How often do you wash your hair?

I was at the hairdressers today, as my colour was fading again.

She asked me how often I wash my hair and I said every other day and she said that's why my colour fades so quickly, and that she only washes her hair once a week

Her hair always looks fab though, whereas mine always looks greays and awful by the 3rd day. I won't leave the house at that point!

How often does everyone wash their hair??

Every 2 - 3 days, used to be daily.

Alibaba it took 8 months before mine stopped feeling minging on the second day Glad I stuck at it now though.

Agree with SarahMumToAlex that not using silicone makes a huge diference to lankness and I find washing at night stops that just washed and dried frizz I get otherwise

NewLeaseofLife · 26/02/2010 15:50

I wash my hair every day. It doesnt work otherwise. It even looks bad if I put it up. I think its because its quite wirey. I have to condition too otherwise the knots are terrible.

katsarooney · 26/02/2010 15:59

every second day too! A good way to get away from the kids I feel....is 3 hours too long to stay in the shower?!!!!

Granny23 · 26/02/2010 16:02

NP My hair is very thick, had it very long for years but currently a chin length bob. I second Lovecat's comment that bleached hair is less likely to be greasy. To WhoamI - I do think this is an important topic, when millions of women are being co-erced by peer pressure and advertising into over washing their hair. Thus wasting time and resources and causing personal angst as they worry about their allegedly smelly, thin, lank, greasy hair.

NormaSknockers · 26/02/2010 16:06

Every other day as I'm a grease monkey but I should do it every day as it's so manky the next day

Remotew · 26/02/2010 16:07

Every other day. Mine looks OK the second day.

solo · 26/02/2010 16:07

Mine is medium and I only wash it weekly regardless of it's length. It has been short, medium and long in the last 3 years and it is curly, though it's only just getting it's curl back after having Dd(it goes straight after having babies and returns after about 2 to 3 years to curls). It used to be fine, but is thicker now than ever before!

orienteerer · 26/02/2010 16:08

Every day, it's very fine and looks awful if not blow dried, also greasy if left for a 2nd day.

PDR · 26/02/2010 16:17

Every morning.

I sometimes "give it a rest" at the weekend but I don't leave the house and put it in a pony-tail.

I use a very mild shampoo though and only a tiny amount!

Very of washing once a week!

nappyaddict · 26/02/2010 16:21

I was just wondering because tt seems that the people that can get away with once a week either have curly or thick hair.

bandgeek · 26/02/2010 16:24

Once a week.

I wash my fringe every day though.

Granny23 · 26/02/2010 16:24

NA - maybe we have thick hair BECAUSE we are not always washing, blowdrying and generally tormenting our hair.

PDR · 26/02/2010 16:25

My hair is fine but lots of it, medium length and straight.

I agree that my friends with curly hair do not need to wash as often as their hair is very dry.

DS has mixed-race curly hair and I can only wash it once a week max as soooo dry it "snaps"!

solo · 26/02/2010 16:42

Agree with Granny!
Too often, my niece washes, colours, straightens and completely ruins her once beautiful, thick curls and she now sports a very thinning scalp at the grand old age of 14. I no longer envy her locks.

ShirleyL · 26/02/2010 16:42

Wash once or twice a week, have very fine hair and a dry scalp, my sister has to wash hers every day as it gets so greasy, hers is very thick

nappyaddict · 26/02/2010 16:43

That makes sense for solo because she says hers used to be fine but is now thick, but has yours always been thick?

cyb · 26/02/2010 16:43

I sometimes only wash my fringe

dexter73 · 26/02/2010 16:47

If I'm feeling lazy I wet my hands and run it through my hair just to 'refresh' the curls.

HalfTermHero · 26/02/2010 16:48

That Batiste for brunette hair is fucking magic. I now only wash hair every other day. It is reasonably priced too when you consider all the real shampoo and conditioner it saves you having to use!

solo · 26/02/2010 16:48

My hair is not dry.
My Dd who also has mixed race curly hair, but it is soft like European curls has a slight dryness to the ends and it is much coarser than mine gets washed and conditioned and combed once a week.
I only run my fingers through my hair when it is curly too. If it is scarecrowish, I damp my hands first. When it is straight(after babies), I comb or brush it daily. It doesn't alter the number of times a week I wash it though.

nappyaddict · 26/02/2010 16:57

Does it go completely straight after babies? That's weird (in a nice way lol) just never heard of it before.

PDR · 26/02/2010 16:58

solo can you pls tell me what products you use on your DD's hair?

Parmageddon · 26/02/2010 17:18

About once a week. When younger, it used to be about every 4 days, but it seems to take longer now to begin to go a bit greasy.

My hair is quite thick and dry. It must be a real pain having to wash every single day. I agree with Granny23 and someone else that maybe it's the products themselves that are making the hair greasy in some cases.

Parmageddon · 26/02/2010 17:20

Wash your hair that is! I do shower daily .

nappyaddict · 26/02/2010 17:55

Does anyone go longer than 7 days? I go 7 days at the moment but would love to go a bit longer (purely because I would rather wash it on a Thursday which is more convenient than a Tuesday!)
