Am considering a No Jeans month - anyone with me?

Adair · 08/04/2010 19:46

I honestly believe I am really a very funky, slim, young, sexy 30 year old
HIDING
in frump and JEANS.
every day. jeans, jeans, jeans (nice flattering jeans - including my £1.79 Miss Sixty charity shop bargains but still...)

Was considering having a month of banning jeans. NO JEANs for a month- wear anything else... designed to kick me up the bum into wearing something different in my wardrobe (and usually as a result bothering with make-up etc). Having haircut tomorrow and going out so might be a nice day to start (eek, no jeans for going out...)

Anyone with me?

I never wear jeans, so I'll be having a no-jeans month regardless; count me in

Pinkmarshmallow · 08/04/2010 20:30

I never wear 'em either so I'm in. Get a nice short denim skirt and you'll feel funky in that, but still within your comfort zone iykwim. I'm lovin colourful open cardis over a t-shirt with mine this weather.

Adair · 08/04/2010 20:51

Ok, well you two can inspire me. Have just bought tights in lots of different colours (because of that damn wedding, tethersend )

Pinkmarshmallow, have been searching for a simple short denim skirt for ages.. am shopping tomorrow so will look out.

Already have:
-grey flippy skirt (tiers but light grey and casual)
-just-on-the-knee length very flattering tweed-y type skirt. grey again (but with lots of colours)
-very short graphic floral mini
er... maybe a couple of dresses... will have to see what gets discovered from the depths of the wardrobe..!

Pinkmarshmallow · 08/04/2010 21:31

love the sound of all you have already.
Have fun shopping tomorrow!

tethersend · 08/04/2010 22:05

Oooh, what did you wear to the wedding in the end?

Adair · 09/04/2010 09:08

Cool, right today am wearing
purple tights
black v-neck sweater dress - very body-con!
green crochet shrug thing (cos of the v body con thing...)

feel great!

But I have shoe ishoos. Will wear black boots today but I need something to replace my converse... any ideas for something easy and comfy to look out for that looks good with skirts? I have hot pink flats but think purple/green and pink may be a bit much today .

(Tethersend, for the wedding I wore the crochet dress with navy tights, hot pink shoes & bag and flower headband. I might have had a hot pink cardie but didn't really wear it)

I did this a while ago and it changed my life! Banned myself from jeans and magically discovered all these lovely, barely worn clothes in my wardrobe. It made me much more creative about putting outfits together, and I enjoyed dressing so much more. I try to limit jeans to once or twice a week now.

On the shoe front, I love ankle boots with skirts at the moment, wedges too, although it's hard to find non-ugly ones these days.

Pinkmarshmallow · 09/04/2010 11:59

You're off to a great start, Adair!

Talkin of hot pink cardis, I got a long-ish hot pink cardi a few weeks ago, not sure why , brought it home and DH said "that's VERY pink"....and now I'm scared to wear it! What will I wear it with?

VerityBrulee, I'm also being much more creative in putting outfits together and enjoying getting dressed each morning...my trick is I've started putting my clothes - skirt/cardis etc away in wardrobe when I take them of at night instead of jut throwing them over a chair/washbasket.... that way I don't just grab the same old thing every morning after my shower, I actually have to think a bit and try to pick something different from the wardrobe. But maybe you're all more organised than me and do this already!

Hmmm... footwear in this weather is hard. I got some natural colour glossy tights, 10 denier and am wearing kinda ballet shoe pump things, but I've v narrow feet and normal ones just don't stay on so they have a strap across them which doesn't look so nice. These ones are new and giving me blisters Missing my boots already. I'm not the best for shoe advice, really... I like flats and I have to be able to walk all day in them.

On an up-note, isn't the weather gorgeous? Enough to keep us inspired to make an efort...

Adair, looking forward to hearing all about your shopping trip today and what all you bought... I'm jealous!

birdsandblossoms · 09/04/2010 12:16

ha, I recently wore jeans again for the first time, having gone... about four months? without wearing them (or any other trousers). I maybe wore them once during that time.

I wore them again just now because I have a top that specifically goes well with jeans (a tunic that's too short and principal-boyish for leggings). But jeans and blackorgreyorbrown top, day in day out - no more.

birdsandblossoms, that sounds fantastic.

MrsVidic · 09/04/2010 17:33

can I join too- I am wearing this with belt and glaiator sandels

Adair · 09/04/2010 18:48

Ooh birdsandblossoms, sounds lovely. Love teal. Mrsvidic, I am lusting after maxi dresses at the moment... hmmm...

