Watched it last night. Tis good, but disturbing. Gillian Anderson very good. Jamie Dornan scary. Anyone else see it?

Note to self. Don't watch it and then spend significant amount of time befor bed discussing it. Slept badly and woke up at 5.15 am, having had a nightmare about it.Sad

wintera · 04/06/2013 09:05

I told my sister in law to watch it on catch up etc after assuring her that it wasn't bloody or gory which she doesn't like. I said it was creepy and psychological but not gory. Then last night he goes berserk with a pair of scissors. Thanks for that!

ifancyashandy · 04/06/2013 09:43

He was feeling 'omnipresent' (hence the mickey taking / standing up - physically - during the disciplinary) and then he kills a pregnant woman...

His 'perfect' murder has been tainted and he's confused and scared - hence the extreme risk taking / escalation.

I don't think he wants to attack GA. The wife he is counselling is next on his list - he's got rid of the husband. But I think she'll survive and that will be his downfall.

BaconAndAvocado · 04/06/2013 10:24

Don't want this series to end! Script, direction, acting all excellent.

If he doesn't get caught though, this will be one very unhappy household Angry

ScrambledSmegs · 04/06/2013 10:34

Is she his next target? I thought he'd be more interested in GA, and the wife is someone he wants to 'rescue' albeit in his weird fucked-up sort of way. He has a major madonna/whore issue going on, is how I've been reading it.

He's such a shit dad though. I mean, I don't quite know why I would be surprised that a sexual sadist and serial killer is a crappy father, but it continues to upset me, that he's the reason his DD's messed up and he just doesn't care Sad

BoreOfWhabylon · 04/06/2013 11:22

I am sure he is planning GA to be his next victim. I said up there that when he was watching her press conference with the sound turned down he was fantasising about her in a dark wig.

And... he has a dark wig - on the mannequin!!

He is spiralling out of control now. Can't wait for next week when it all comes crashing down.

lurcherlover · 04/06/2013 13:17

I don't think the wife is his target. He likes strong, professional types. He wanted her husband put away because of the threat he made to Paul's wife/kids, but I actually think he wants to help the wife, and it's meant to be the side of his character that shows he has a shred of humanity.

Lottapianos · 04/06/2013 13:27

Things I loved about this episode:
GA's slight smile when she noticed the blow up dolphin beside her in the swimming pool changing room
GA's lack of reaction when female copper told her she was gay
GA's icy cold 'that would have been a mistake' when DCI Beardy was practically falling at her feet and saying how he would have given up his family 'for her' Hmm
GA and the pathologist drinking glasses of whisky at the bar instead of girly spritzers or similar

The last 10 minutes were really horrendous though. I can't decide whether the violence is gratuitous or not - I also felt so relieved when I heard a male voice come in the door with her. Felt absolutely sick thinking about how terrified she would have been being tied up upstairs and knowing that her friend/lover was being beaten black and blue downstairs, and wondering what the hell was going to happen to her. Yes I know it's not real Smile

ifancyashandy · 04/06/2013 13:47

I don't think he's going to attack GA. He knows her via the media coverage. With the others, he's hunted them, found them. GA is far too presented to him. But take the point on Liz equalling an emotional outlet (since he's a pretty cold fish to his wife and daughter).

Agreed, the last 10 mins where horrifying. Had to switch it off and catchup this morning (I fit the model of his type... And yes, I too know its a drama!)

Fedupofdiets · 04/06/2013 14:34

Couldn't sleep last night fearing somebody was going to strangle me! Very edgy and brutally violent but strangely gripping. Not been so hooked since Homeland finished.

waikikamookau · 04/06/2013 16:02

but GA is the ultimate professional woman. i think he will be intersted in hr.
he wants to save the woman from domestic violence, and is not interested in killing her but he wants to cleanse the professional woman. He has an excuse for being in that area though, surely?
I was scared for her when she came back to the hotel, and her door swung ever so slowly, shut and then she lay on the bed. scared

I thought olsen was killed by accomplices of the man who was arrested by olsen, for what I can't remember. I know where you live, was what he said to him. the drugs/girls business has to come out into the open

waikikamookau · 04/06/2013 16:04

and his wife, she worked late didn't she?
what will happen there, will she try and get hold of him or their baby sitter?
and why did the baby sitter get in his car when he hurt her last time, for having the hair.

NeverKnowinglyUnderstood · 04/06/2013 16:42

his wife already knows he isn't working..
she hung up from the babysitter and automatically dialled.
I assume - his work - where she would have been told he wasn't working tonight.
She hasn't checked the loft (on screen) for the naked woman her daughter mentioned.

I think she knows he is up to something and doesn't want to face it.
I think it will also come out that they have lost a baby together.

waikikamookau · 04/06/2013 16:48

oh i missed that bit.

waikikamookau · 04/06/2013 16:48

the naked woman, mannequin, isn't that at the derelict, deserted house now though? although his notebook is in the attic.

LauraPashley · 04/06/2013 17:02

I thought he had cleared out the attic and moved all the stuff to that cottage, so that when the wife finally clicks and listens to the daughter and starts to doubt him, she will look up the attic, we'll think hooray he's had it now....and there will be NOTHING there Grin

wannabedomesticgoddess · 04/06/2013 17:45

The babysitter is obsessed with him. The song he was watching was about him "rain brought me to your door, you pinned me to the floor" or somesuch.

I think the next episode will start with his wife confronting him when he gets home because she knows he wasn't in work...Shock
This show doesn't half make me triple check all doors & windows before heading to bed! Scary scary!

I could be wrong but...

You know at the end when he ran out of the house and there were a group of people in the street, I thought that one of them looked very like the babysitter.

If it was, a witness perhaps?

ifancyashandy · 04/06/2013 18:56

I'm not convinced he'll be after GA. She knows him and his MO. He goes after women where he has the ultimate weapon - surprise.

Good spot re the babysitter and the song!

AvonCallingBarksdale · 04/06/2013 18:57

I think this is incredibly well written and acted. Very, very chilling, and loving GA!

SoTiredAgain · 04/06/2013 19:05

Did he run out of the house or did he come through the back gate? I can't remember. It confused me because he went back through the path but we don't know if he went round the back or into the house (off screen I think) and then one of the people in the group said the door was open so I guess he ran into the house?

Assuming he gets away from this crime scene, I wonder if he will totally lose it and attack the young baby sitter because he will be so desperate for a fix.

The notebook is in his backpack.

ifancyashandy · 04/06/2013 19:08

I think he ran away & the people going in were friends of the couple - they'd got back from the pub earlier, put the music on earlier than the rest. He attacked. Ran. And then they arrived. They were supposed to be there IYSWIM.
