I can't wear them. My legs are stumpy enough as it is.

justallovertheplace · 12/04/2010 09:51

yep
Whenever I put mine on, it runs through my head that I am 'a mum putting on my converse'. But I simply will not do trainers so they are the only thing available, no?
But they are pink and comfortable so I don't care really. I will admit I'm looking forward to getting some sandals and wearing them to death though

SuSylvester · 12/04/2010 09:52

mine are navy and or grey ( seaosnal natch)

they look fantastic on my 9 yr old dd. I feel a bit silly in them, tho

brimfull · 12/04/2010 09:53

I have never tried them on
they look to narrow for my toes

thisisyesterday · 12/04/2010 09:54

really? that sucks. i still have my first pair i bought when i was 19 so i could be just like Kurt Cobain (but a bit more alive)

i can't believe they are now a "mum" shoe!?!??!!?

brimfull · 12/04/2010 09:54

my dd hates them on her-she's 18 , bizarre eh

mrsjuan · 12/04/2010 09:54

brimfull · 12/04/2010 09:55

i'll slap her

SuSylvester · 12/04/2010 09:56

dd's got legs that go on forever & she wears superslim jeans. she has converse in lime green and red... not fair!!

justallovertheplace · 12/04/2010 10:01

But I am young.
But by very virtue of being a mother, by wearing converse I look tryhard. I wonder if I were young and childfree I would wear them though? The depressing answer is probably not. I would, naturally, be swanning around in my Very Important Job in the latest louboutins.

LadyBiscuit · 12/04/2010 10:02

I have been wearing them for 20 odd years. I'm not going to stop so there

SuSylvester · 12/04/2010 10:02

no i dont think its anythign to do with that
i think originally they were a teen thing
nwo middle aged white stuff

arf

or even JOULES

OP posts:
cariboo · 12/04/2010 10:03

I have white slip-on ones[blush}

justallovertheplace · 12/04/2010 10:05

A teenege friend once told me they were the only thing that would allow you to climb lampposts with anti hooligan paint. Anyone care to try?

Francagoestohollywood · 12/04/2010 10:07

I think converse are a "classic", not a cliche.

They are not "mum shoes" here in Italy.

PatsyStone · 12/04/2010 10:14

I'm not middle aged, and I will NOT be buying anything from Joules in the near or far distant future and I love my converse! I've had christ knows how many pairs over the years, and I can't think of any other mums at the school who wear them.

I will concede that my choice of colour is getting more conservative as the years roll by though.

Agree they are a classic.

Rockbird · 12/04/2010 10:16

I confess that I took the neon pink laces out of mine and replaced them with black ones

TigerFeet · 12/04/2010 10:28

god i love converse

but they are too narrow for my flipper feet

i want a red pair

i also want these

LadyThompson · 12/04/2010 10:34

PLEASE let them not be a Mum shoe. I am 37. I am a mum, admittedly, but I think that's still quite young

LaurieFairyCake · 12/04/2010 10:38

I was going to buy a pair this week.

Until dd's friend came round in a pair yesterday (aged 12).

I said "ooh, those are the expensive ones".

She said "yeah, they were forty quid but everyone has them now".

GetOrfMoiLand · 12/04/2010 10:41

I have got the Superdry dconverse style shoes, in grey.

I did have black converse by dd borrowed them on a non-return basis. Tbh I didn't mind - I think converse are pretty uncomfortable (Superdry more padded so more comfprtable).

I did feel like a 30s woman cliche anyway with straight leg jeans and breton top.

cyb · 12/04/2010 10:45

look, we all wear a version of the same stuff anyway, dont we?

Lulumaam · 12/04/2010 10:48

if i don't keep wearing converse, which i've been wearing for the best part of 20 freaking years, i will have to buy superga and be a Proper Mum Trying to be Young.

i have pink high tops, blue and red low tops and want white low tops, unless i buy some more birkies.

i have worn pretty much the same stuff for 2 decades ) although less tie dye and piercings these days!), about every 7 years, I am stylish !
