Watched it last night. Tis good, but disturbing. Gillian Anderson very good. Jamie Dornan scary. Anyone else see it?

Very rude!

wigglesrock · 05/06/2013 12:51

Is the second series definitely being filmed here? It's just when the pathologist and GA were talking in the bar - the pathologist mentioned a previous case that I had assumed had "made" GA. I thought the 2nd series would have something to do with that - sort of like Silence of the Lambs type.

TooTabooToBoo · 05/06/2013 12:51

The cat comment in the note referred to Sarah's cat, he obv killed it. Suppose it was a way of showing he knew details only the killer would know to prove he wasn't a fake.

I thought the interview with the survivor followed/intertwined with the actual murder of the latest victim, had it clear in the viewer's mind just how terrified she would be, the thoughts going through her mind, the desperation and fear.

Then her friend fighting for her and failing, god it was hard to watch, I felt sick.

Re the woman in counselling, I think this shows his massive power trip, his desire to control, revenge on the husband, him feeling untouchable and also righting a wrong (Sarah's baby)

Agree that the daughter's drawing will offer forensic evidence in some way.

hollyisalovelyname · 05/06/2013 17:22

Aitch how have you seen all the series?

ShipwreckedAndComatose · 05/06/2013 17:27

Aitch has ways and means! Well known on the Dr Who threads for generally keeping everyone from getting too anxious Smile

EuphemiaLennox · 05/06/2013 17:37

I'm gripped by this series.

I love the GA character, although tough female cop thing is hardly new I think the particulars of her character are interesting, well drawn and excellently portrayed.

I really like the relationships between the women in the series. The pathologist and GA having s shared understanding whilst being utterly professional.

I also did not interpret the police women's emptying of GAs bin and telling her as blackmail; I interpreted it as a shared understanding between them that GA's personal life was no one elses business and she was helping her maintain privacy without judgement. That's why GA promoted her. I thought their relationship is interesting as women's friendships, professional support and admiration is rarely depicted in drama. These types of relationships between women are just not usually part of drama.

I Find the killers character more problematic. I think his broody intensity and his lack of empathetic engagement unsettlingly, but he is meant to be a loving husband, father and a counsellor?? How come his wife, kids, colleagues and clients have not noticed that he hardly says 2 words or notices or cares whether theyre there or not?? His wife (until the last episode) carried on like they were the happiest little family ever apparently unaware that he was like a piece of cold stone! He's the most unlikely counsellor.

I think they needed to mark the differnce aspects of his character more clearly, show how he can pretend to be all these things without any of it being real. He seems to go around acting like a creepy serial killer all the time without any one noticing and all thinking he's a nice guy. That doesn't quite work for me.

I thought the scene in the last episode where the cop shot himself in front of his boss, was just brilliant. The realisation, slowly, as the scene built that he was either going to shoot his boss or himself, and then the shock on his bosses face, I felt really portrayed a realistic and therefore shocking actions to a shocking event. Like the boss at the start at that scene there was no indication that was going to happen, so we were feeling the shock the boss was experiencing.

And then GA rushing in being the one who did what needed to be done. Fab.

Also Aitch, telling people what doesn't happen is a spoiler.

MrsBertMacklin · 05/06/2013 17:40

Have we talked about the fact that it's now obviously the pathologist who's leaking details of the investigation to the papers? First the detail about the body that GA specifically told the team to keep quiet about and in the last episode, the fact that the PCs were at the victims house prior to her murder.

TooTabooToBoo · 05/06/2013 18:05

No, GA told the pathologist that the answer phone message could have been heard as she was being killed. The newspaper story only said "police at victim's house 24 hours earlier" (paraphrased but 24 hours was stated) So I think that was a trick to make us believe the pathologist is leaking info.

Ha, I'm in a rather better position than you to comment on what is and isn't a spoiler. By definition, you won't know until next week. The only thing i've commented on is the commissioning process, about which both posters were wrong. ish.

Pathologist is the attackers kind of woman. Dark haired, pretty professional woman. Will she be the next victim? Or GA?
The poster who said the killer skulking around at home and nobody noticing was a tad unbelievable is absolutely spot on.

EuphemiaLennox · 05/06/2013 19:02

The you're both wrong comment seemed to me to be directed at the discussion about whether this case will be solved this series or not.

If you just meant the commissioning process that wasn't clear to me, or others.

Not quite sure though why you're feeling the need to be rude towards people because they like a TV show and want to discuss it. Odd.

Anyway...yes maybe he has changed since the first murder, his behaviour at work must have recently changed as he wouldn't have stayed in his job long behavin as he did last episode.

His wife just seemed to be hugging him all the time and telling him what a great bloke he was, and I was thinking 'err, he hasn't spoken, responded or looked at you once and you breezily carrying on like you're so happy together??' she's seems to have clicked now though that something's not right.

MrsBertMacklin · 05/06/2013 19:07

I still think it's the pathologist leaking (being clever about how much she does, because she knows she'd be found out if too specific?). Purely because they've put a mid-player actress in that role!

trapenfold · 05/06/2013 19:45

I saw the first and I enjoyed it but I think it's a bit too slick and not very realistic, unlike The Killing.

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 05/06/2013 19:50

Euphemia, i've never posted a spoiler in my life, and i'm absolutely best placed to comment on that. so anyone accusing me of that should just relax... btw not sure why the people who were posting about it not being resolved aren't getting jumped on, though, as that's a definite spoiler if true.

EuphemiaLennox · 05/06/2013 19:54

That was speculation wasn't it? Rather than someone in the know saying they knew stuff.

Anyhow, I believe you've never posted a spoiler if you say so, no reason not to believe you, just seemed like you knew stuff and were hinting. Obviously I got the wrong end of the stick. Apols.

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 05/06/2013 20:01

Apols accepted. The thread is only entitled The Fall, remember. Not 'Meet here to discuss how good The Fall is, or we will accuse you of maliciously dropping spoilers and call you rude'. Time was that on MN if someone said that they didn't like something, those who did bothered to back their own opinions before running people off the thread.

TooTabooToBoo · 05/06/2013 20:05

didn't GA profile the killer early on, said he most likely tried and failed with his first attempt (the student) and went away, made himself stronger and then tried again with success?

wintera · 05/06/2013 20:13

Surely its not a spoiler to say its supposed to end on a cliffhanger? It was reported on digital spy when it was announced there was a second series. A cliffhanger could mean anything at all. Personally I've no idea how its going to end which is a new one on me. My mates call me Miss Marple cos I usually suss plots out in crime thingies. Quite pleased that this time I've no bloody clue!

wintera · 05/06/2013 20:17

Aitch - just out of interest - what is the process in which they re-commission a second series?

FairPhyllis · 05/06/2013 20:26

The problem with it as a show is that it is rather self-consciously trying to make a Feminism 101 point about violence against women and sexism through the medium of displaying lots of dead or unconscious naked women for us to gawp at.

I'm staying with it because I'm interested in it as a cultural product that talks about violence against women, but I'm finding it very heavy going and frankly if any man I knew was keen on watching it I'd be pretty fucking disturbed and alarmed.

Personally I think it's a bit of a wasted opportunity given the talents involved. I would have preferred to see that documentary about rape the other night repeated five times in The Fall's slot.

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 05/06/2013 20:29

it depends... thing is i can't really say without making something clear that i don't want to make clear. you'll see next week. Wink

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 05/06/2013 20:31

OMG FairPhyllis do you mean the one about the centre in Manchester? that was the finest bit of tv i've seen in ages.

wintera · 05/06/2013 20:49

Ok . . . Well I'll find out what you mean next week then . . . Intriguing . . .
