Help my rabbit is giving birth to a surprise litter!

I had gone out to clean my rabbit out and had done half when I went to her bed and noticed she had pulled some of her fur out and made a nest. I put my hand in the fur and came across a baby so I withdrew my hand quickly and closed the box and ushered mum back inside her hutch. I've fed and watered her as normal and put in some extra hay but I'm at a loss at what I do now. This was at about 1pm and I've left her to it but I'm concerned I've done some damage by disturbing her. Does anyone please have any experience or advice on what to do now?
Thank you.

These bunnies are soooooo cute. Sounds like mum is doing a great job.

My previous bun was the last one of a litter that had been handled by the owners family regularly from birth - she was relatively okay with being picked up as a result (didn't like it, but would put up with it). So keep on handling the babies as much as you can get away with. My current bun was a rescue and not handled much at all - he's a kicking, wriggling nightmare and I have to allow an hour to catch him if we need to visit the vet (he runs away and hides under things!).

Aww sorry to hear about your hamsters purplehair.

Fernie, I'm glad you've said that because I love handling them and I thought it would help them get used to it 😊

FernieB · 10/12/2015 21:27

I would carry on handling them as much as mum will allow. My previous bun was handled from a few days old by a 3 and a 5 year old, so was used to being carried about by the time we took her in. My DDs (then aged 6) could pick her up and although she gave them death stares, she tolerated it.

Your baby buns are so cute. Have you got good homes for them yet?

Mybunnyisamummy · 11/12/2015 10:06

A couple are starting to open their eyes. I managed to handle them more today but mum kept nudging my hand to put them down so i did. Didn't fancy a chunk being taken out of my hand lol they are so cute.

I am happy to provide pictures galore as it's nice to see other people enjoying them as much as I do.
I really don't know how I will be able to stand re-homing them as I've become very attached to them 😍

SpellBookandCandle · 11/12/2015 13:20

OH my! How they have grown! Aren't you just the proud Mum? Bunny mum seems like she is doing an excellent job with her babies. This really is the best thread..

Congratulations!!!

I took one of my girl bunnies to be neutered some years back - when I went to collect her in the evening, the vet said "sorry, we couldn't do the operation". Panicking about problems, I asked why - she'd given birth in the travel case to 4 cutie babies!!! We had no idea she was pregnant!

By the time they were 8 weeks there was no way I could give them away so they all stayed with me Smile

Best of luck with it all - they truly are gorgeous!!!!

ScrambledEggAndToast · 11/12/2015 14:07

We had two 'females' once. Until we woke up and found a litter of baby rabbits Grin

FernieB · 11/12/2015 16:04

Just spent a good hour cleaning up the mess made by my senior male bunny after he spent the morning shredding a cardboard box in the kitchen. I'm showing him the pictures of the baby buns for 'inspiration' as they're sooooo cute and he is not!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 12/12/2015 08:47

Ah, Fernie - CurrentBun might think you're buying him new baby bunny companions and get the next cardboard box ready to evict those "pesky pigs".

I bet he had hours of fun shredding too , who can deny him Grin

mybunny I'm watching these photos, they're blossoming into goregrous little bunnies, especially when they open their eyes Smile and start exploring.

Mybunnyisamummy · 12/12/2015 08:55

Well this morning there are babies bunnies out of the nest! Happily exploring and with their eyes fully opened. My son even got to hold them even though they were rather wriggly.

Mybunnyisamummy · 12/12/2015 08:57

Enjoy 🐰

Mybunnyisamummy · 12/12/2015 08:58

They are gorgeous, like tiny reindeer Grin

Are you looking for homes for them or are you still planning on keeping them ( six bunnies + parents eek Wink that's a handful, not to mention a lot of pooh)

FernieB · 12/12/2015 11:49

Squeeeeeee! Gorgeous cutesy ickle wickle fluffely scamps. How do you get anything done with them around to coo over?
