But surely they're just daps? And bloody expensive ones at that. Don't your feet get all sweaty in them too?

TheMysticMasseuse · 12/04/2010 11:04

I love converse, i have loved them since i was 9 years old.

unfortunately, i can no longer wear them as i injured my Achilles tendon wearing them, and now can only wear sensible shoes with a 2 inch heel

AnyFucker · 12/04/2010 11:05

I have been wearing Converse for 20 years

I am not gonna stop now...I don't care what everyone else is doing

I have 4 pairs of them...ubiquitous plain navy; white with mad graffiti; lime green with flies crawling all over them and khaki with flames on the side

I always get complimented on them and mine are pretty unique (apart form the navy)

SuSylvester · 12/04/2010 11:07

i wonder if comedy converse are worse.

Think you're right.

Love my converse, and have done since discovering the Ramones (that's how old I am). And when I was a vegan, they were the only possible footwear.

I remember the sneaking feeling of horror/delight I felt when I spotted them on the feet of a yummy mummy being interviewed in vogue, and then their rise through mummy-culture.

They are a ubiquitous mummy shoe now - and I think their days are numbered.

Which is sad - because they will now be left on the shores as the tide goes out, but slightly salt-marked for having been abandoned by the mummies.

I'm wearing mine in a slightly forlorn way right now.

animula · 12/04/2010 11:18

Ooh. And I'm wearing a Joules cardi, too.

Eek!

SuSylvester · 12/04/2010 11:19

I only have red hi tops and white lo tops at the moment but I want some new ones for the summer - plaid or oxford blue I think

stripeyknickersspottysocks · 12/04/2010 11:22

They#re going to get even more common popular as Amy Pond is going to start wearing them. Burgendy hi-tops as well, same as mine.

GetOrfMoiLand · 12/04/2010 11:23

I was never allowed trainers - I had to sneakily buy them and hide them.

'They will make your feet spread' said my gran.

Was allowed deck shoes from Freeman Hardy Willis however (cheers).

Was all saved by fashion however when Doc Martins when I was 14, I was allowed those, inexplicably. And they were steel toe capped.

animula · 12/04/2010 11:28

Su - furtive shoes. Slightly shifty about their part in committing a, completely unironic, sartorial cliche. And resigned to the fact tomorrow will be just the same.

MarthaFarquhar · 12/04/2010 11:28

i did think SamCam was the final nail in the coffin for mine.

have defected for adidas gazelles (got red and also navy)

they also much more waterproof, which is a considerable bonus in this part of the country

franke · 12/04/2010 11:35

I love my converse. I've had my grey ones for over 10 years. I've just bought a new pair in black and white plaid - I know.

Here in Germany they're €65 so I had them sent from the UK for 30 quid all in

SuSylvester · 12/04/2010 12:55

right back home from the shops.
mums in converse count=3

dexter73 · 12/04/2010 13:03

Did you spot me in mine while you were out shopping?!

SuSylvester · 12/04/2010 13:04

one in purple
one in silver sequins braying slightly to her 10 thousand kids
and one in blue

OP posts:
traceybath · 12/04/2010 13:11

What about ash?

CatIsSleepy · 12/04/2010 13:13

well they probably are a cliche, but what are you supposed to wear instead?

i love 'em, I can just walk into a shop and buy a new pair without even trying them on

MegBusset · 12/04/2010 13:14

Is it a regional thing? ALL the mums around here wear pumps and leggings. It's just me and the emo kids in our Converse.
