around where I live, I am one of a very few grown women who wear Converse

and not many youngsters either...like Meg said...the Emo's wear black/navy Converse, and then there is me in my more girly ones

I don't live in a particularly trendy area, tbh

most women round here wear Uggs or, more commonly, fake Uggs

and then in summer wear trainers or flip flops

maybe I am just special

animula · 12/04/2010 13:18

Eek.

Have been away and come back because

this thread has brought on a "Has it come to this?"* moment.

Am wearing: light-blue 'boyfriend' jeans; converse, joules 'boyfriend' cardi ... and Cath Kidston shawl/scarf.

Who dressed me this morning?

Who am I?

What happened? (And when?)

Acute existential/identity crisis has ensued.

And what will I wear if I can't wear converse?

Here in Geneva (ha!) the women wear high heels rather than converse, but they are not chasing after their DC, they have nannies to do that.

I have seen a few of the school mums down at the beach wearing them.

They are a cliché, but what is the alternative?

I bought Birkenstock to wear at home, to the horror of my DH. When I said that Heidi Klum wears Birkies, he asserted that she only wears them to advertise them.

Lol at Animula's Converse Sob Story.

ShadeofViolet · 12/04/2010 13:21

I love my converse, I have 5 pairs I only wear the shoes though, I find the boots really uncomfy.

SuSylvester · 12/04/2010 13:22

I like those tartan Superdrys.

Have never heard of Superdrys though, which probably means I shouldn't be wearing them

Luckily Converse don't fit me, so I am SAVED from tryhard mummy status.

SuSylvester · 12/04/2010 13:24

i am in boots jeggings and a long sweater
its sunny and COLD

CatIsSleepy · 12/04/2010 13:37

wtf are superdrys? they sound like a feminine hygiene product

pookamoo · 12/04/2010 13:39

I have the "cath kidston" style Superdrys...

Clary · 12/04/2010 13:51

Find myself agreeing with mejon that they are plimsolls, surely (and see my comments on another thread).

Recall Boden doing something similar last year "for those of you who would never wear trainers"!

Mind you, I did go out for the day on Saturday wearing my running shoes, because I thought wedge sandals might be asking too much of my feet.

Is this where I needed the Converse???

CiderIUpAndSetIFree · 12/04/2010 14:07

It is cold Su - I've got HUGE clumpy boots on today.

Can anyone tell me if Superdrys are wider than Converse?

LadyBiscuit · 12/04/2010 14:12

I live in London. I'm the only grown woman I know who wears them. Actually no, I have one other friend who wears them. Everyone else is floating around in Anthropologie and ballet pumps

CiderIUpAndSetIFree · 12/04/2010 14:12

ha they do Superdrys in Rock 'n' Roll flavour, that'll be me then

Rocknroll

SuSylvester · 12/04/2010 14:13

those floral things are vile
like the gazelles

OP posts:
deaddei · 12/04/2010 14:17

I bought my first pair last year when I was 49. (GREY- NICE AND SAFE)
Am thinking of pushing out the boat and getting navy ones.
I wore them in Abercrombie and Fitch this morning when I was getting down with the teens (and the naked chested man).

MmeLindt · 12/04/2010 14:18

Are Superdrys the new Converse then?

I do wish they did not sound like a brand of nappies or a new sanitary product.

"Super Dry Lo for a super dry lo"

SuSylvester · 12/04/2010 14:20

think ill wear these instead

OP posts:
deaddei · 12/04/2010 14:21

My God Su- they're hideous.

orangina · 12/04/2010 14:21

I don't think converse as particularly "mum shoes" (though maybe they are becoming part of a unifmr?)... not like keds...

(shudder)

To be worn with Mom jeans obviously....

here

SuSylvester · 12/04/2010 14:22

they are like wooolies own brand plimsolls surely

ohi LIKE the gazelles now

My brother, who works in IT, says that all the fat, 40+ year old men in his office wear Superdry to try and look trendy!

MayorNaze · 12/04/2010 14:26

i have no converse.

but i have dunlop green flash. they are about 10 years old so must be vintage (extra points, no?)?

i think we must be ultra-posh/fashionable/unfashionable round my way as the last few days i have been marvellng at the amount of women in HEELS in parks

though today i was mostly marvelling at the 40 year old with fake tan, hot pants, bare legs and uggs

SuSylvester · 12/04/2010 14:28

lol superdry started on hereford market afaik

OP posts:
OrmRenewed · 12/04/2010 14:30
