WHat about Scott? Couldn't he have done it?

expatinscotland · 17/02/2011 22:18

How could Scott have done it? If he was 17 in 1987, he'd only have been born in 1970 and Alice died in 1967,

SugarSkyHigh · 17/02/2011 22:19

As an ignorant southerner, I am wondering what is so phoney about Alex Kingston's accent - sounds authentic to me? Seriously, can someone tell me what is fake about it?!!

expatinscotland · 17/02/2011 22:20

Ditto Mark. He wasn't that much older than Scott because Scott just said Mark was shagging Olive the summer before he left, in 1987. So if Olive knew Alice, she must have been at least 7 or so years older than both Scott and Mark.

expatinscotland · 17/02/2011 22:21

Either that or these screenwriters should be shot for not even bothering with basic arithmetic.

slartybartfast · 17/02/2011 22:23

i think alice and olive were the same age.

mynameis · 17/02/2011 22:26

Didn't we see Olive as a little girl in the graveyard with her mum in the first episode? When the mum said hello to Ruth.

expatinscotland · 17/02/2011 22:27

Okay, then Olive and Alice would have been born in 1959, because Alice was 8 when she died in 1967.

Scott and Mark were born in about 1970, 1969 at the earliest, possibly 1971 if they were 16 in 1987.

So Olive's at least 10 years older than Mark.

Sure didn't look it back in 1987!

FooffyShmoofer · 17/02/2011 22:27

From what I can see her accent as such is ok but she is still pronouncing all her words properly without any of the northern quirks.
We would say "get in't bath" and such. Doesn't feel authentic.
Dh says I am way too picky about accents.

expatinscotland · 17/02/2011 22:28

Yes, we did, my. She said she lost her hearing when she was 4 when she was talking to Mark.

Hmm
slartybartfast · 17/02/2011 22:29

olvie was his older gf then.

she looks older now doesnt she.

SugarSkyHigh · 17/02/2011 22:31

what about Dean Andrews, is his accent authentic?

FooffyShmoofer · 17/02/2011 22:35

Yeah but he's a Northerner anyway.

FooffyShmoofer · 17/02/2011 22:37

Why is Scott the only one of that family left in the area though? Do we think the parents come to a sticky end?

Fetlock · 17/02/2011 22:38

what do you think the letters meant on the bathroom mirror?

SugarSkyHigh · 17/02/2011 22:40

oh ok fair enough - he sounds the same as Alex to me tho!

FooffyShmoofer · 17/02/2011 22:45

Yeah Grin Ignore me. DH says I am a complete pain in the arse when we're trying to watch something and I'm whinging about the accents

FooffyShmoofer · 17/02/2011 22:45

I think they meant ask Olive.

Teenybitsad · 17/02/2011 23:27

Could the Grndad have done it? Or the Grandmother? Why else were the even there? There is no real reason to have Ruth and herhusband living with the inlaws unless they have a plot point to drivee forward.

NoseyNooNoo · 17/02/2011 23:37

I think Olive pushed Alice in and the shock of it made her go deaf or she saw who did it. Where was Ruth when Alice died? There have been references to her not being where she should have been.

SingleHappyMummy · 18/02/2011 08:47

Loving Marchlands too. Have no idea what the twist will be or who was involved in Alice's death but obviously someone was because there's far too many unanswered questions. BUT, just wanted to say a really HUGE pwhoooooaaaar at Dean Andrews! Blimey, those eyes are soooooo shaggable. If he'd of looked like this in Life on Mars or Ashes to Ashes I'd have been hard pressed to choose between him and the sex-god Gene Hunt Grin.

Vev · 18/02/2011 09:28

In the first episode when Alice was running through the woods it showed you her dad in the woods. Perhaps she stumbled across him doing something he shouldn't, ran off and fell in the water. Intriguing.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 18/02/2011 09:57

singlehappymummy Hands off Dean!

FooffyShmoofer · 18/02/2011 09:57

oh Vev you might have something thereGrin

HoodedCrow · 18/02/2011 10:07

Olive as a young girl signed 'sorry' to Alice's mum at the beginning - hmmmmm
