I've just seen a segment from the new series on The Culture Show, Brix and Lund are the only characters reprising their roles and there are less episodes than the first series, but according to Sofie Grabol it's on a higher level and more in depth! Cannot wait until next month!!!

I'm here teej ..sincere apologies for my lateness!!! Grin

I am really hoping that Stange doesn't get blown into smithereens in the next episode! I do at least think that Raben might have at least shouted: "Noooo don't go in there ...tis wired" ...or is that too reasonable a request?Grin

Soogard is indeed a sinister chap, I can't quite decide where he fits in yet? ...scratches chin and decides he may well be Perk teej!

Strange is lovely, but, I'll say it again he's no MeyerSad Grin

As a previous lurker to both this and the last series threads may I just add that:

Brix reminds me of Antony Head and
Jens a Young Danish Harry Connick Jnr.

That is all.

peggyblackett · 27/11/2011 09:39

I had a sleepless night over Gruner's demise .

Strange and Jens both larvely.

I agree that Sogaard could be Perk.

CalatalieSisters · 27/11/2011 09:43

Do you think that Brix will ever be given anything else to do other than stand statuesquely and think "I must sack Lundt; oh no I mustn't sack Lundt"? It is getting dull now.

Funtimewincies · 27/11/2011 09:47

Morning!

So...

  1. who sent the SOS radio message to the army group?
  2. is Fellow Believer Bilial (sp?), acting on military orders or someone from the People's Party (never trust anyone who talks about 'the people' imo) stirring terrorist paranoia for their own political ends?
  3. will Strange get blown up by the booby-trapped gun cupboard (or had I had too much Wine by that point and dreamt it Confused)?

Antony Head! Thanks, it's been bugging me Grin. Who does Jens' wife look like? I'm thinking of a UK, possibly yorkshire/northern/plays 'northern' characters, actress Hmm.

WowOoo · 27/11/2011 10:08

I do hope that Strange does not get blown up. I really quite like him.
Enjoyed the flirty comic scenes between them.

Had to press pause a few times just to clarify a few things and annoyed DH.
Sooo much to take in.
I know who you mean, Jens' wife. Can't think of her name at the mo,, but will come to me.

MavisGrind · 27/11/2011 10:56

Do you mean Sarah Parish?? I had to google and the only thing I could remember the name of was the 1990's Boddington's adverts! Grin

smugmumofboys · 27/11/2011 11:00

Just watched ep4 on iplayer as I fell asleep on sofa last night.

Two questions: At the border did they speak Danish or Swedish to the Swedish bobby or are they the same but with different accents like UK and USA English? To my ear they sound different but I'd lik to know (language teacher bore).

Second question: never mind the jumper - where did Lund get that lovely brown leather bag from?

Off out. Will check in later. Smile

Funtimewincies · 27/11/2011 11:44

Not Sarah Parish or the Boddingtons woman. I can't remember the name of anything she's been in or any characters she's played and it's annoying me Confused.

I was wondering the same thing Smug. I was also coming over all nostalgic for Wallander Grin.

HereKittyKitty · 27/11/2011 12:39

Don't worry Pomme, I respect The Lund Love and would never dream of putting spoilers on the thread it was aliens Grin

I have now seen one episode of the BBC version and the subtitles were great compared to the version I saw. It actually clarified some of the political stuff for me, which was unbelievably difficult to follow in terrible english!

PommePoire · 27/11/2011 14:50

Trying to stay off here, as was overcome by tiredness had a tiny bit too much wine last night and didn't make it through Episode 4. Am now feeling better refreshed through sleep and will view it this evening more alert and better equipped to get head round complexities. Just to say heart sank when poor Gruner's car was found and Lund saw Jens running away...can't wait to see where that's heading in Episode 4. Also, l too am loving the way Buch seems to be fleshing out (no pun intended) as a character and really stood-up for himself first to his advisors and then against glamour puss opposition woman.

So, for my investigation into the hotness of Danish politicians (AKA The Hunt for Troels Alike's) I reckon the lovely Lord Mayor of Copenhagen, Frank Jensen although lacking in the 'icy and aloof' sex appeal stakes, is nonetheless quite easy on the eye?

Funtimewincies · 27/11/2011 15:38

Got it! Lousie (Jens' wife) looks like Liz White (Annie Cartwright in Life on Mars) Grin.

PommePoire · 27/11/2011 16:16

Ooh, yes, she does! It's her flicky ends.

teejwood · 27/11/2011 16:39

posting and running again - will be back later - but just had to share this! today the Observer ran xmas gift ideas based on fave telly programmes. the killing fans' selection is here. those lund-a-like jumpers come up as the first option, naturally Grin

MelinaM · 27/11/2011 18:12

Ohhh I shall have to go and unwrap my Observer, thank you teejSmile

OP posts:
teejwood · 27/11/2011 20:23

my pleasure mel Grin i fear the beer is probably more in my budget than the jumper/chair/funky light! {and sorry to have crashed out before you came back online last night!}

mavis yy to Jens being a bit harry connick jr!! but brix is a bit more herman munster than the lovely anthony head, no?

