i looked at it. it all looks really bland and shapeless. For different reasons, also (as well as boden) not suitable for petite women.

legalwannabe · 13/02/2010 17:49

janeite - I shop mostly in:

Hobbs (work suits)
Banana Republic (trench coat and the odd shirt)
M&S (basics)
Timberland (for outdoorsy jumper and boots)
Massimo Dutti (every european - luurrve this shop)
Phase 8 (always do a good wrap dress)
Coast (cocktail dresses)
LK Bennett (day dresses, cropped cardis and shoes)

janeite · 13/02/2010 18:10

Thanks. I have one item from Hobbs now. Most of it is rather too long (and expensive) for me. I get bits in M&S. Never seen anything I like in Phase Eight or LK Bennet - again, most of it is too long (and expensive) for me!

CiderIUpAndSetIFree · 13/02/2010 18:11

Noddy - you are quite right about the jeggings false sense of security, and I am NOT ready to be yanked out of it yet

Frankie - yes that's the trouble, all my new(er) longer tops look shit with jeans due to the gut/fly/belt alien-stylee protrusion underneath

noddyholder · 13/02/2010 18:13

I always wear a belt You are over thinking it!No one will even notice unless the belt is huge.Jeggings make you fat

noddyholder · 13/02/2010 18:15

it looks fine

Quattrocento · 13/02/2010 18:16

I don't know really where I shop. I don't shop very much tbh. I have stuff that goes back years ... If I wanted something new I would head off to

Whistles
Hobbs
Agnes b
Bit of boden (not much, bit too self consciously crayzee-laydee)
Monsoon
John Lewis

noddyholder · 13/02/2010 18:19

I love agnes b had forgotten about it for years Off to look Thanks

CiderIUpAndSetIFree · 13/02/2010 18:23

Noddy - those women have CONCAVE guts - you could stick a WMD under their jumpers and it wouldn't show!

noddyholder · 13/02/2010 18:32

Well maybe everyone is secretly sniggering at me and my sticky out belt but I doubt it We are talking fashion here not politics

CiderIUpAndSetIFree · 13/02/2010 18:41

Noddy, seriously I bet you and your belt look great. Your gut is probably a LOT tidier than my post-xmas post-jeggings size 16-er!

TheHappyCat · 13/02/2010 20:29

Comptoir des Cotonniers
Aubin & Wills
Reiss.
Jigsaw is OK for the odd thing, particularly for work.

OurLadyOfPerpetualSupper · 13/02/2010 22:13

I sometimes find things in Kookai - in fact, I've just had a mini-spree online. I find their cotton trousers fit quite well and are good quality.

KeithTalent · 13/02/2010 22:45

Oh god not Aubin & Wills

OurLadyOfPerpetualSupper · 13/02/2010 23:38

Like your name Keith.

EdgarAllenSnow · 14/02/2010 18:09

ooh i rather liked www.mistral-online.com/ which seemed to have nicer knitwear in brighter colours than White Stuff.

TeflonMum · 14/02/2010 18:27

White Stuff throws up the odd gem, but mainly it's just too tunic-ey for me.

EdgarAllenSnow · 14/02/2010 18:33

and although there some very lovely items in Jigsaw and Kew - £65-85 is way too much for a top for everyday wear. can't find those things i liked online though...

MaryAnnSingleton · 14/02/2010 18:35

White Stuff has great trousers/jeans and really nice men's shirts..I have lots of White Stuff -it suits me and I'm ancient so there

missorinoco · 14/02/2010 18:42

I like White Stuff too. It has good casual wear. Not tried any of the smarter stuff there.

Am moderately ancient I guess.

dexter73 · 14/02/2010 19:11

My friend and I go to Aubin & Wills to have a snigger at the clothes! Some of the stuff is very strange and hugely expensive.

justallovertheplace · 14/02/2010 19:19

Ooo, I got a mistral skirt from Oxfam and had never heard of them. I like the website though

CiderIUpAndSetIFree · 14/02/2010 19:27

That Mistral site is interesting, they do seem to be modelling themselves on White Stuff (or possibly vice versa, don't know which came first)

Have just had a thought re White Stuff, they are one of the few shops that are truly Pear Shape Friendly, maybe that's part of their success - as lots of places really aren't.

Takver · 14/02/2010 19:28

Do any of you like Uniqlo - it was recommended on another thread, & looks pretty good - was hoping they would come up small being a Japanese brand.

I think proper parties are much easier than nice-but-casual, anyway. Somehow I always seem to have loads of full on dressed up clothes but something respectable to go to the pub is harder.

ShirleyKnott · 14/02/2010 19:29

i find the Uniqlo store unfathomable
