Am considering a No Jeans month - anyone with me?

Adair · 08/04/2010 19:46

I honestly believe I am really a very funky, slim, young, sexy 30 year old
HIDING
in frump and JEANS.
every day. jeans, jeans, jeans (nice flattering jeans - including my £1.79 Miss Sixty charity shop bargains but still...)

Was considering having a month of banning jeans. NO JEANs for a month- wear anything else... designed to kick me up the bum into wearing something different in my wardrobe (and usually as a result bothering with make-up etc). Having haircut tomorrow and going out so might be a nice day to start (eek, no jeans for going out...)

Anyone with me?

what happened?

oh Riven, I would ... am in London though. Am happy to do virtual shopping and bombard you with links though? think we look very similar - age, size, height, colouring etc - so should be easy?

Pinkmarshmallow · 11/04/2010 15:43

Oh tut tut, crumpette .... yes, you must start tomorrow! Let this gorgeous weather be your inspiration! Know exactly what you mean about the white leg thing tho...I've that prob too, in fact this morning, I said to DH that I'm so pale I look ill. I don't use a proper fake tan for fear of looking ridiculously orange but use a tinted moisturiser like the Dove one, they are good and not orange.

Awww Riven, there's an offer from LTEC that you just can't refuse! Who better could you get an offer like that from?! Go on... I don't really know you too well, but from what I gather, a little fun shoppig online and a few new treats for your wardrobe would do you the world of good!

Today I'm in a green, white and brown kaftan dress from Apricot, can't link as their website doesn't have it on it. Also got on my fitflops for the first time. Feel nice and summery.

janeite · 11/04/2010 15:48

Brilliant idea. I never used to wear jeans but have fallen into a pattern even though I KNOW I look better in skirts and dresses. Am in jeans today, as I haven't been out but I will try and do the rest of this week (in the first instance) without them.

Tomorrow I think I will go for a flippy silk over the knee skirt - but can I still wear tights?

Pinkmarshmallow · 11/04/2010 16:00

janeite, that sounds lovely. Let the weather dictates the tights or not...

Thanks Pinkmarshmallow - if it's to warm for tights, I wouldn't wear a short skirt - only on holiday!

janeite · 11/04/2010 16:07

toO warm

Pinkmarshmallow · 11/04/2010 18:18

in my earlier post I meant to say kimono dress...knew at the time kaftan was wrong but couldn't think of the right word!

HalfMumHalfBiscuit · 11/04/2010 19:47

Yes I wore jeans again today but got a couple of things from asda to help the situation.

this dress and a really long cardigan and this in coral.

however, you would have to prod me with a cattle prod to get me in them tomorrow as Ihave low self esteem due to tummy issues and lack of a clue on what to put with anything. I have no leggings but I did buy coloured tights today.

Have no 'trendy' footwear. Just basic knee length brown boots and some brown non-trendy ankle boots.

I will have to make a trip to town to get some decent stuff (must be when DS back at school though .

Adair · 11/04/2010 20:40

Oh halfmumhalfbiscuit, that dress is lovely! your mission tomorrow is to make sure you like everything you wear - if that means trying on 5 tops (or wearing the dress!) then do it.

(I cheated today too, wore cropped jeans with a dress and sparkly cardi. I need some leggings I think)

Riven, what size are you? I;m sure lots of us have clothes we will be getting rid of with this exercise - I could send you the dress I wore yesterday as it just doesn't suit me (started off feeling fabulous but think it is too light for me really)!

Crumpette, you could try the Holiday Skin stuff but in all honesty about 6 years ago, I decided to get over my fear of exposing my glow-in-the-dark legs and now just do it anyway. Haven't blinded anyone yet .

HalfMumHalfBiscuit · 11/04/2010 22:28

Adair - Thanks. I will try my best to wear something that is not jeans and something I like.

I may also have to try Holiday Skin before I reveal my legs to the world until then its tights all the way.

MrsVidic · 12/04/2010 13:03

today I am wearing denim mini with leggins- as its a wee bit chilly up here! On top I have nautical stripy cardigan with red tshirt!

