I'm so excited, the new series starts next week Grin. Link

Oh dear I wonder how long THAT will last Grin I don't reckon I could work with Cathryn a bit OCD for me; Sarah Jane seems too nice. Praps I ought to scrub this if they're on here Blush.

renaldo · 27/09/2012 16:39

I love Danny , she is a proper baker, with a real job too. Brendan is joyless and pernicity

flippinada · 27/09/2012 18:35

I've been resisting so far but i can't any more.

Danny is definitely my favourite. I like Brendan too - don't get why some people think he's creepy? I think one of those two will win.

Cathryn - I think she's definitely a lot sharper than she's letting on. Look stage way she argues with Paul.

James and John are good but not quite good enough to win.

Oh, and my DS thinks Paul and Mary have the best job in the world.

flippinada · 27/09/2012 18:36

Look stage = look at the. Bloody smart phone.

flippinada · 27/09/2012 18:52

I feel the need to defend Brendan here. He did say earlier in the series that he helped his sisters out with cooking when their Mum died, and really enjoyed it but he wasn't "allowed" cos such things weren't approved of in his family.

So I reckon it's his way of rebelling and saying up yours.

Saying all that I would love it if Danny wind just cos she seems such a lovely genuine person who also happens to be a great baker.

As you can see, I like this show way too much Grin.

HiHowAreYou · 28/09/2012 07:45

I feel bad for Brendan too, everyone picking on him. Poor chap.
I do prefer Danny myself, but I don't see where he's done anything wrong!

ppeatfruit · 28/09/2012 08:15

No he 's not done anything wrong! Too perfect! I want DANNY TO WIN!!!!!! She's class and has no 'side' to her.

Bilbobagginstummy · 28/09/2012 14:54

Brendan is definitely committed: he's cooking his way through something like 96 different varieties of bread - as a project.
He is very good. But it's TV as well as a baking competition and he's not such good TV - unfortunately for him.

herethereeverywhere · 28/09/2012 16:10

I like Brendan now I follow him on twitter. He is just so lovely and he wants to introduce baking classes into retirement homes. What more do you want? Grin

HazeltheMcWitch · 28/09/2012 17:40

I LOVE Brendan, and don't get all the haterz. He's very passionate, and quite self-contained, but not everyone needs to be blubbing all the time to make good tv.

VikingVagine · 28/09/2012 17:57

I think he comes across really well on tv.

I'd love him to win, but I think he's too good, and that ultimately the judges won't be able to say how well he's progressed blahdyblah and well he will progress in the future.

TheSurgeonsMate · 28/09/2012 18:00

Shock Viking! Should they not weed out people who are TOO GOOD at the research stage?!!

VikingVagine · 28/09/2012 18:33

They need a few really god ones to accentuate the others' progress.

HazeltheMcWitch · 28/09/2012 19:09

C+P'ed from popbitch:

"Ryan (GBBO) initially wanted to go on Masterchef but the form was too hard and he thought he had a better chance on The Bake Off. that's why he appears to know fuck all about baking. because he does. (someone I know met him at an event)"

LetUsPrey · 28/09/2012 20:06

This week's Might Mighty Monk Seal Grin

I still want James to win but unless he improves a lot, I don't think he will.

Jux · 28/09/2012 20:11

I don't know whether popbitch means he does know about baking or he doesn't! Grin

ppeatfruit · 29/09/2012 11:57

But P & M said Ryan's Key Lime Pie was the best they'd ever tasted and it looked amazing; surely the auditions would've weeded out the too good and the no good.
I spose it depends on what they want the show to be like.

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 29/09/2012 12:37

'I can see Brendan winning but I'd be really disappointed if he did. He gives me the impression that he took up baking because he decided he needed a hobby and randomly chose that as it was indoor work with no heavy lifting.'

Shock

Brendan wanted a career in cheffing/baking but 'circumstances' meant that he couldn't. I think he said early in the series that he had to just find a job to make money to support his family, and his dream got away from him.

Seriously, hands off Brendan everyone Grin

ppeatfruit · 29/09/2012 13:11

Okay okay lady!! Grin I guess it's 'cos he's not handsome or youngish and not passionate enough in "a good on T.V. way" maybe?

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 29/09/2012 13:37

I think he's passionate about his cooking, and I like the flashes of his sense of humour that you see every now and then. He's quiet and unassuming; quite an old-fashioned chap.

Having said that, of course I actually want my crush James to win. But he won't, so Brendan's my second choice Smile.

flippinada · 29/09/2012 14:18

I'm sure I read a 'meet the bakers' article for GBBO where Brendan mentioned a contestant who came in every day on the bake off saying how good they were and that they were going to win, but I can't find it anywhere.

Wonder who it was (please not Danny!)

Loving the Mighty Mighty Monk Seal blog, it's hilarious Grin

VikingVagine · 29/09/2012 14:42

Brendon's got a fabulous sense of humour, and yes, he's of a certain age, but he looks like a flipping spring chicken next to Mary.

LetUsPrey · 29/09/2012 15:33

James and his knitwear for the win. Failing that, which looks likely, Brendan to win.

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 29/09/2012 15:56

Lovely James. He can fry my doughnuts any time.

hiviolet · 29/09/2012 16:05

I'd love to read that article if you can find it flippinada
