I agree cider, I am a pear and am pretty much guaranteed to find something that actually flatters in WS

janeite · 14/02/2010 19:37

People are always recommending Uniqlo knitwear on here - but on the couple of times I've looked, it's all been handwash only. And the dresses are generally very strangely shaped.

ForestFire · 14/02/2010 19:38

and shit qualitay

Takver · 14/02/2010 19:39

Hmm, it didn't look that unfathomable. Mind you my clothes buying rarely goes further than here for work or ebay for other bits & pieces.

Takver · 14/02/2010 19:41

Is uniqlo quality dodgy? It did look worryingly cheap. . .

MaryAnnSingleton · 14/02/2010 19:44

Muji is,or was good

CiderIUpAndSetIFree · 14/02/2010 19:48

justallovertheplace - aha that supports my theory!

Anywhere that does non-hideous clothes that suit the pear-shaped lady should be on to a winner really, given that the pear is supposed to be the British national shape and all. I just need to get Top Shop et al to realise that size 16 pear is where it's at and my sartorial worries would be over.

The Uniqlo website is really shit - if you look at a jumper you can only see one shoulder of it Clothes do look nice but haven't ever ordered anything so don't know about quality.

MarthaFarquhar · 14/02/2010 19:49

Uniqlo denim is ACE especially for pears
very generous o'thigh

all my uniqlo knitwear has shrunk
but I am a shiteola laundrymaid so not sure if this is me or them TBH

Takver · 14/02/2010 19:58

If it helps, Cider, its equally hard to find casual clothes that are the right proportion if you're small (short plus small build). The oversized 'I'm wearing my boyfriend's clothes' look is ok when you're 20, but not so great at 40

janeite · 14/02/2010 20:05

Exactly Takver. I am not a midget (whatever certain people on other threads may think! ) but at 5'2 and a size 10-12 (but with big norks) I find clothes buying a nightmare.

Cyb · 14/02/2010 20:06

I rate uniqlo quality. I ahve bought a lovely long shirt, a long cardi anda fab long sleeved tee recently.

I can't get their bottoms anywhere near me, unfortunately. But my bum's about as far from a pert Japanese size 6 as you can get....

Takver · 14/02/2010 20:11

at the thought of a midget Janeite - I'm 5' 2" if I'm feeling optimistic & have just got up . . . No norks, neither.

SlummyMummy85 · 14/02/2010 20:27

Janeite

I tend to shop at:

Primark (cant go wrong with a bit of Pradamark!)
Matalan
Red Herring at House of Fraser

I tend to vear more towards Matalan though. Too many people walking about with Primark especially in Glasgow!

SlummyMummy85 · 14/02/2010 20:30

Had never heard of Whitestuff til I came on here. At first I thought you were all talking about The White Company.

P.s Quite like George @ Asda too.

janeite · 14/02/2010 21:05

Thanks Slummy. I don't 'do' Primark though. Have a couple of (v old) bits from Red Herring but think I'm getting a bit old for it now - and it's all v bright!

poshsinglemum · 14/02/2010 22:44

We have a Mistral store in our town.
Some of the stuff is lovely and it's all good quality. It can be a bit middle aged but then unless you shop in top shop many places are.

I'm 32 and confused about my style and what's too young/old.

poshsinglemum · 14/02/2010 22:45

Mistral aint cheap either.

EdgarAllenSnow · 15/02/2010 08:38

wel, at £39 for a fairisle jumper, they compare very well with the competition, (especially as was a wool knit rather than a cotton knit....the latter being about £47 in white stuff)

i shall be seeking it out on ebay though...