This challegne is doing wonders for confidence!

crumpette · 12/04/2010 13:30

OK I have ordered some tanning daily moisturiser stuff online, spent a small fortune so it had better work miracles, then I shall have no excuse not to expose legs to world

I have cheated a bit today, in that I am wearing a black jersey dress, yes yes black jersey again, but no denim anywhere. It was very difficult to not automatically jump into jeans. I may have to hide them. Wearing a light green fine knit sequined (not blingy though) lk bennett cardigan over the top with sentimental connections- haven't braved the outside world yet (on maternity leave stuck at laptop BFing) but didn't give random lady at door too much of fright with my partially exposed legs

'jeggings' would also be ruled out, yes?

HalfMumHalfBiscuit · 12/04/2010 14:40

crumpette am also stuck at laptop feeding. You'll have to ask the OP whether you are allowed jeggings. Maybe in non blue colours??

I have on today my grey skinny ahem jeans (the only trousers I have apart from work ones and blue jeans and trakky pants OK!), a long tshirt top with butterfly on it and red cardi as above and flat red shoes.

I will have to get some leggings to wear with dresses/long tshirts. I do have good legs but they are a kinda pale blue as billy connely used to say.

I am chomping at the bit to go shopping on wed when DS back in school!

Adair · 12/04/2010 17:31

\hey, glad other people are enjoying this challenge too!

I so so nearly put on jeans today but resisted and wore blue tights with my green star dress, a green jumper and brown ankle boots. I like to think Alexa Chung, more likely eccentric old lady

RE the RULES. FOr me, it's about not taking the lazy option so I sort of allowed myself croped jeans yesterday as I had to think about them but not pulling them back on today as it would have been lazy iykwim. So only you will know whether jeggings will become substitute jeans/don't think about it clothes or a part of your stylish wardrobe!!

My shopping list has
-leggings
-maxi dress/skirt
-ballet type trainers, I saw someone wear some today and thought THAT's the answer to my converse problem. Will take Sains ones back...

Good luck shoppers!!!!

OP posts:
HalfMumHalfBiscuit · 12/04/2010 18:06

my shopping list is

leggings
skirt
boots/sandals
tops/dress that are forgiving around the midrif
boyfriend cardi in neutral colour
jacket?

list getting a bit massive .

MrsVidic · 12/04/2010 18:30

Adair- you sound very stylish! I think this challenge is suck a good idea as I usually live in jeans and no makeup- so I'm wearing makeuup most days too!

HalfMumHalfBiscuit- Leggigns are really cheap from Newlook or matalan- I like 3/4 leggins for the summer.
Tesco have some really nice, flattering short denim skirts - short but not stupidly short liek topshop! They make your legs look really long!

HalfMumHalfBiscuit · 12/04/2010 20:13

well done mrsvidic for wearing make-up, thats the one thing I am good at. Used to do all my mates eye make up when we went out .

DD has just been sick on my lovely butterfly t-shirt .

I have been browsing RiverIsland website. Lots of lovely things. Will also check out Newlook for leggings.

Pinkmarshmallow · 12/04/2010 22:04

Ballet type trainers... that sounds like just what I need.I also saw someone wearing some today and wondered where I can get them... let me know if you find any and where! That's all really that's on my shopping list at the mo, apart from a few essential basic t-shirts. THanks.

Adair · 13/04/2010 08:06

I want these in a pale colour...

I LOVE these. But sadly don't think I could quite carry them off...

Will possibly get these. Nicer versions of the Sainsburys ones!

stillfrazzled · 13/04/2010 09:36

Am sitting here in jeans and tempted to join you all. Have Gap skinny chinos which are crying out for more use, and some dresses.

Skirts a problem, though. Where would you get a nice (cheap ) flippy denim skirt?

Adair · 13/04/2010 10:33

Do it stillfrazzled, it forces you to be creative!

Am wearing a purple cord skirt and black v-neck 3-quarter sleeve jumper today with navy tights and brown ankle boots I bought very recently.

Have decided to not buy ballet trainers as we can't really afford to - and have lots of things already. Have a new pair of hi-top converse in my wardrobe - never worn (from schuh, so could take back...)

HalfMumHalfBiscuit · 13/04/2010 10:35

Bravely going without jeans today. It is sunny but breezy so am in grey stretchy skirt (left over from when preggers with tights in leu of fake tan on legs and blue and white stripy top.

Bumped into trendy young mum yesterday and she was in white linen trousers with blue and white striped top (from New Look she said). Looked great.

stillfrazzled - cheap trendy stuff abounds in asda, newlook, tesco, littlewoods and sainsburies so it seems.

maybe a bit short for you at newlook

tesco

also seems to be a few at

dotty p's

Just building up to my shopping expidition tomorrow .
