been off work with flu for the past 10 days and just feeling human again so watched marchlands on catch up twice just to get the story in my head

I'm not sure Olive's baby would have been raised by Ruth, she would have been in her 40s at least by the time it was born? Also, Olive's baby would now only be 20 if he'd survivied. I can't see that Ruth would be happy with someone else going through the grief of losing a child either so don't think she would have taken Olive's son.

Mind you, I think 60's Ruth comes across as quite sweet, if a bit wet, wheras 2010 Ruth is a little strange!

very - though Marchlands house isn't in the village at all so no idea where that was filmed. Odd that they all have northern accents...we're in Hertfordshire!

Also, perhaps 2010 Ruth fibbed about having a son? To lay a trail away from her ever having a daughter? I think the secret is hidden in the diary under the floorboards and it will all unravel from there once 2010 Ruth finds it.

I haven't watched yesterday's episode yet, it's waiting for me on the hard drive... But I'm sure I remember on the newspaper article that 80s dad was lloking at, it said that Alice had been walking in the woods with her grand-dad when she drowned. I'm sure he is involved in some way.

So I take we've decided that FIL is Olives dad (good, one less thing to worry about)
Olive is def the link between 60s, 80s and now.
Priest def knew something more about Alice death - he seemed quite keen to exoricse/bless the 80s house (thought priests didn't like doing that sort of thing)

On a tangent somewhat, can I just commend ITV for this series. Just goes to show what good writing and a good cast can do. A la Downton Abbey

I wonder if the priest was Alice's Dad? Can't work out if the low sperm count of Alice's Dad is a clue or if it is just to show that Ruth had no more children?

Marchlands house is in Tadworth, surrey, I googled it last might before i saw this thread, as i was saying to DH i would love to live in that house.

My theory -

Scott is some sort of time traveller (that is why he keeps having fits - going back and forward through time à la 'The Time Travelers Wife', 'The Butterfly Effect'.. etc)
And he killed Alice in the 60's
There is something about him 1980s/2010 that gets me thinking that he knows much more than he is letting on.
Maybe Scott was Alice's dad in the 60's (via the powers of time travel) ??

It would be SUCH a let down if it was the FIL/Olives mum/affair/Alice had an accident story. Boring.
