I pre-ordered on iTunes, hope it counts!!!!

Had dinner with PIL's last night, naturally it didn't take long before we were discussing "THE" programme of the year, and MIL and I were blubbing just chatting about it, let alone actually watching it (luckily we didn't watch it together!) but as we are spending Christmas together, no doubt it will be on TV/Radio etc etc and we WILL be blubbing like babies!!!

Bossybritches22 · 05/12/2011 10:07

Woo-hoo again!!

Thanks for the update Marinesmrs bet you're all on tenterhooks aren't you? Xmas Grin

Hopefully all the hoo-ha will take your minds off the upcoming deployment for just a few moments each day, it must be a horrible time, I can understand you almost wishing they'd just GO, while dreading it.

What's the general reaction from the hubbies? Hope they're not giving you grief for leaving them holding the babies (for a change Xmas Grin) while you hob-nob with Chris and Gareth the stars???!!!

Marinesmrs · 05/12/2011 10:25

My hubby is very underwhelmed by the whole thing lol... but thats him - even if it gets to number one he wont jump for joy - but I know hes happy for me x Its all exciting to see if we actually manage to do it! I finish work (finally) on the 16th Dec for a few weeks so can finally take part in some of the press things........ we have 3 kiddies so he has his hands full when I'm not there - soft play centres must be making a fortune in North devon atm lol x

Its the life we chose, and although I dont think I quite knew what it was going to be like..... its just one of those things... and plus we are lucky because when they come back its like a new relationship again - so keeps it alive if you get what I mean?

Its good that people now recognise the fact that service men have families - as normally we dont have a voice (as GM says)..... i feel for any family going through it - and I guess we were the lucky ones - we had the choir as a focus - most dont x

GingerWrath · 05/12/2011 10:45

I have preordered, but I cannot watch the video! I blub as soon as it starts and so does my 5yo DD. It's just too close to home.

Well done you lot!

Northernlurker · 05/12/2011 10:55

Oh crumbs gingerwrath - just reading your post made me fill up.

Fuzzywood · 05/12/2011 11:00

Can you slap me too please Northern just watched the video for the first time then watched some of the other performances so blabbing away. Will pre-order my copy today.

Bossybritches22 · 05/12/2011 11:01

Little children & big hunky men always hit the blub button with me, but lately with the programme & video I'm a permanent mess & i'm not even a forces anything.

GingerWrath · 05/12/2011 11:27

I just realised I said photo twice, I blame the blurry eyes

Bossy gets me everytime, my little blonde DD in her big hunky Daddy's desert tanned arms, the photographer caught it just right, there is a single tear caught in her bottom eyelashes.

MmeLindor. · 05/12/2011 11:55

Ginger
You meanie.

I guess it has been extra hard these past years when the services were involved in conflicts that did not enjoy broad public support. Must be difficult for them and especially their families to see protest marches, knowing that their guys are out there in danger zone.

Fubble · 05/12/2011 12:17

folks, I only saw the first episode of Military wives and now can't find it on iplayer - anywhere else I can see this online?

Thanks for your help in advance!

Bossybritches22 · 05/12/2011 12:27

Exactly MmeLindor

I've always said whilst I disagree at times with the politicians making the choices they do in sending our troops into yet another bloody war, I ALWAYS support said troops doing their job as do many others I'm sure.

I now have a renewed admiration for all the families left behind too. I really do think GM & his choir have hit a national nerve & with it being the RBL' s 90th birthday year people will want to show their support & appreciation for all they do.

Lovely article on the RBL website

Scroll down to the bottom for a video link to the press launch with Chris Evans, GM & the ladies!

Bossybritches22 · 05/12/2011 12:30

Fubble try you-tube, you'll have to watch it in sections but it's still good!

DoesNotGiveAFig · 05/12/2011 12:33

I appreciate the troops and such but I can't stand the song, it just seems ridiculous. "My love will keep you safe." It's just not reality and it irks me.

GingerWrath · 05/12/2011 12:38

Actually DoesNot, knowing that your wife is at home and loves you is a massive boost to troops, regular contact with home keeps them going.

Marinesmrs · 05/12/2011 12:40

DoesNotGiveAFig - everyone is entitled to their point of view but the song was written from the letter that WE wrote to our husbands whilst deployed, and indeed their letters back to us. Every word was on a letter! What would you prefer? A song that states the dangers they are going into, how they may lose a limb in combat, or that our children may not ever see them again? not much of a song really! The song may not be your choice, but please do not question the sentiment behind it.

Marinesmrs · 05/12/2011 12:51

I don't think either us or our husbands truly believe that love can keep you safe, but its the sentiment behind it. As I say its from a letter - one of our ladies wrote that to her husband and while I doubt he decided to go out a think he was therefore invicible, it was something that was actually said, and for that moment was probably something that took his mind off where he was for that moment. We are not nieve women, we understand that love cant save someone from an IED, its a song, it was a letter, it was our thoughts. Try sitting down and writting to your husband while they are fighting in a country, you dont know if its the last thing they will read, so maybe yes you say sentimental things, but thats the point of the song. You say whatever you want to, whatever comes from your heart because that may be the last time you get to communicate with your loved one.

Marinesmrs · 05/12/2011 12:53

You are entitled to your opinion which is why its on this forum. If you dont liek the song thats fair enough but like I said please dont question our sentiment - it was heart felt and something we believe in. a discussion is just that - a discussion.... 2 sides.... I am trying to explain why it was written so that you understand and dont just think it was wording plucked out of thin air.

MmeLindor. · 05/12/2011 12:57

Doesnotgiveafig
You are being incredibly rude. Of course love cannot keep the men safe, but the thought that their wives and girlfriends back home are thinking of them daily, are willing them to be safe - that must be a comfort to them.

To come on this thread and rubbish the feelings and emotions of these women is incredibly insensitive.

Of course you are entitled to your opinion, but you could express it elsewhere where you would not upset women who are dealing with the reality of life as a forces wife.

GingerWrath · 05/12/2011 12:58

And so spoils a lovely positive thread......

Sparklingbaubles · 05/12/2011 13:02
Sad
DoesNotGiveAFig · 05/12/2011 13:02

I am not trying to rubbish your feelings. Sorry to have offended you.

DoesNotGiveAFig · 05/12/2011 13:03

Thank you Marinemrs, I appreciate your efforts.

MunchkinsMumof2 · 05/12/2011 13:04

Well said MmeLindor, was trying to compose a polite reply to Fig but you have done it much more eloquently than I could. I love the Miliwives Choir and Gareth Malone and have been watching the video loads. I really hope that they are number 1, not to beat the X Factor but because they deserve to be.
