How often do you wash your hair?

I was at the hairdressers today, as my colour was fading again.

She asked me how often I wash my hair and I said every other day and she said that's why my colour fades so quickly, and that she only washes her hair once a week

Her hair always looks fab though, whereas mine always looks greays and awful by the 3rd day. I won't leave the house at that point!

How often does everyone wash their hair??

Once a week. Twice if I have been really sweaty at the gym.

bibbitybobbityhat · 25/02/2010 19:15

Every other day. But I am a greasoid (and 47, don't think I'm ever going to grow out of it).

dexter73 · 25/02/2010 19:16

I rinse and condition my hair every day as it is curly and I look like a scarecrow if it isn't washed. I only shampoo my hair every 7-10 days.

nickytwotimes · 25/02/2010 19:16

Twice a week.
I have curls - any more often and it dries out.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 25/02/2010 19:16

Every other day, otherwise it is greasy and horrid. I don't colour mine though so I don't know whether that would make me do differently.

onepieceoflollipop · 25/02/2010 19:17

I wash mine every day but I have always had a very greasy scalp and skin. In my case I know it's not caused by over -frequent washing. As a teenager I used to leave it for several days and it was horrible by day 2.

In my defence I use very little shampoo and conditioner, just enough to freshen it up.

darksideofthemooncup · 25/02/2010 19:18

Every day if I want it to look reasonable. I don't know what I do in my sleep but I go to bed with lovely sleek hair and wake up looking like Jamie Afro and no amount of straightening makes a difference.

overmydeadbody · 25/02/2010 19:18

Every five days it gets washed. It only ever gets brushed after washing too, so only gets brushed every five days.

overmydeadbody · 25/02/2010 19:19

my hair looks it's worst the day it has been washed.

RoseWater · 25/02/2010 19:22

up til recently every day but have been trying to train mine to every other day but am convinced it smells - have discovered batiste dry shampoo for dark hair though which has been my saviour.

Have a friend who washes hers once a week - so jealous thats an extra half hour in bed every day.

abride · 25/02/2010 19:25

Batiste is brilliant.

ilovesprouts · 25/02/2010 19:26

every 1/2 days as mine gets greasy quickley

thislittlesisterlola · 25/02/2010 20:35

once a week, twice max. Please where do you buy the baliste for dark hair rose water I would quite like some its fab stuff.

MarionCole · 25/02/2010 20:38

Every fucking morning.

Otherwise I look like this

apple99 · 25/02/2010 20:46

Every other day or else it looks really dark and greasy. At a push if I use Batiste I can tie it back for an extra day but feel a bit messy. thislittlesisterlola you can buy the Batiste for dark hair at Boots.

Silvj · 25/02/2010 20:48

Every 2 to 3 days though occasionally 4 days.
Dry shampoo is one of the best things invented!

fayeso · 25/02/2010 21:00

Everymorning aswell-My hair sticks to my forehead by midday if I don,t, and it smells horrible-funnily enough I do not get greasy skin aswell, my skin is quite dry but my hair.....yuk . I try not to let people get to close if I haven,t washed it!!!!

Rebeccaruby · 25/02/2010 21:02

Every day. I can't imagine anything else. But I have very fine hair and the tiniest bit of grease makes it look lank. It depends where you live too. If you live in London, just a short walk to work might make it a bit dirty.

lola brunette or black hair

If they dont stock it in your local store you can order it for delivery

SarahMumtoAlex · 25/02/2010 21:04

I'm another that only conditions my hair (twice a week) I've never washed DS's hair with shampoo (or conditioner) and he's nearly 4 and his hair has always looked good (which is why we only rinse it) So I decided to swap to conditioner for mine and it looks so much better. I reckon shampoo is the biggest swizz going

snowmummy · 25/02/2010 21:04

Every morning

EightiesChick · 25/02/2010 21:09

Daily, because like Rebeccaruby above, I also have very fine hair that greases up quickly. But I can make an exception on a day when I'm not leaving the house. The other way to get round it is to use dry shampoo - you don't need an expensive one, Batiste is fine - to get a day or two more out of it. This does work better the lighter your hair is, though, otherwise it shows up on the scalp.
