Oh no. Just channel hopping and realised lovely Gareth Malone is doing his 'choir' thing again-and I have missed the first half. I didn't even know it was on. Sad

He gets back on something like the 19th/20th so here for Christmas and then his next course starts on the 4th January, for 3 weeks, he's back a week (at work) then away again for pretty much the whole of Feb, then back till he goes.

I know it sounds daft, but other forces wives may well agree with me, in the 2/3 weeks before they actually depart when they have leave, I actually start wishing he was away, because I know what's coming , and once I know he's landed safely wherever he's going then I can start counting down the days till he gets back, but when they are hainging around at home waiting to go, well , that's hard

Sparklingbaubles · 04/12/2011 19:14

I can understand that MiSaltire. Try and have a really good Christmas. Smile

MmeLindor. · 04/12/2011 19:16

Asked the choir to ask him (cause they tweet more) and they said they think either Boden or Joules.

How very MN.

Do you get any extra support at Xmas?

orienteerer · 04/12/2011 19:20

Saltaire - you have my sympathy. DH is in A......stan. He's been there on and off since 2008, as a civi, so admit to better terms than military in that he does 6 weeks on & 2 weeks off or 9 & 3. Doesn't get any easier but I guess DS & I get into a routine. We're both ex military so know the score re separation etc but as he's working for a Govt Dept it does get to me sometimes that we 'civi'/'civil service' families have no UK support system. I've pre ordered my Military Wives Choir CD by the wayXmas Grin.

miSaltireandwine · 04/12/2011 19:25

mmeLindor - he's here for Christmas, his departure date isn't till next year. I do know though that there is a lot of welfare support open to spouses and children - if they want it, at Christmas time

jcscot · 04/12/2011 19:28

I endorse what Saltire said about the two weeks before they go - it's hellish. My husband was dying to get out and get started on the challenge ahead. We were tense and trying to be positive for the children. When he went, I actually felt relieved because I knew that the countdown to his coming home could begin.

Obviously he misses us and found it hard to say goodbye but he was slso excited to be going. He was supposed to be going to a desk/staff job but instead he got a more "exciting" job in Helmand. Christmas will be hard but I'll make as much fun as I can for the children.

Roll on R&R in April!

MmeLindor. · 04/12/2011 19:33

Jc/saltire
I read a blog recently by a military wife, she said the same thing - the waiting for them to go is worse than the time when they are away.

Northernlurker · 04/12/2011 19:48

Ok I watched it again (65,000 views on Youtube now) - blubbed again. I'm not really progressing.......

hanahsaunt · 04/12/2011 20:05

64,697 of those were ds3 yesterday; I chopped onions madly as an excuse Blush

yellowraincoat · 04/12/2011 20:24

Just finished watching the last episode, bawling my eyes out!

It's amazing when you think how much can be achieved in such a short period of time. I felt so much for Sam who did the solo, she had such low self-esteem and I really hope this has helped her see what a lovely voice she has.

Boo67 · 04/12/2011 20:57

Talking of Xmas No1, the kids of a friend of mine go to a primary school where theyve written and recorded their own Xmas charity single. They're trying to get it on the radio - have a look; it's actually really good!

Northernlurker · 04/12/2011 21:12

hanahsaunt - I have to shut the door to the room before I put it on. I'm dreading it coming on the radio when I'm driving.........

OhBuggerandArse · 04/12/2011 21:48

I am completely out of the loop here but have just dropped in to say that when I read the title on the Discussions of the Day list my first thought was that Gareth was singing with the wives of Ed and David Miliband.

I'll get my coat.

Bossybritches22 · 04/12/2011 22:14

Oh yes SCDDiva !

Sparklingbaubles · 05/12/2011 07:12

i really want a knitted hoodie like Gareth's.

I bet Christmas in the Malone household is fab. Someone who can sing and play the piano makes all the difference. Envy

Iwasagnome · 05/12/2011 07:44

I liked it too
Can`t see it online Boden,Joules or M and S.

Bossybritches22 · 05/12/2011 07:51

Wahoooo!!!

Storming up the pre-order charts on Amazon......keep spreading the word!

Sparkling & Iwas ....focus dears, focus,... Xmas Grin

I agree Christmas must be fab chez Malone, very melodic!

FrozenNorthPole · 05/12/2011 09:09

I like it ... but definitely a few tears here, from another military wife.

The waiting for them to go part is some of the worst of it, I agree. DH doesn't deploy til next year now but I almost wish it was already underway.

Marinesmrs · 05/12/2011 09:42

MiSaltire agree - mine goes again January (his choice grrrrrrrrrrr).... and even when they arent deployed they are away loooooads! Even driver training can take 9 weeks.... The build up is the worst thing - my hubby gets obsessed with making sure everything is done in the hous e- mainly so that I dont mess it up while hes away I think lol x

Apparently we are already the biggest selling single on amazon whooop!!! 2 Fab charities who get lots of money...... MiSaltire also make sure you use the RBL while he's away they do loads for families!

We finally got round to putting the tree up yesterday so trying desperately to get in the christmas mood..... but work gets in the way haha x
