Am considering a No Jeans month - anyone with me?

Adair · 08/04/2010 19:46

I honestly believe I am really a very funky, slim, young, sexy 30 year old
HIDING
in frump and JEANS.
every day. jeans, jeans, jeans (nice flattering jeans - including my £1.79 Miss Sixty charity shop bargains but still...)

Was considering having a month of banning jeans. NO JEANs for a month- wear anything else... designed to kick me up the bum into wearing something different in my wardrobe (and usually as a result bothering with make-up etc). Having haircut tomorrow and going out so might be a nice day to start (eek, no jeans for going out...)

Anyone with me?

mum + white linen trousers =

halfmum, your outfit sounds great! It's nice to do something out of a rut, isn't it?

(reading earlier comments - would love to think I was stylish. I think I am more 'Oh my GOd wHAT is SHE WEARING' but tbh those are the outfits I always like best!!!)

HalfMumHalfBiscuit · 13/04/2010 11:03

Perhaps white linen trew are not a good idea when trying to wean DD.

AvadaKedavra · 13/04/2010 11:56

As of tomorrow I promise to not wear my jeans again for a month - am intrigued to see if I can do it!

Would have started today but already got dressed in cropped denims and a pretty tunic from DP (although mine is light grey) with jewelled grey satin ballet pumps.

Have the day off so will go upstairs and sort out all my jeans and get DH to put them in the garage somwhere so I am not tempted!

Tomorrow I will wear leggings with this top and a boyfriend cardi as I need my shoulders out as getting a tattoo

Strictly a Primark/Peacocks/George/New Look/DP/Next shopper here, no designer stuff for me, budget won't allow, so apologies if not stylish enough

Adair · 13/04/2010 12:03

HEllo Avada, nice top! I think we are all Primark/Peacocks/SAinsburys/bargain shoppers on this thread. I did buy my £50 Clarks boots a couple of months ago - but that is the most I have ever spent on a pair of shoes !! At the moment my budget for clothes this month is about £4.50...

stillfrazzled · 13/04/2010 12:16

Right, I'm definitely in. No more jeans for a month (will wear jeggings if occasion calls for them, but promise not to rely on them).

AvadaKedavra · 13/04/2010 12:18

Your budget sounds rather like mine Adair Going to have a hunt around the charidee shops tomorrow too and see if I can find any flippy skirts

boogeek · 13/04/2010 12:19

I'll be in too - but I am still losing baby weight and can't actually fit into 80% of my wardrobe, so I can't start just yet I will begin with 2 no-jeans days a week, starting tomorrow.

AvadaKedavra · 13/04/2010 13:14

boogeek, I have lots of weight to lose but am still determined to do this, there's no rule that overweight people must live in jeans

boogeek · 13/04/2010 13:35

No I know but given that my baby is only 3 months I am not quite ready to invest in a whole new wardrobe of larger clothes, iyswim! Denim seems to squeeze better than other fabrics so I can get into pre-pg jeans but other trousers look appallingly sausage-like and skirts don't even fasten.

Pinkmarshmallow · 13/04/2010 19:28

Hello all newcomers! I'm surprised and pleased at the popularity of this thread.

Adair, the new you I'm sure could carry off those second gorgeous shoes you linked to.

Today I'm wearing a short Next grey a purple tiered rose print skrirt with a purple waterfall cardi (well, I say watrfall, but actually a modified wrap top...last week I unpicked the tie cords and sewed up the hole so now it hangs open and looks like a waterfall cardi...quite pleased with the transfomation and like my "new" cardi to wear that I haven't worn for years! In fact, I had been considering putting it in my charity pile before this thread! ) Natural tights as it;s chilly here today and flat grey pump things. Got a compliment on my outfit even!

I ordered these today...whaddya think?

AvadaKedavra · 13/04/2010 20:14

They look comfy I am in love with these Clarks shoes but DH says they look too little girl and I had a bad experience with some other Clarks last summer and they ripped my feet to shreds

I'm on a mission tomorrow to find a pretty flippy skirt and a new pair of ballet pumps as mine are looking a tad worse for wear now. Anyone seen any pretty but cheap ones?

