I'm torn. It's one of my all time fave books so I'm not sure whether to watch or not.
Will Sky+ so I have the choice later I think. Pretty sure DH won't want to watch it!

NannyPlumIsMyMum · 22/01/2012 08:52

Blondie iv never read the book - if you watch it let us know what you think.

I'll be watching it :)

fivegomadindorset · 22/01/2012 09:00

No.

AlpinePony · 22/01/2012 11:37

Yes! I'm very excited about it - I just hope they don't dwell on all that dull romance stuff too much! Grin

StellaAndFries · 22/01/2012 11:42

I will be :)

MurielTheActor · 22/01/2012 14:42

Really hated the book but the bit about the book I most disliked, the 'modern day' storyline has apparently been removed from the adaptation. So that has to be in its favour....

sillybillies · 22/01/2012 15:34

yes, looking forward to it and hoping I enjoy it as much as I enjoyed the book.

gastonscave · 22/01/2012 17:59

Loved the book it is such a powerful emotional book. I remember reading one particular bit of the book and actually retching.

I read it before I helped out on a school trip to Ypres and the battle fields. Made me appreciate what those poor men has gone though all the more.

Looking forward to seeing how well they adapt it. Alpine Pony I fear they will spend too long on the romantic aspect of it its probably what they think will drag us in

MollieO · 22/01/2012 18:03

I'm another not sure. I absolutely loved the book but not sure I want to see an adaptation that won't measure up to my imagination.

CeliaFate · 22/01/2012 18:08

What is the mood of it? Depressing and downtrodden? Or joyful and optimistic?

MollieO · 22/01/2012 18:12

A real rollercoaster of emotions.

CeliaFate · 22/01/2012 18:14

Hmm, ultimately uplifting or grim? Can't be doing with the latter tonight!

SilverMachine · 22/01/2012 18:17

Yes definitely.

I loved the book and have got high hopes for the adaptation.

MollieO · 22/01/2012 18:23

Celia it is too complex to describe in the terms you are hoping for. It is one of only a handful of books that I have read in my lifetime that affected me so much. I read it when it was first published 18 years ago and I've never re-read it as it is still so vivid in my memory.

Ragwort · 22/01/2012 18:24

Yes, loved the book.

ThePathanKhansWitch · 22/01/2012 18:27

I'll give it a bash. I just couldn't get on with the novel.

HarrietJones · 22/01/2012 18:31

I'm going to watch

ButWhyIsTheGinGone · 22/01/2012 18:36

Hated the book but will give it a bash tonight.

OrmIrian · 22/01/2012 18:41

Probably. Couldn't stand the book. Don't much care for any of his books. But DH is a soppy git and wants to watch it.

ThePathanKhansWitch · 22/01/2012 18:52

Orm thought it was just me. It seems all angst for the sake of it.

eatyourveg · 22/01/2012 19:13

Miranda followed by Eddie - a real treat. I'm doing the dc bedtime routine early and taking to my bed too!

SwedishEdith · 22/01/2012 21:06

I loved the book but am already perturbed by the drippiness of the 2 lovebird characters

cerealqueen · 22/01/2012 21:33

Enough with the long lingering looks!
