I remember him in Emmerdale too!

nikos · 16/12/2011 16:34

I've only just found this drama -it is AMAZING!! Havent seen anything as good in ages. Love the Woody character and his interactions with new girlfriend and his family.

LEttletownofBOFlehem · 16/12/2011 16:36

Isn't it, nikos? I'm going to make DP watch them all with me tonight for another fix Xmas Grin

paulapantsdown · 16/12/2011 17:03

nikos and littletown- don't watch 86 and 88 until you have watched the film first. You really need to the film to understand the different relationships and dynamics. It won't be half as good if you just watch 86 and 88.

DH and i also watched this together

We don't usually have the same taste in tv (Million Pound Drop, anyone Xmas Shock ?) but we were both enthralled and emotionally-connected with the film, and both series

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 16/12/2011 17:13

anyone know what channel/time "Dead Mans Shoes" is on ?

LEttletownofBOFlehem · 16/12/2011 17:14

I have seen the film: I just missed the first TV series when it aired, so wasn't sure I could pick up the plot.

But hurrah for 4OD!

nikos · 16/12/2011 17:22

I have seen the film but like the series much more. The characters are much more developed (as you would expect). As well as being a fantastic drama it takes me back to an era that I remember fondly. Feel myself going right back to my teenage/early twenties. There was so much anti establishment stuff going on then and watching Woody's family makes me think I'm becoming quite middle aged now and like them Blush. The series is actually quite breathtaking-making drama like this is a real gift.

fergoose · 16/12/2011 17:24

Dead Man's Shoes is on Film 4 at 11.20pm tonight :)

nikos · 16/12/2011 17:25

And how unusual and welcome it is to have tv that actually makes you think.

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 16/12/2011 17:28

thanks, fergoose

you know, your name makes me think of Thomas Turgoose Xmas Smile

mrsjay · 16/12/2011 17:30

tethersjinglebellend · 16/12/2011 18:08

Have you seen it before, mrsjay?

valiumredhead · 16/12/2011 18:10

I am going to record it as it's on late and watch it tomorrow night and will update the thread with my thoughts.

Off topic - I thought of you today as I woke up this morning and it was snowing, my heart sank Sad Have you managed to escape it?

valiumredhead · 16/12/2011 18:10

tethersjinglebellend · 16/12/2011 18:28

As I said upthread, it's a masterpiece- but brace yourself, it's heavy going.

valiumredhead · 16/12/2011 18:30

Yeah that;s why I am not going to watch it just before I go to sleep - I will need to watch Corrie to balance things out Grin

noddyholder · 16/12/2011 18:33

Grim but brilliant watched ep 3 this afternoon

paulapantsdown · 16/12/2011 20:13

So is Dead Mans Shoes on tonight then? Must look for it and record.

I am glad nikos and bethlehem that you had actually seen the film - wouldn't want you missing out and not getting the full picture! I agree though that the series are better as obviously there is more time to understand the characters.

I have been thinking more about Woody today, and how he is trying sooo hard to conform and be the person his parents want him to be but he just can't. How many people are living their lives like that? I know I have a some points in my life. Really well played by him.

nikos · 16/12/2011 20:32

It's just genius though, the way you think about it for days after and start to question things. Am saving the last one to watch on 4OD after kids in bed. There is such a lack of this sort of drama in film and tv at the moment.

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 16/12/2011 20:43

paula, that is so true

you can see how painful it is for Woody to conform, but he tries so hard

ILovePonyo · 16/12/2011 21:13

Just watched last nights episode, wow. Blubbed at the end, lovely lol seemed to get some of her 'light' back and woody was brilliantly acted, funny and heartbreaking at the same time.
Thought the fight scene was realistic and maybe the nurse was praying because it's all she could think of to do for lol?
I am gutted it's over, I'm sure I'll be thinking about it for the next few days at least...
