yeah the green ink thing was definately a weak/clumsy part of the plot, either assuming thick audience, or just needed so 2010 couple knew where to go.

Eleison · 03/03/2011 22:59

It would have been better if she'd just left a note for the 2010 couple "Nipped to Olive's for closure on family tragedy. Back in 20 mins."

detachandtrustyourself · 03/03/2011 23:09

Yep that note would have been better Eleison. Made me laugh.

Someone should tell them that baby should be lying flat when they take her out in the pram, not in the car seat.

detachandtrustyourself · 03/03/2011 23:14

It all showed what tragedy and years of misery can be caused by family secrets and keeping up appearences.

oneofsuesylvesterscheerios · 03/03/2011 23:16

Well I watched the first half hour if episode 1 and the last 40 mins of the last episode and I think, as a 100 min drama it was cliched but enjoyable old pants. If I'd given it any more of my life I'd be quite pissed off.

ITV are obviously paying good money to get a cast like that; shame they didn't pay a good team if scriptwriters too. But you can't have everything I spose.

oneofsuesylvesterscheerios · 03/03/2011 23:17

Chuffing iPhone. I always write 'if' instead of 'of'. I blame my sausage fingers

grumpypants · 04/03/2011 08:13

What a load of old rubbish -
no explanation of where 80s family are
no explanation of where alice's dad is
what on earth was all that cr*p with taking the baby to the river? to chuck it in? to meet alice? FGS.
Nisha is the most unrealisric new mother i have ever seen.
no reveal apart from an affair.
Waste of five hours.

DramaInPyjamas · 04/03/2011 08:50

I enjoyed the show, but..
What a boring and predictable ending. It had a lot of potential for a few good twists..
Meh.

Also, too many questions still left unanswered.

And I wasn't spooked out once during all 5 episodes
(Apart from seeing Dean Andrews topless, that WAS scary!)

Eleison · 04/03/2011 08:57

I think it was quite good so long as you don't look for the reveal as being the source of its value. I really liked the way that stages, event-types, even times of day for each of the three sets of people were developed together in the drama. That was well done I think. Nothing much happened, but the weaving of three sets of nothing much ahappening was enjoyable.

Key failure for me was that, given that Alice's persistence as a force after her death was really an aspect or a consequence of her mother's not having had 'closure' by getting the right info, the whole dramatic weight, the whole psychological power of the haunting, was in Ruth's dustress. 1060s Ruth did that brilliantly, with her wan, baffled, obediently supressed misery pushing through. But 2010 Ruth was really dull and unconvincing.

southeastastra · 04/03/2011 09:28

totally predictable from start to finish - still enjoyable (ish) to watch - wasn't expecting highbrow

womma · 04/03/2011 10:36

I thought the little girl who played 80s Amy was very good, she really looked like she had the weight of the world on her shoulders and even underplayed it a bit. I had an awful feeling she was going to come to some harm, so I'm pleased she was alright in the end.

And I was very relieved that Ruth and her hubbie stuck together.

I was rather emotionally invested in this seeing as its just bloody telly!

Alibobster · 04/03/2011 11:16

Really enjoyed this and thought it was quite sad ending but also bit rubbish ending.

What was the point of Ruth going to the party in Leeds? What was the point of storyline about Olive's baby, it didn't develop into anything further? And Marks company in trouble?? totally irrelevant

mummyosaurus · 04/03/2011 11:33

I was disappointed really. Thought it would have a cleverer ending with more too it.

Wonder what the thing replacing it next week will be like?

I think i must have missed something somewhere because i cant remember where Ruth was when Alice died.

Her husband shouted at her 'You werent where you should have been' but never elaborated on where she was.

Does anyone know?

detachandtrustyourself · 04/03/2011 19:28

At her evening class Doing.

Blondeshavemorefun · 04/03/2011 21:36

Bit dissapointed tbh :(

So Alice died because grandad was shagging olives mum

Olive was only a minute or two behind her when running in the woods so if she fell in the pond why didn't olive and grandad see ripples/hear screaming etc

AllGoodNamesGone · 04/03/2011 21:50

Was the pond the kitten drowned in in the place where Alice's little patch of garden was (we saw 1960s Ruth tending to it at one point)?

Did Alice want to play with the kitten in her garden but, being a ghost, didn't realise there was a pond there now? Hence the "didn't mean it" thing.

I also really ejoyed this series and was left feeling a bit let down by the ending.

I'd love to see a floor plan of the house as I couldn't work out where all the rooms were!

DoingTheBestICan · 04/03/2011 22:17

a1b2 thanks,i remember that bit now.

Badgerwife · 05/03/2011 18:33

yeah, bit of a downer in the end, how disappointing! It's managed to make me feel slightly bad that I wanted a more "gruesome" ending i.e. an actual murder rather than this accidental bullsh*t Blush. I've been watching too much CSI.

lovecorrie · 06/03/2011 12:00

Oh God, just had a Marchlands Moment. Was in the gym shower when a tiny hand a la washing machine scene was pressed against the side of the cubicle! It fair gave me a shock!!
