer · 05/06/2013 09:20

I didn't like the scene where they killed baby Barra. We didn't read it directly in the book. Seeing it was horrible.

nipersvest · 05/06/2013 09:24

why have they changed robb's wife's character so much from the book?, anyone know?

HighJinx · 05/06/2013 09:33

It's interesting how people feel about this. I feel like the red wedding made me invest more in GOT.

I love that GRRM doesn't write to a formula and if he is prepared to kill of Robb and Catelyn then anything could happen. So it makes me want to read on and find out what does happen.

I thought the scene was very well done on TV, as is the series as a whole. I did read that the writers have had to change some things to fit as much as they can into the series.

PsammeadPaintedTheLion · 05/06/2013 09:41

I can't imagine seeing the red wedding before having read the books. Shock, or what?

It'scertainly one of the more disturbing moments of the story so far. I did think the stabbing of Robb's wife was unnecessary.

Thurlow · 05/06/2013 09:58

I think they changed his wife in the show because they needed more screen time for Robb - he doesn't actually appear much in the books - and they wanted us to invest more. But overall she, and his book wife, aren't important to the story so they were able to change her.

PollyPlummer · 05/06/2013 10:01

I really think they did it justice too. Not too sure why they changed Jeyne so much or why she died. Unless it was a way to shock book readers, there was a bit of speculation around Jeyne being pregnant. This could have been GRRM saying nope.
Or more likely it was HBO living up to its gory reputation.

Bollocks sorry for multiple posts

QueenofDreams · 05/06/2013 10:05

haha, I've read the books, so I wasn't shocked. Although as others have said Robb's wife was not pregnant and not at the wedding. Also in the books Catelyn actually kills one of Walder Frey's sons before they kill her.

I love the reactions caught on video. It's obviously people who've read the books filming those who haven't

I also felt they didn't show that some of Robb's bannermen end up held hostage by the Freys and that influences the plot as well. And Roose Bolton really is an arsehole, but his son takes the biscuit!

lissieloo · 05/06/2013 10:09

I understood why Robb married her, better in the series. It made his fucking ridiculous decision to alienate a notoriously cranky, vindictive and easily offended but ultimately powerful, ally more believable.

I sobbed through the credits, seeing it brought to life was pretty brutal. Robb HAD to die though, he was great on the battlefield, but as we learnt from Robert, being a good soldier doesn't make you a good king. His political decisions were awful. All of his poor decisions led to the twins.

QueenofDreams · 05/06/2013 10:14

Polly, in the books it's made clear that Jeyne is not pregnant. I can't remember at what point though as it's been a while

octopus the the torture of Theon is a whole lot worse in the books than in the TV series IMO, even if some of it does happen 'off screen'. There's a reason the sigil of the Bolton's is the Flayed Man.

I can't wait to see the Purple Wedding on screen Grin I don't think anyone will be disappointed with that Grin

I personally think they changed Robb's wife so that they could turn it into a romance/true love. Whereas in the book he gets told that Bran and Rickon have been killed by Theon and Jeyne 'comforts him' in his distress. Having inherited his father's honour he marries her the very next day. The way it is on TV, makes people invest more in it, or feel more sympathetic to it at least. I did think the whole stabbing Talisa in the belly thing was too much though.

Book related SPOILERS below:

The one thing that's annoying me about the series at the moment is that they're not showing that Arya and Jon are both wargs as well. In the book Arya knows that her mother is dead because she has one of her wolf dreams and sees her mother's corpse through Nymeria.

QueenofDreams · 05/06/2013 10:17

ugh, rogue apostrophe! Boltons, not Bolton's.

PsammeadPaintedTheLion · 05/06/2013 10:24

QueenofDreams, I just laughed at the guy who falls onto the floor in that video, and then turns to the camera and says in a small voice 'you guys knew about this?'

Well yes. Yes we did. And no, it didn't make it less awful.

RussiansOnTheSpree · 05/06/2013 10:27

motherofvikings Stop watching. You're obviously not that fussed as you haven't read the books.

Thurlow · 05/06/2013 10:29

Queen, I'm just reading the bits later about that has happened to Theon (not spoilers for anyone watching the show, as they've moved it forward a few series). Just... eurgh. Far more violent/sadistic than anything they've shown on the telly.

Yes, the lack of Jon and Arya dreaming through their wolves is confusing me, as I now don't know whether it will be important.

PsammeadPaintedTheLion · 05/06/2013 10:30

RussiansOnTheSpree · 05/06/2013 10:31

Thurlow Orell made it clear the other week that he knew what Jon is. So it is still a thing. I think at this point Jon was barely seeing through Summer's eyes anyway - it kicks in more strongly once he is back at the wall.

PollyPlummer · 05/06/2013 10:37

Queen it was more of a hair brained theory. All due to the dize of her hips Grin Cat noticed they were wide snd Jaime thought they were narrow do some people thought they had been switched. Obviously not now.

QueenofDreams · 05/06/2013 11:19

Russians in the book he sees through his wolf when he's still with Qoren halfhand. He sees Orell's eagle and the wildling encampment through Ghost's eyes. The wildlings tell him outright that he's a warg.

psammead that guy made me laugh as well. I thought the woman hiding under her blanket was the funniest thing though.

polly honestly you could still be right - even though someone (can't remember who) says outright that she's not pregnant, they could just be lying to protect her, so who knows you might just find out she is later. Although I guess I'd doubt it now as they've conclusively killed off her equivalent in the TV series I think she'll just slope off and not really feature any more in the books (not that she was a massive character to start with)

I can't recall who mentioned having theories about Jon. I have theories about him too. Without wanting to say too much - are your theories regarding his parentage?

Thurlow · 05/06/2013 11:35

That was me about Jon. And yes, those theories are about his parentage. A bit of careful Googling (because I'm only half-way through ADWD part 1) seems to suggest that everyone thinks this about his parentage too though!

RussiansOnTheSpree · 05/06/2013 11:35

Queen - but he doesn't really believe it. Not until it starts happening regularly with Ghost (actually, I'm not sure he really believes it right up until where we are now. Although I imagine he is on the verge of finding it hand! Grin ) My point was - it has been raised in the telly too. Just, obliquely. Rickon is a warg also and that hasn't been raised in the telly - but I think he and Arya are maybe a bit too young to be focussed enough, although by where we are now Arya totally knows. And she sort of knew long before - but not like Bran does. I don't know if this means Bran is more powerful or if his powers got awakened sooner because of his accident or because he is closer to whatever is causing them.

Jeyne's mum says she isn't pregnant, she tells Jaime she gave her moon tea every day. Doesn't mean it's true of course.

There is one character who definitely had a shag and hasn't had moon tea because it all kicked off right after she thought hmmm. Better brew up some moon tea. That might be plot relevant soon.

My own theories are that hardly any of the people in play are actually the children of the men they think they are.

RussiansOnTheSpree · 05/06/2013 11:36

The children of the men they think they are the children of, I mean.

RussiansOnTheSpree · 05/06/2013 11:37

Thurlow - yes. I don't think there is anyone who doesn't think that.
