that is very true, but if you are there before school ends on a Monday you'll probably be able to get the attention of someone sensible (the worst place to buy mac is in selfridges I think as it is always overrun with shrieking teenagers argh)

also you can always just swatch things on your own hands before allowing the scary ladies near you with their brushes, so you already have some idea of what you like - then they might suggest lunatic clever things to put with them

msboogie · 16/05/2010 12:41

This thread is very helpful. I am supposed to be off to Italy in 3 weeks for my sister's wedding (volcanos permitting) and being on the wrong side of 40 and not having had a proper night's sleep for 20 months means I really need to get myself in hand.

So far it seems I will definitely need to buy;

Beauty Flash Balm
This works Leg Oil
NARS bronzer (is this the best one?)
A tinted moisturiser/foundation to mix with moisturiser

I definitely need a nude lipstick - I have thin lips and need to make the most of them - any recommendations for good ones that aren't gone in seconds??

I was thinking of the new Estee Lauder sunshine godess eyeshadow in the intense blue

msboogie · 16/05/2010 12:46

Here is a recommendation:

as an inner eye liner use this flesh coloured pencil. It is really good at getting rid of redness and opening up the eye and is much more subtle than white eyeliner

MayorNaze · 16/05/2010 12:47

oh i know what the prob is acquavit, it is that i am trying to wear the same look from when i used to do "out" ie 10 years ago

and don't do "out" often enough to do aything about it, am sure i have bemoaned the tranny look on here before.

ah well, fresh faced every day slap it'll have to be...

re blusher i have a teeny tiny pot of bourjois stuff...is just called mini bourjois blush 07 - am pale and sallow looking but this is v natural

on my keys i also have mini bourjois lipgloss as keyring, gosh am such a tart

DecorHate · 16/05/2010 16:11

Su - the eyeliner you reccied on the OP - did you mean Estee Lauder rather than Liz Arden?? Was trying to check it out today (same eye colour as you)

Has anyone else tried & loved Dove Pro-Age shampoo & conditioner? Just started using it a few days ago and it has made my hair so shiny, silky & fuller. And on offer in loads of places.

WhatsAllThisThen · 16/05/2010 16:17

I have a question!

I have been tempted by l'Oreal primer. But would it go on over or under my beauty flash balm?

brimfull · 16/05/2010 16:46

i have come to the conclusion that Clarins beauty flash balm makes me look crap.
Don't know if it suits my combo skin.
Makes me look ill .

Today I tried the mixing it with foundation and dh nearly called 999 when he saw me.

brimfull · 16/05/2010 16:47

the problem with primer is that it pills if you rub too much stuff over it.
so you end up with little white blobs all over your face

msboogie · 16/05/2010 16:50

aaarrrgghhh don't say that ggirl - I have just ordered some!

brimfull · 16/05/2010 16:52

what -beauty flash balm?

Lulumaam · 16/05/2010 16:53

Personalyl , I have found every clinique foundation has gone like blobby sawdust on my skin and settled into every pore and looked patchy and horrible

Heathcliffscathy · 16/05/2010 16:55

ooo, have green eyes does that mean that i should get the lizarden doublewear eyeliner described in OP? is bday soon...

Lulumaam · 16/05/2010 16:56

hello sophable

msboogie · 16/05/2010 16:59

yup just ordered some BFB after reading on here that it is fab!

I need more holiday makeup!

janeite · 16/05/2010 17:00

Gggirl - are you trying to rub it in? Just pat it on.

brimfull · 16/05/2010 17:01

well if you find it makes you look ill as well you can always use it as a face mask apparently

brimfull · 16/05/2010 17:02

well today as I had mixed it with foundation I rubbed it in

but I have out it on under foundation by patting on and still looks shit

janeite · 16/05/2010 17:04

When I mix it with foundation I use a teeny bit - about half a pea size - plus an even teenier bit of foundation (the smallest spit that will come out of the bottle) and I pat it across nose, chin and centre bit of face only.

Have never tried it as a face mask.

brimfull · 16/05/2010 17:06

hmm i used a good few more peas
maybe I am overdoing it

NomDePlume · 16/05/2010 17:15

the only lipsticks I have that I wear regularly are a Tesco Barbara Daly nude one and a Boots 17 sheer moisture one in a pinky tone (berry silk) which was a total bargain at something stupid like £4. The Tesco one was prob less than a fiver too.

Lipglosses I rate Dior and YSL

fishie · 16/05/2010 17:18

lulu and indeed all of you, try the art supplies limited edition stuff if there's any left. i've got the eyeliner in industrial and greasepaint in charred mauve. both are fantastic, don't budge at all and really lovely colours.

i've got givenchy phenomeyes mascara in navy but am patiently waiting for horrid borgouis one to run out. i might crack it open tomorrow.

Celery · 16/05/2010 17:19

I have the Barbara Daly nude lipstick too, and wear it nearly every day.

Sparkletastic · 16/05/2010 17:20

Was someone asking about this?

www.boots.com/en/LOreal-Paris-Studio-Secrets-Smoothing-Resurfacing-Primer_947702/

It is bluddy brilliant on my skin (freckly, pores the size of handbags, greasy t-zone) - really smoothes out wrinkles, dewy not greasy, and makes my BB stick foundation glide on even more smoothly....

msboogie · 16/05/2010 17:22

I have no mascara at the moment - my DS posted mine down a hole in the floorboards and I can't get it back. DP can't see it down the hole so he doesn't believe its down there and refuses to lift the floorboard for me.

Its so not a good look to have full make up on and no mascara.

Sparkletastic · 16/05/2010 17:22

And I got the greige colour Nails Inc varnish with the Boots Coke offer (think it is called London) and it is fab - oddly flattering if nail varnish can be.
