Watched it last night. Tis good, but disturbing. Gillian Anderson very good. Jamie Dornan scary. Anyone else see it?

OP posts:
IndridCold · 21/05/2013 14:55

Fiderer wasn't he the policeman who was working on the shootings with the guy who got shot?

Fiderer · 21/05/2013 15:08

Indrid That is what I first thought, that I'd seen him in the police station. Then when he was in the Monroe scene I thought "Heh? What's he doing there?" The corruption thing may reveal more.

How sleazy was the Monroe Air scene?

wannabedomesticgoddess · 21/05/2013 15:43

Yes, I am confused by why that policeman was with the Monroes. Corrupt?

The head officer who has a beard, GA was at his house last week....I think hes being leaned on by coke heads dad to clear his name too. So it would tie in.

Not sure why its called The Fall. Keep thinking of The Falls Road which is in Belfast, and thats where the murder of the drugs guy took place. Play on words maybe?

I think GA said she had judged his character wrong because she only ever intended it to be a one night stand, and thought he was the type, but then he wanted her number and sent that photo AND turned up at the crime scene. Too much for her.

Also, Squirted's post on page 5 is brilliant. Exactly how I was seeing the whole thing!

Fiderer · 21/05/2013 15:47

He could of course be pretending to be corrupt - he did say "I'm working" on the phone. Maybe he genuinely was.

wannabedomesticgoddess · 21/05/2013 15:54

I was going to put in corrupt or undercover, but undercover didnt seem the right word...but you have said what I was thinking :o pretending to be undercover.

wannabedomesticgoddess · 21/05/2013 15:54

Pretending to be corrupt rather.

ZolaBuddleia · 21/05/2013 16:24

I'm maybe the lone voice here, but I thought it lacked tension, some of the performances were patchy and there were some really lazy plot turns.

gazzalw · 21/05/2013 16:34

What type of lazy plot turns? The problem is that this type of killer thriller is such a mainstream part of TV these days that it's probably quite difficult to come up with something that doesn't seem lazy...

ZolaBuddleia · 21/05/2013 16:57

The coppers pulling up outside the house and and going to the trouble of leaving her a message so the writer could bank a bit of guilt for them for later. Surely if they'd realised there could be a murderer breaking in they'r not only ring to say "there could be a murderer in your house", surely on finding no answer they'd go in and see.

Not giving John Lynch's character any justification for demanding they don't link the crimes, a hot shot like GA would have questioned his reasons more thoroughly.

The central casting type journo hectoring her for info.

The sister walking up the stairs to find the corpse, you'd assume they'd gone out and you'd ring them. Although I did like the unceremonious dumping of the baby on the bed. Grin

The whole thing for me felt too slow and flabby, and not slow in a Shadowline way, where there was constant tension. And that scene in the police station with the gum and the interrogation were like something that would have been in The Bill.

wintera · 21/05/2013 16:59

Is there some sort of romantic history between GA and the beardy boss? When she went to see him at his house he seemed quite uncomfortable around her, especially when his wife was at the window I thought.

cocolepew · 21/05/2013 17:22

Me and work collegues think there is definitely old history between GA and beardy boss .

ZolaBuddleia · 21/05/2013 18:16

Judging by beardy boss's permanently anguished expression she gave him crabs.

gazzalw · 21/05/2013 18:17

"the tangled webs we weave" keeps popping into my mind, the more I think about this programme and the lead characters....

HeavenlyYoni · 21/05/2013 20:06

I don't understand the woman with the baby in special care unit. What's her connection?

ZolaBuddleia · 21/05/2013 20:11

She has long dark hair, she'll be discovered stuffed into an incubator during one of those veeeeerrrrryyyyy long overhead shots.

Fiderer · 21/05/2013 20:15

I thought there was a "look" too. Apart from the theme of babies, caring, feeling responsible for our actions (the mum said something about it all being her fault) - maybe that Sally the mum nurse seemed a bit satisfied with having everything under control. Whereas we know differently.

insicknessandinhealth · 21/05/2013 20:26

Maybe it's The Fall as in the mistakes he is making along the way. It seems really odd to me that he is so careful about his killings but so careless at the same time. If he was ever a suspect his phone, camera, computer and sketchbook and the things he has taken from the crime scenes are not well hidden at all. It's almost casual, like it's a hobby! I also like the behind the scenes bits you never normally see like the loading of the body into storage at the morgue, people doing facepacks whilst cleaning their bathrooms etc. I wondered about why she looked in the bin in the hotel room too - possibly one of the things GA asked her to do? It seemed so specific and I don't think you'd look in a bathroom bin under normal circs plus wouldn't the hotel cleaners have emptied it?! Defford think his little girl has seen his sketchbook and I think he will now realise that. Something she will say will give the wife clues somehow I think. Great series.

wannabedomesticgoddess · 21/05/2013 20:49

Dont psychologists say that some killers want to be caught. So hes documenting everything because in his twisted mind he wants people to discover how clever and organised and detailed he was. How successful he was to get into these womens houses etc.

Ultimately it will all be his downfall, but he doesnt see it that way.

Maybe?

wintera · 21/05/2013 21:00

I don't think the woman in the SCBU is connected as such. Her scene was intercut with the Victim's Dad identifying his daughter's body and crying "My baby" and wanting to touch his baby so I think its just to show the parallels of him losing his child and the SCBU Mum caring for her poorly new baby.

StellaNova · 21/05/2013 21:27

I thought GA asked the cop to empty the bin too, and I also thought she (the cop) did a kind of "blimey, three?!" (or two or however many there were) face, but I may well have been projecting Grin

SquirtedPerfumeUpNoseInBoots · 21/05/2013 21:49

Oh god yes. I had forgotten that. Last week, he left his notebook under the little girls pillow when his wife got into that bed with him! Of course she has seen his drawings!

This carelessness fits with the wife noticing that the loft hatch hadn't been closed properly, and the babysitter finding the lock of hair in the computer desk drawer. And an adult necklace on a small girl is a bit obvious. Surely the mum will question that as the little girl is bound to want to wear it to school.

Do you know I never even considered the title? Obviously it must be someones Fall, but the way this programme has two strands makes me think it must be both the killers fall, but also GA's. Or maybe the killer and the police in general.

Was beardy chief con given the job to make sure the first suspect was discounted?

PuppyMonkey · 21/05/2013 21:52

Isn't it called the Fall because of the Fall's Road in Belfast then? Confused

wigglesrock · 21/05/2013 21:59

I don't think the name has anything to do with the Falls Road. They're being very careful re lots of problematic NI issues re religion, politics. I don't think they're going to call the series after the Falls Smile

I think they are both going to be each others downfall if you know what I mean - I think she's going to catch him, but her career is going to end up fucked.

I also thought GA had asked the officer to empty the bin in the hotel bathroom.

SquirtedPerfumeUpNoseInBoots · 21/05/2013 22:02

Don't think so Puppy. Why not Laganside for the Hilton then, or Botanic for the gardens they were in? Or Grin

SquirtedPerfumeUpNoseInBoots · 21/05/2013 22:06

Now I didn't get that impression with the bin. GA isnt going to broadcast that to a junior officer I wouldn't have thought, especially when she can reasonably have expected hotel housekeeping to have done it already. She's been out of the hotel all day by that point.

I thought the PC was sort of tidying when getting her bathroom things for her, saw what was in the bin and flushed it.

Bad PC. Pee, poo and paper only please.