pomme - ohhh agree Mr Jensen is much easier on the eye than any of the options we have at our disposal Wink

actually - let's throw that out as a challenge to the killing thread lurkers and posters - anyone got a decent looking mayor in their UK town? london is a write-off, obviously, but maybe we'd have more luck somewhere else?

funtime good spot re:louise and annie from life on mars - i was wondering why she looked so familiar!

smugmum not sure whether we were supposed to assume that everyone was conversing in danish or swedish at the border Confused - anyone more competent in nordic languages who can clarify? (oh and i also noticed lund's bag Grin)

teejwood · 27/11/2011 20:44

right - onto the plot

ummm.... did anyone else momentarily think we were being bluffed with gruner - that he could actually walk, the wheelchair was a bluff and the gruner "body" was actually some other poor sod? a bit agatha christie-ish, i know, and it does not fit with the murderer being in plain sight from ep1 - but it was on my whiteboard for a moment (with dp laughing his legs off in the background) Blush

funtime i also wondered who sent the SOS radio message to the army group - whether it was actually a member of "perk"'s team trying to get reinforcements to stop him and what he was doing rather than perk's team being under attack per se

i don't think Fellow Believer is Billal - the latter is in there as a red herring imho - and i also think FB has his or her own agenda against Raban's team - the fundamentalist thread is there as this year's distraction; the People's Party will capitalise upon this as much as possible but they are unlikely to be behind it - in general politicians don't like to get their own hands dirty!

i feel like we need to get what happened in afghanistan properly fleshed out so we can see the real motive. if raban's team testified against perk then it is likely the perpetrator is perk, trying to get his own back on them for "snitching" on him. ultimately we need to know if perk is still in the army - if yes then that points to sogaard; if not then i fear it is strange! watch out lund!!!

MelinaM · 28/11/2011 00:04

Tis fabulous teej!!! I love the lego head, and the beer is an absolute must I agree!
They do have the price of that beautiful jumper wrong though! Tis a mere snip at £240!!! Perhaps if I'm a very good girl Father Christmas will oblige?!!! Grin

Perhaps they'll explore the Afghanistan story properly next week? Here's hoping anyway, if only Thomsen hadn't left the bloody car!!!

I think the fundamentalist link is just a ploy for the People's Party to push through their new terrorism law/agenda. I do keep waiting for Troels to reappear but no such luck! ..no offence to Buch of course, but well... Grin

OR we could be being lead up the garden path yet again, and it is actually one of the politicians bumping off the victims in order to put the Arabic movement in the frame?

OR OR OR it was the priest??? ...the law abiding chap that no-one would suspect! ...and he has a link to the military!

OP posts:
MelinaM · 28/11/2011 00:08

Troels!!! Here's a bit of a bizarre interview regarding Danish asylum seekers! ...and do I detect a London accent when he's speaking in English?!!

OP posts:
mousymouse · 28/11/2011 09:19

brix reminds me a bit of this guy
but to be fair, only until I looked at the pictures again.
I have a little brix crush Blush

Libra · 28/11/2011 09:42

Hi - not Danish but married to one.

Danish and Swedish is very alike so it is perfectly possible for a Dane to talk Danish to a Swede and vice versa and be mostly understood. Particularly if the Dane lives somewhere where he can get Swedish TV (and vice versa again).

Even DS1, who has never lived in Denmark but is pretty good at speaking Danish, had no problems when we holidayed in Sweden (also Norway). Remember that the southern part of Sweden (where Wallender lives!) used to be Danish and all of Norway used to be Danish.

Re Perk - the officer who apparently started shooting up civilians in Afghanistan. DH says that 'perk' or 'perkan' (I am probably not spelling it right) is a very derogatory name for someone from that area or a Muslim and therefore he now thinks that it is not Office Perk that Thomsen heard about but an officer that was a 'perkan' ie Billal.

Blackduck · 28/11/2011 09:58

Loving it (again), but whilst faster paced and all that I miss the sheer heartbreak of the parents acting in series 1. I loved the 'I can't see you wandering hand in hand through a Swedish forest' line - strange certainly has the measure of her, and he is equally impulsive - diving off into the woods without her. No idea who done it just enjoying it! And will she ever ask him in for cake? (please don't let him get blown up next week I don't think Lund or Brix could take her losing another partner)

teejwood · 28/11/2011 10:00
Shock
mousymouse · 28/11/2011 10:09

strange is a my first suspect at the mo...

teejwood · 28/11/2011 10:15

i would love lund to end up happily ever after with someone as disfunctional as she is - ie strange - but it concerns me there is something odd about him. is he really going on all these dates etc or is he actually off investigating the case on his own; setting up the deaths etc?
FB is supposed to speak in very clipped short sentences - strange tends to do that, too.

also - why is brix reluctant to remove lund from the investigation when he is under pressure to do so? perhaps because brix is concerned the killer is right under their noses (ie strange) and he needs an outsider with no loyalty to the team to uncover the truth? or is it simply that lund is expendable - that if she upsets people while solving the case she can simply be shunted back to customs while Brix's own team comes out "clean"?

i'm sure the perp is one of the soldiers but - i don't know - anyone else keeping strange on their suspect list? Confused