Adair · 13/04/2010 20:18

yes!! Those shoes are great and look v comfy. Oh, and I said I wasn't going to buy any shoes...

If I had £45 I prob would buy the Missy Adidas ones Pinkmarshmallow, tbh. I like them so much - the crazy gold crown and everything! If I took the Schuh ones back, I;d have £35 so they'd only be a tenner (justifying). But I don't think I'd be able to keep them box-fresh as they say . And those trainers NEED to be box-fresh...

Loving your creative urges too. This is what I am enjoying most (am kinda nicking from the 'don't buy anything' thread from earlier this year) - finding things in my wardrobe I haven't worn for ages/ever and combining them too in new ways.

OP posts:
HalfMumHalfBiscuit · 13/04/2010 20:22

boogeek - I think afew of us are post baby. Which is why I'm not spending lots of cash on clothes as God only knows what size I am now and going to be next month IYKWIM .

And another thing... after wearing maternity clothes for months and then having a post baby wierd shape I have not a clue what the hell is fashionable, or what suits me any more and what will fit in with maternity leave/school run type lifestyle followed by doing part time office based job in a few months. Plus the above body changing issue, boobs massive now, due to be flat later this year. .

Rant over sorry.

Pinkmarshmallow - like the pumps.

Pinkmarshmallow · 13/04/2010 20:22

AK I also love those Clarks shoes but my DH would say the exact same as yours! About those other ones...that's good to know. I tried them on today and they look ok but I think they're too chunky for wearing with skirts.

I'd recomend my tiered flippy skirt but it's no longer on the Next website, they must be sold out or something.

Adair · 13/04/2010 20:28

Avada, I like New Look for cheap not-too-cheap-looking shoes. Got some hot pink ballet flats there.

Love this skirt

or this

Think am too old for New Look now!!

Lots of flippy reasonable length skirts, I particularly like the charcoal broderie one.

ooh pretty

OP posts:
Adair · 13/04/2010 20:34

Halfmum, I am same as you. Used to be able to buy perfectly from ebay/or from charity shop without trying on, now have no clue what size I am even!! and we don;t have the money/can't justify spending loads on clothes either. So trying to find things in my wardrobe that DO still look alright (tried to fit my size 8 cords today - nope. no way )

Btw my Freya bra has totally, totally been worth it. Have been searching for a decent bra since giving up breastfeeding last August! And this is it. So when the time comes - search Freya (was £29 so not dreadfully expensive).

Pinkmarshmallow · 13/04/2010 20:37

Charcoal broderie my fave too out of those, Adair....the kinda skirt u could wear in autumn/winter too with opaques and boots.

Pinkmarshmallow · 13/04/2010 20:40
AvadaKedavra · 13/04/2010 23:01

Another vote for the charcol broderie here lol

Adair if you are big of nork and get on with Freya, check out Panache too.

crumpette · 14/04/2010 11:18

I'm not wearing jeans today, frightfully chilly though it is I am wearing a black top (yes yes I know) with some wide legged grey cotton chinoy trousers from gap bought last summer and sme muted light gold ballet pumps. I feel much better than in jeans. Hurrah!

crumpette · 14/04/2010 11:22

And yesterday I wore a 5 year old french connection black and red skirt with black top.. and I even braved the outside world (briefly) in it. OK I almost ran past people I know, but didnt feel too silly once I was there. The moisturiser has made my legs look less scary- and I'm not orange yet, but I did put some all over and didn't wait for it to dry so the rest of me looks patchy (aaagh) but let's hope it fades v quickly

stillfrazzled · 14/04/2010 11:24

Cos it's freezing today, am wearing blue knitted dress (angora mix, cosy), cream lace edged vest, blue jeggings and black Mols.

Although this was my uniform for most of the winter so is not exactly a brave new world

crumpette · 14/04/2010 11:25

I actually forgot I owned half the clothes I have unearthed in boxes in the bottom of a forgotten wardrobe. Am 3 months post DC so never thought they'd fit but it's suprising how many things do, despite me weighing 2 stone more than when I bought them

crumpette · 14/04/2010 11:27

stillfrazzled- well done, no jeans in sight!
