I take it we are all sitting comfortably, and have the strawberries, cream and champagne at the ready ?

Here's to a fantastic 2 weeks of tennis !

Sampras ?

I was old enough to keep (and did) an Andre Agassi scrapbook, 1st time around !

As you can see, I go for the young pups these days. I just console myself with the fact that I could teach them a thing or 2 about ball skills. WinkGrin

I am a Wimbledon virgin. Who am I looking out for? What do I need to know?

MrsVamos · 25/06/2012 12:27

Sparkling, are you ? Shock

Ones to watch this year. Hmmm. It's really a matter of debate on here, and sometimes causes heated discussions here...from the tennis threads we have already done this year, one to watch is most definetely Rafael Nadal. Following on from his brilliant 7th win at Roland Garros, he must be in contention. (And he's our favourite player to drool over watch. Smile

Also Novak Djokovic, known here as DickDjok, and of course Roger Federer.

Other men : Jo-Wilfred Tsonga, possibly John Isner.

Women is a bit different. As you will discover if you watch the women, there is no real consistency in their game/s, so it could be anyone's Slam for the taking.

Should CremeEgg appear here she can give you much more info than me regarding the women.

Our tennis threads tend to be a mix of fun and frolics, as well as the serious business of discussing the day's play. Things don't really take off till the second week, but the threads here last year were brilliant and produced some great camaraderie, that would put the England Football Team to shame. Grin

I don't go so far as to fill in the results etc....but the tennis will be on in the Vamos household from 11:30am till it finishes.

We were spoilt this year having Roland Garros on ITV4, normally it's the only 2 weeks of tennis we get, I am beside myself that we also get the Olympics this year ! Grin

DS1 is 13 on Thursday. i was giving birth while Tim Henman was playing Jim Courier and the midwife suggested I name DS after whoever won. Shock Tim or Jim???? It got rained off. Phew.

I think that may have started my Wimbledon avoidance. I hear the title music and my fanjo starts burning. Shock

MrsVamos · 25/06/2012 12:50

Wimbledon avoidance ?

It's only on for 2 weeks. 2 little weeks. That's all.

DS1 clearly had a lucky escape with the rain that day ! You could have gone for Timothy or James, I suppose. Grin

Yes, it is all a bit strange- the world of the nearly 13 year old boy. Ups and downs is an understatement. And the drama. Sad

He started a new school today. I wonder if he will tell me anything at all?

MrsVamos · 25/06/2012 13:04

I read your school thread, but couldn't add anything constructive.

I hope he enjoys the new school, sounded like you all had a bit of a shite time.

I think sometimes the key is to ask questions a certain way, so that if they respond with a grunt, you can learn the difference between the 'good' and 'bad' grunts. Wink

Hello! What have I missed. Is Murray still in???

My contributions this year may be less than last year owing to work (boo) and ds now being 14 mo and walking!! Was it only a year ago he was lying in the Moses basket as I perved appreciated the talent of the tennis players!

vigglewiggle · 25/06/2012 13:12

What on earth has John McEnro done to his hair? He was a nice distinguished grey colour and now he seems to be trying to be blonde!

MrsVamos · 25/06/2012 13:13

Glaikit

Yes, Murray is still in. Only because he's not playing till tomorrow. Grin

My contributions may be less this year too, but I had to be here for the first day, and get the ball rolling.

RL gets in the way of my mnetting a lot lately. (boo, hiss)

Yes, my favourite tournament to watch on TV, I watch whatever tennis I can find on telly, was great having French Open on ITV4 this year, a very pleasant surprise indeed.

this year, for first time in years, I have tickets for centre court later this week - I am so excited.

I am big fan of Novak, so hoping for him and Rafa in the final.

Glaikit · 25/06/2012 13:18

Envyat your cc tickets! Although I am not a Novak fan. I like rafa but I have to support my fellow scot Murray, much to mrsVs displeasure!!

MrsVamos · 25/06/2012 13:19

I'm Envy too, angel. Have a great time !

You don't have to support him, Glaikit, you choose to. More's the pity. Grin

Just popping in, marking my place and bring a little bit of <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?hl=en&safe=off&sa=X&biw=1024&bih=537&tbm=isch&prmd=imvnsuo&tbnid=BTls5amSKjbreM:&imgrefurl=coolspotters.com/athletes/andy-roddick&docid=ZIQhOrDbe2OPBM&imgurl=www3.images.coolspotters.com/photos/127599/andy-roddick-profile.jpg&w=300&h=450&ei=DlfoT77RELC00QW7k4D3CQ&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=701&vpy=149&dur=352&hovh=275&hovw=183&tx=113&ty=287&sig=116347011247313007588&page=1&tbnh=140&tbnw=92&start=0&ndsp=12&ved=1t:429,r:10,s:0,i:169" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">gorgeousness.

As it looks like it may be Andy's last year in the singles, I am looking for a new ...inspiration. Wink

BlackOutTheSun · 25/06/2012 13:23

Marking my place as I've only just got into tennis, still don't understand the rules completely.

Stopped asking dp as it lead to too many arguements

RaahhfaNadalsmyToyboy · 25/06/2012 13:24

Whoop! Just got inGrin

I am veryEnvy of anyone actually getting to go- it is 18 years since i went!Shock I saw a women's quarter final match on centre- think it was Conchita Martinez against Lyndsey Davenport, the year she went on to win.

I am looking forward to some good matches. I am hoping the rain stays away!

Vamos Rafa

Glaikit · 25/06/2012 13:25

You don't understand mrsV, I do have to, it the Scottish thing. If we don't support ourselves who will! The guilt of not supporting him would kill me!

Any otter does this inspire you?

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 25/06/2012 13:25

Hello, hello!

Not sure how much I am going to be able to watch this year, my two are nearly 4, and 15 months and a proper handful!

I see Ferrero is playing Djokovic - really hope he wins! Hate Djokovic, and Ferrero is hot, I remember watching him on CC a few years ago.

DialsMavis · 25/06/2012 13:25

DP is working there every single day and has been for 2 weeks already, I might need to start perving on the players instead of on DP. He leaves pre 8am and gets home about midnight... he hasn't see the DC for days! After today he will be on the 2pm-midnight shift, so will manage to abdicate from any parental responsibility whatsoever- Grrrrr Grin

RaahhfaNadalsmyToyboy · 25/06/2012 13:26

I really hope Roddick pulls off a big win AnyOtter- I like watching him.
