Have wondered if Mark and Olive are genetically linked in some way, given the age difference, without either of them realising. That maybe why the baby developed complications and died. Maybe I am just looking into it too much!

Dirtbagsmummy · 25/02/2011 21:04

how come AitchTwoOH has seen the last episode???!!!

frecklyspeckly · 25/02/2011 21:30

Marks father - grandad
Olives father - grandad

that is what I think

Alice is dead because she was told by Olive or found out by watching what the grandad was up to : affair with olives mother.

That is why Olive was so diligent in her persual of Amy when she was running by the lake; she did not want her to fall in like Alice did and history repeat itself. She witnessed Alice falling in Lake as follows:

Grandad struggled with Alice near the lake as the little girl ran away from him after seeing something she should never have seen. In the struggle the coat comes off. She falls in and drowns. Distraught the grandad returns to the farm gives Olives mum the coat to destroy. It was an accident but covered up to hide the affairs of the grandad and the fallout resulting from discovery of his doings.

Grandad encouraging ruth and the son to move away; he doesn't like her refusal to let it go as she is on the trail of discovering the truth.

riojaguzzler · 25/02/2011 21:33

ooohhh... am liking the Ruth bringing up Olive's baby theory! As she couldn't get pregnant again (and was a midwife), maybe the FIL and Olive's mum told Olive the baby had died and gave it to Ruth.

Could explain the comment in the next episode about the trouble 'if all this gets out'....

BeckleinDisguise · 25/02/2011 22:39

Anyone know what the 'signing' little Olive did to yound Ruth in the graveyard means? It was in the first episode but has been reshown I think in another episode. She turned back to look at Ruth and used her fist and arm to make a circle in front of her body (not sure I explained that right)

FrottageCod · 25/02/2011 22:47

I thought it was 'sorry' - didn't she 'mouth' it?

BeckleinDisguise · 25/02/2011 23:09

Ahh, maybe! Sad I feel for Olive, she doesn't seem to have had much happyness in her life

expatinscotland · 25/02/2011 23:59

But then how is the grandad also Mark's father?

I buy the rest of that theory, though!

Vev · 26/02/2011 13:27

According to the radio times for next week's episode the ending is disappointing.

I think Alice just wants her mum to know how she died.

Grabaspoon · 26/02/2011 13:49

What I don't get is -

If the Dad in the 80's was able to find out about Alice why the Mum from 2010 can't just google search about Alice.

Surely given all the time she has to do nothing, she could research Alice online?

Blondeshavemorefun · 26/02/2011 13:51

grabasppon - very true, she does bugger all Grin

Apparently they only did a pilot which wasn't picked up Adversecamber.

hippychick66 · 26/02/2011 16:30

Have been reading all your posts and am Hmm Confused Grin all at once!

I am loving this programme and so hope it doesn't have a disappointing end. I nearly pooped my pants when Alice appeared in the corner of the room Blush. Why doesn't 80's Dad show his dozy wife all the evidence he has collected. I would believe my DH if he told me he'd seen a dripping wet grey girl in the corner of our daughter's bedroom!

Anyway, just wanted to mark my place and will come back and see what you all have to say after next weeks episode. Just out of interest, do any of you watch Being Human - God the things I could do to that Mitchell!

meadowlarks · 26/02/2011 16:41

I'm developing something of a girl crush on Alex Kingston Blush It's her curves.

I agree with the theory that Olive was somehow involved with Alice's death, even if she just witnessed it. I also think the grandfather's hiding something mahoosive.

I have to say I've not really formed an emotional attachment to Ruth or Nisha. Maybe it's the actresses but I can't really feel totally sympathetic for them, despite how horrible their situation is.

I also jumped out of my skin when Alice appeared in the corner of Amy's room. I'm getting to the point where I just want her to piss off back to her grave and stop scaring the shit out of me. Grin

NoseyNooNoo · 26/02/2011 16:45

So are people actually scared by this story. I thought it was the least spooky ghost story I'd ever seen. What do others think?

CalamityKate · 26/02/2011 16:49

Hippychick - Mitchell is MINE, OK?

[narrows eyes]

I love Marchlands but there isn't a single character I've warmed to for some reason.

hippychick66 · 26/02/2011 17:29

I wouldn't go so far as to say scared by it but I do jump a bit when she pops up - I think it's kinda spooky.

calamity we could take alternate days at him !!! Grin

I know what you mean about the characters in Marchlands - blimey that mother in law in the 60's is horrid - pinchy mouthed bitch!

hippychick66 · 26/02/2011 17:32

I do like 80's dad though - he was fab in life on mars too.

Does anyone else think that they did well with the two Olives - they look very alike facially.

Grabaspoon · 26/02/2011 17:45

I've put some of the spoiler sentences from above on a different thread Grin

Am soo loving this - I can't see what the ending can be without it being a disapointing affair discovery gone wrong.

CalamityKate · 26/02/2011 17:58

Oh yes - I'd forgotten about Dean Andrews. I like him. Everyone else is annoying/unpleasant/both.

Curiousmama · 26/02/2011 18:51

Not at all spooked but then I am a spiritualist so shouldn't be Grin

Really looking forward to it the end, am hooked! And I don't watch much tv tbh. No soaps or anything.

Anyone else think modern dad has a smack of Heath ledger about him? Especially his eyes.

Curiousmama · 26/02/2011 18:51

looking forward to the end! pah!

recycledteen · 26/02/2011 19:18

Just the trailer was enough to spook. Not a programme for me cos I still sleep with a light on.