Pinkmarshmallow, I like flats too. Am thinking maybe some conversey pumps - like this though not so girly. My shopping trip (was not supposed to be for me- is dd's birthday so supposed to be buying party bits [blush)

I bought
-a black net mini-skirt with roses all over (appealed to the goth in me. think it may be v tacky, was a fiver)
-a black flippy short dress with a ruffly collar and empire line (charity shop £2.89)

  • a proper Freya bra, that fits and everything !!!

Oh, and I wore the hot pink flats in the end... looked, er... directional I think but they gave me blisters so can't wear them out tonight. Got to go and decide what to wear (not jeans )!

MrsVidic · 09/04/2010 19:40

I got this belt to match and these shoes

HalfMumHalfBiscuit · 09/04/2010 20:05

Hi I'm watching your progress as am annoyed with myself for always wearing jeans. I have a 6 mo and don't quite fit in my normal clothes (except 2 pairs jeans and baggy tops) and can't easily get to shops due to DC's. I am a bit lost in fashion IYKWIM.

Am I allowed to wear combats? They're back I think??

Tortington · 09/04/2010 21:36

no i wear a suit all week - i want jeans - i can't imagine life without them

Adair · 10/04/2010 11:31

Hmmm... halfmum, combats count as jeans in my rule- think it depends if they are the lazy option or not. My rule at the beginning of the year (am like you, have changed figure so much) was not to wear anything I wasn't 100% happy with. And to make a big pile for charity shop! Though Ruby, combats may be your answer! Or wear shorts/miniskirt and boots- legs easier to clean/dry than clothes (so they told me in the Guides).

Custardo, I am SAHM (well, mostly) so no suits to break up the monotony of jeans, jeans, jeans everyday (ok, well, I wear trousers one day a week at work... but still). IS working for me to make me a bit less invisible.

Wore the charity shop dress last night with fab REd or Dead shoes from ten years ago I never wear.

It was so tempting to pull jeans on this morning but resisted and so, today am wearing a summer dress (think it's in my profile - though boobs not so eek with my new bra) with a dark cardi and teal flats. I have so many clothes in my wardrobe I don't wear!

Mrsvidic, think I may have to get a maxi skirt/dress - used to wear them all the time in the grungey 90s (with tight children's t-shirts [blush). Am small so might be dwarfed, but hey, who cares - fashion is fun!

Pinkmarshmallow · 10/04/2010 11:57

MrsVidic, dress, belt, shoes all lovely....are your feet not freezing though?

Rubyrubyruby what did you end up wearing to the football match? I'm going camping next weekend so will have a similar problem.

Adair, love the conversey pumps but alas, they would never stay on my feet, they'd slip up and down.

MrsVidic · 10/04/2010 12:16

I'm wearing the same dress today with trainers (as I've done a 4 mile walk) and preppy blazer. I love the dress- Adair- just get it- only £15 and worth every penny!

I'd do summer dress/ short denim with 3/4 leggins for camping

crumpette · 10/04/2010 12:43

Hmm I wear jeans every day, every day it's do I wear black/grey/blue jeans and which black top!!! I must reform, can I start tomorrow?

Adair · 10/04/2010 20:00

Yes, crumpette, come along! It's fun and quite inspiring.
I would get that dress in navy tbh Mrsvidic, I really like it. Might check in person - they don;t have size (can't buy anything online anyway without trying on)would prob have to take it up though.

These accidentally fell in my basket in Sainsbury's they're a bit like this but brighter green and white lace. Only a fiver... though may end up taking them back.

OP posts:
Pinkmarshmallow · 10/04/2010 21:14

Lol at "accidentally fell over my basket".... I must remember that line to tell DH some day Love those pumps, Adair.

Crumpette, you gotta have some tops other than black to wear, surely? Tell us what's lurking at the back of your wardrobe...

MrsV you're tempting me with that dress too, love it.

I have a confession to make. I was out doing very dirty work in the garden today and wore trackie bottoms and an ugly old fleece. oh, and wellies about 15yrs old. Got splattered in mud from head to toe though, so would have looked rather stupid in a dress or floaty skirt . Hope I'm not kicked off this thread for that?!

crumpette · 11/04/2010 12:58

Ehem.. I failed. On this lovely sunny day I went out wearing dark jeans and a black top Sorry
OK the reform starts tomorrow. I do have other coloured tops to wear and loads of dresses and skirts etc, I think my fear is my shockingly pale legs being visible to the public. And then I have an extreme phobia of fake tan after an orange-streak experience when I was 15 so I avoid it, bit of a vicious circle !
